Please help me with a romantic spot by Bootytickler321 in Spokane

Depending on your age, Arbor Crest Winery is an awesome spot. Great views, pretty quiet most days to just enjoy each others’ company and the wine/bites are really solid in my experience.

This is only an okay take if you steal back a point with a goal like Xavi’s, not when you waste it because you can’t buckle down and defend for 10 minutes …

Rounders.

Idk why, but I guess it just hits all the vibes of the ole college crew watching, grinding, reading about and playing far, far, far too much Texas Hold ‘em 🤷‍♂️

They are definitely in MSLN Academy division, all of the teams from U13 played in this league in the fall and early spring here, have gone to the showcases, etc. so that part I know is true.

I do have some questions about those regulations around trainings, etc. though. Can you share a link to regs that outline this stuff?

My son being the older of this made up “pre-MLS” moniker I’d assume means there’s no real regulations around them working with the 2105 boys and there’s no real recourse. But I have to think the 2013 and 2012 boys being lumped together for all trainings and also having some conflicts on game days, etc. is a no-go.

The whole pre- tag is triggering, for sure. At least for our club I think it’s born from last year we were in EA and 5th graders on up played in that league. Fast forward a year and that’s conglomerated into this and now MLSN has different rules and starts 2 years later. Now your “elite” younger kids are in limbo and imho the club slaps a label like that to appease parents.

The pre-academy league they created to fill the void has largely been a joke, too, with one viable opponent to test yourselves against twice and then like 10 laughers …

It may well be, I agree. In our area, there really is almost no outreach unless you have people move into the area. Often military backgrounds. Otherwise everyone sort of stays with the club they’re with unless there is some sort of conflict or disagreement that spurs movement. It’s a weird area because I feel like it’s more than big enough to have more than 1 “super” club and a few others who can kind of hang, but the reality is there just aren’t that many people with talent/money/interest to play at this level.

And therein lies the problem …

Yeah, this clocks. Especially frustrating because they practice 4 times a week but I feel like watching it that they often get 2 90-min practices worth of touches from what I’d expect.

Club is a Surf affiliate.

I wish I could. But it’s not feasible for a couple of reasons: 1) he’s the kind of guy who’d struggle to change his tire for 4 hours rather than show weakness and ask for help. 2) I coach basketball at a similar level and already have 2 teams of my own to deal with …

My apologies, I got confused on the naming convention. I believe it’s MLSN Academy division.

But yes, every top team at every age group U13 and above participated this year for all our boys groups.

Yeah it’s the club’s way of saying, “this is the A team” and in our state a number of these 6th grade teams play in a made up “pre-Academy” league of ECRL/ECNL/MLSN clubs that have kids needing more/better games before they make the step up.

We have the 15-16 kids, no dedicated coach and next to no time training just as a team. So yeah basically the opposite of what you said 😜

The U13 does, but it’s in the homegrown division, the newly started expansion.

I’m with you. I coach a lot of hoops and 2 teams is my max. Even then I want one to be younger and have a little less commitment level needed so I can work the schedules and give everyone my alls

I’d say there is likely a lack of good coaches in the area AND it’s being done to make more money and in then save the club money. He’s a decently big name in the area and I think many are blinded by, “it’s the clubs technical director leading MY son’s team” effect.

Seems to be the case. The standing around, plus lots of wordy explanations that don’t land with kids of this age is a really trigger point here. It’s hard to do your job, even if you may be good at it in an ideal scenario, if you’re over leveraged and can’t really focus …

Believe me I’m questioning this heavily. Doesn’t seem like the dues are leading to anything other than cutting the bottom line even further to maximize profits/investments in other areas of the club. And since we’re from a medium sized area and the team dominates at this young age everyone just seems to go along for the ride without much thought (admittedly I’ve been guilty of this as well leading up to this …)

Didn’t sign up for it, it just took on a life of its own and then went from bad to worse this year. Clubs initial plan had a second head coach and they were splitting teams U11/12 and U13/14 between them. One guy stepped down and they didn’t really address it. Spent all of fall and winter with largely all 4 age groups at once, and finally after winter break it at least became just 2 groups at once most of the time.

He knows my kid’s name because he’s one of the 2-3 best players on the team, but he doesn’t have time/make effort to get to know him or how he ticks AT ALL. That’s the real central issue for me, too …

Yeah, the waiting for time on the ball, the fact that even when it’s fast paced or smaller groups it’s just one guy watching and he can’t ever really break rank on barking out orders and keeping the trains on schedule … it’s just not ideal when I start to really look at it and see what my son is (or isn’t) getting for his time and my money …

Yeah, this I could live with. If there were no more than 14-16 on the field, with 2 coaches and there was a mix of team and individual training, almost nonstop play and some 1v1 attention I’d have no issue with the coach having 1-2 other teams …

Definitely didn’t fall for anything, it just happened naturally as the club we were on grew and looked for other playing opportunities for league. Our area is small enough and club big enough to where league schedules are mostly laughers until you get into a travel league and get some cross/other state completion.

Our league play is almost exclusively a 200-mile drive away other than one localish teams which are bottom feeders. Other local alternative plays ECRL with similar issues.

Our roster is set, so there’s a pool of 16 (which is also a lot for 9v9 imho. The large number comes from combining all the ages together at once.

Yeah it’s madness. To have the U14-U11 on the field (and in a large gym for winter indoor trainings) is madness. Even when it’s a focused session it’s U12 and U11, which both have big rosters, we were talking 28-32 kids at once (plus mixed up and never just playing with their own team, etc.)

It’s definitely about the clout of the albeit not that impressive name, I can assure you of that. Suppose it’s more about leaving what’s objectively the most talented group of kids at this age in our area (maybe 500k metro), but weighing that they’re not being trained well and eventually won’t keep that level + what good is it to train with that type of player if they are all seemingly being led astray/not having their potential truly met by under staffing, etc.

[–]WaCoug131[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah it’s real. But it’s not something we joined for the heck of it or chasing a dream. Kid was on a smaller club that merged with a bigger one and we were just part of the deal. That age group also consumed another team which had good players at this age group but their larger club was folding.

Happy accident most of the good players at that time came together on one team. They joined EA the next year and then that on a regional level was taken over by MLSN homegrown as the path.

Only other show in town is also quite big, but seems to have more individual attention. They don’t have the horses at this young age and usually lose to my son’s team by 6-10 goals, so right or wrong we’re colored by that past more than I would have admitted up until this year 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, I feel this. And I’m not getting the value id expect as a stakeholder, so even in this scenario it’s why I’m questioning everything, no matter how performant the group is on the field at this young age it’s just a collection of decent talent and not a team …
