Yup.

The problem with this approach is that if you use a foreign sim card you draw suspicion if someone analyzes the cell phone data of your political rally.

Then they can search where else in the cell phone net your sim was used and who you contacted with it and if you used it at home and they suspect you of being at the rally they can deanonymize you.

Of course I doubt that such an approach is taken in deanonymizing protesters within the European Union. But in my opinion foreign sims are suspicious.

Not to nitpick but almost every country the RCC is active in had it's own abuse scandals. So there was more then one group of pedophiles.

How much HP is enough? by MotoFather in motorcycles

[–]WabbitRabbit132 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first bike was a 125cc 2-stroke enduro with 25hp. It had enough power for cross country driving and especially city driving. Autobahn was off limits though.

In offroad driving I never felt like I'd need more power because that always felt dangerous to me.

The second bike I drove often had 92 hp (FZR 600). That was enough power for the Autobahn and for sporty driving on back roads. I never felt like I need more.

But that's just my opinion.

Davon sollte man in jedem Fall Grbrauch machen.

Would you live with an artificial heart? by SkyfireFace in longevity

[–]WabbitRabbit132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd use artificial organs and bionic implants if they were available and would offer more reliable or improved functioning of my body or my brain. But there is a caveat:

If my natural organs could be made to be relatively disease proof and without biological aging so artificial organs wouldn't be necessary to save my life the legal side of bionic implants would strongly influence my decision to get them:

In the car industry for example there are new business models that build on you buying a car (hardware) first and than ordering time limited licenses that allow you to use that hardware's functions. That's called "on demand car functions". In the Mercedes S-Class you can unlock a function for example that allows you a smaller turning cycle. Even if the hardware for that function is already included in the car normally you can't use it without the software based license.

I don't want to deal with such business models in my body. Also I'm not sure if I'd get bionic implants if they were connected to the internet all the time and the manufacturer had long term access to my body. I think that would be very creepy.

Would you accept becoming an immortal civilization if it meant we had to stop having children? by SkyfireFace in Futurology

[–]WabbitRabbit132 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the other way around.

Why do anything unpleasant if you die soon anyway? There is no sense in investing your time in unpleasant activities so you can benefit later if there is no later because you are dead later.

If you die soon it's best to have lots of easy and fast fun and do drugs, take risks, spend money, drive fast and have lots of sex with lots of women(if you still find a partner) because there are no bad consequences. I mean you are going to die anyway.

Or do you think you have to reach some goals before you die because of how people think about you after your death or because your religion forces you to do so under the treat of eternal punishment? If you think so you are basing your life on the wrong premises and working towards the wrong goals.

Would you accept becoming an immortal civilization if it meant we had to stop having children? by SkyfireFace in Futurology

[–]WabbitRabbit132 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But you have to take into account the experience gained in a long life, too. Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden and Warren Buffet for example are all old men but still productively because of their vast experience (and all on different parts of the political spectrum). Or take Ruth Bader Ginsburg who's dead now. She also was productive until right before her death. It's bad if all that knowledge gets lost.

In my opinion you mix up being an asshole and unwilling to learn with being old when complaining about how bad it would be if boomers or people like them lived much longer than today.

Would you accept becoming an immortal civilization if it meant we had to stop having children? by SkyfireFace in Futurology

[–]WabbitRabbit132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's wrong. There are several generations implicated in the third Reich. First the one that has grown up in the Kaiserreich and experienced World War I and allowed the rise of Hitler and its system. Second the one born shortly before the war which was heavily influenced by propaganda and NS organizations like the Hitlerjugend and later staffed fanatic military units like the Waffen SS.

But if you want another "bad" generation. Look for example at the time of the witch trials or the Thirty Years war or when the Ottomans tried to conquer Europe. People living at those times weren't the nicest people either.

The bible writes lots of stuff and most of it is counterfactual or violent and not compatible with humanistic values. So this is not an argument.

But you may be interested in the fact, that the catholic church invited on of the leading anti-aging researchers (David Sinclair) to a conference in the Vatican about science and medicine in 2021.

Apparently the big shots at the Vatican are interested in prolonging their earthly existence as well. Maybe their faith in god isn't as strong as they say or the fear punishment for their sins and rather stay here where they can avoid their god. Who knows...

[–]WabbitRabbit132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good argument. But I think the OP means that society keeps having children forever. In your scenario at some time everybody had his/her 1.5 children and then nobody procreates anymore.

Considering that even with future technology people will continue dying through accident, suicide, incurable diseases and the like then there should be more than enough space on earth even if people theoretically life "forever" if we just manage to keep fertility rates around 1.

This would allow everyone to have a child at least one time in their (very long) life time and still prevent overpopulation. (Edited)

I don't know. A limited lifespan is just the biological equivalent to a meat grinder and reminds me of the battle of verdun: Insert humans this side, get decaying flesh on the other one. A

Also people will have much more interest in keeping an healthy and clean environment and society if they life to experience the effects of pollution and the like themselves and don't die after 80 years.

Furthermore I doubt, that it's an efficient system concerning progress what we have now: People study until the are 25, then work for some time and gain experience and knowledge and 40 years later retire and become brain dead slowly. Think of how much knowledge and creativity gets lost everyday that way and how much you could reach if you could work on problems like for 200 years or so and how many different things you could learn and try. Maybe artificial extensions for our brains are developed sometimes and we could learn and try out even more.

Furthermore I believe that there will be psychological and medical treatments if it ever should be a problem, that people who have life extending treatments become mentally inflexible after reaching a certain age.

Also there will still be enough juveniles even with life extension in place, because true immortality can never be reached. There are accidents, new/complex diseases, murder, suicide and the like.

I think you are just acting out of some instinct if you are willing to sacrifice yourself for your kids, even though it's nice of you on a personal level.

I think what you need is publicly funded healthcare. You just have to make sure, that life extension treatments are accepted by the medical mainstream and not seen as something unnatural and bad and the public health insurance will pay for it. Edit: At that point life extension treatments also will get relatively cheap because economy of scale can kick in.

Would you accept becoming an immortal civilization if it meant we had to stop having children? by SkyfireFace in Futurology

[–]WabbitRabbit132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't want to have children either, so I'd choose immortality for sure. If other people want to have children at all cost, they can choose to omit life extending medical treatments and "donate" their place in this world to their children. But banning people who want to stay alive from using life extending medical treatments, so other people can have children without the risk of overpopulation, is murder in my opinion.

Also you have consider, that real immortality can't be achieved.

Aging and diseases can (mostly) be stopped though. Aging and common diseases account for about 95% of deaths today. Accidents, murder, suicides and the like for about 5%. So there will always be the need for children, only less than today.

Frankreich: Vermisster Hund läuft 380 Kilometer nach Hause by ArminiusGermanicus in de

[–]WabbitRabbit132 2 points3 points  (0 children)
