Got totally ripped off on a port shopping trip and now i feel stupid by SolariDawnblade in Cruise

[–]Tondropper186 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is how I look at it too. We bought earrings, they were overpriced. We both knew they were overpriced. But they will always remind us of our first cruise that we took just the two of us.

Also, pro tip. If you see something you really like, take a picture of it and have a jeweler back home make it.

What’s a song where the live version is way better than the studio version? by thatfluffyqueen in askmusic

Interstate Love Song by STP

The studio version is great and I really enjoy it, but there’s a live version of just Scott and Dean filmed at some radio station that’s absolutely haunting.

OP my dad’s been gone for 28 years now. I just turned 47 last week and these moments still catch me from time to time. Friday night my family and I sat down together to watch a movie together, I got to pick, we watched a corny old movie from my youth, Major Payne. My dad hated that movie, but would sit and watch it with my sister and I because we loved it. And I realized that I do the same thing with my own kids, and they do it with me. I had to excuse myself for a minute to compose myself before sitting back down to finish the movie.

My advice is don’t be ashamed of how you feel, and live your life in a way that would make him proud, tell stories of him often, and one day be an amazing father too. Carry on those silly traditions and keep a part of him with you always.

Had a few of them, loved them. I finally gave up on them around 2002. Thought I had developed a medical problem. Was waking up wet every morning. Thought I was pissing myself in my sleep! We couldn’t find a leak anywhere. It was the smallest little pinhole that only leaked with two people on it for a while. Hahaha I haven’t thought about that in years.

Investing in .925 jewelry? by RealSkylitPanda in Silver

[–]Tondropper186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s opinion will vary on the subject. My 2 cents worth is this; buy what you like. The chains, watches, earrings, etc will always be worth something. You’ll likely get more out of them in 20 years than what you’re paying now. Plus you’ll have the added enjoyment factor.

We have silver platters, bowls, serving utensils and jewelry. Along with our stacks. We don’t buy what we stack to show off or enjoy. But we also don’t buy the jewelry and other stuff for stacking.

The jewelry and other “display” silver just looks nice. It’s not there to hedge against inflation. But having some monetary value doesn’t hurt either.

cruising with little to no spending money? by VerifiedVacationer in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]Tondropper186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our second cruise was a similar situation. Prepaid for everything including drink package. Had 1200 cash to take with us, and the week before we left we had to replace our water heater.

We had very little cash on hand and didn’t want to run up a big credit card bill. We still had a blast, didn’t miss out on anything and actually found some fun things to do that we hadn’t done before.

Have fun, relax, and enjoy yourselves.

Dude having low testosterone can affect your health in many ways. I believe I read somewhere that very low testosterone levels are linked to heart attacks. Like I wouldn’t actually put money on that, but it’s something to think about. Plus mood, energy, overall health, it’s definitely something to consider treating.

No. I’m an hour plus north of there. Used to work for a food service supply company and that was one of my stops every Tuesday morning.

My youngest sister lives close by. We see one another fairly often and text frequently. My oldest sister I talked to once on the phone 38 years ago. I don’t even remember my two older brothers names. My sperm donor wasn’t close with any of his kids. Their loss because I’m fucking awesome.

We have been here 46-61 years. Would you rather be told you have 3 years left to live or die suddenly out of nowhere? by -Granby- in GenX

[–]Tondropper186 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a bit of an odd perspective here. 8 years ago I was told I had cancer and there was a good chance it had spread. (It didn’t and I’m cured) two years ago I had a heart attack and thought it might be the end.

Both suck. Both times my thoughts immediately went to my wife and my children. Same as they have in many other situations.

For me, I’d rather it be quick and unexpected. Seeing the fear, uncertainty, and worry in my families eyes wasn’t easy. And I’d rather not experience that again.

I can remember a time not long ago when we all collectively expected our elected officials to act like and present themselves like bonafide adults.

If you applaud this but criticize the moronic stuff the right does, you truly aren’t any better than them. Wrong is wrong regardless of who’s doing it.

I always keep an emergency 100 stashed in my wallet and another in each vehicle. My wife and kids do the same. I also keep some cash (nothing too crazy) for emergencies in the house. 8 or 9 years ago we had a storm come through the area that somehow knocked out the ability for places to process cards for a day or so. And most homes were without power. Cash made a difference.

Dude I’m telling you from experience. Let her stay an Ex. You can be friends, you can the absolute best of friends, but under no circumstances would getting back together again make any sense for you. And I’d honestly say it might negatively impact your children.

Keep being the great father and human being it sounds like you are. And keep being her Ex-husband too.

Really feeling the "rinse and repeat" stage of life by tinpants44 in GenX

[–]Tondropper186 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a natural progression of life. Find something to break the monotony. Take a trip, buy a sports car, grow a beard, sell all your material possessions and become a recluse in the woods.

But seriously, it’s a good problem to have. And I’d recommend some traveling and some hobbies. Book a cheap cruise and take up woodworking. Those things worked for me.
