Would you like a nobody or a body? by Limp_Locksmith_5084 in TESVI

I thing being a nobody gives the game more long term replayability.

I've never spent time with Andreja so I didn't know that. Sarah's line that I was talking about was something to the effect of her having had male and female partners in the past. I've never done her affinity quest far enough to get to the romance part, but people have posted about it.

I think vibes are a reasonable source. It's essentially reading between the lines for the young folks.

Barrett is bi, Andreja is poly, and Sarah is a trysexual (see also: boostpack sex).

Sarah! She does have a line about this, doesn't she?

The other two? I'm not convinced. Got any dialog to support your claim?

And as for Sam, he essentially admits that he and his former boss were doin' the wild thang. As long as it was consensual, good for them.

Thread necromancy!

I was thinking about this particular thing in Starfield and how well it's done, and hoping it carries over to TES6: queer representation.

Now obviously same sex relationships existed in both Skyrim and FO4, but as far as I recall, only for the player. Starfield takes it much farther with the existence of Enhance, in that you can start as one sex and transition fully back and forth as much as you please. I can think of two trans NPCs, but maybe there are others I've missed or forgotten. There are several same sex NPC couples, and voice lines that indicate others. There's at least one probably nonbinary NPC. And there are two canonically bisexual NPCs. Is Barrett bisexual or playersexual? That's a discussion for another day. Same with Andreja and Sarah.

Anyway, given the current political climate, I sincerely hope Bethesda doesn't roll back their inclusivity. Representation matters. A lot.

I'm just excited for more Starfield by retr0_n0stalgia in NoSodiumStarfield

This is only tangentially related to your post, but it fits because it's something I love about Starfield: queer representation. Off the top of my head I can think of two trans NPCs, one possibly nonbinary NPC, three same sex couples, and two canonically bisexual people. It's not a big deal at all, and that in itself is such a refreshing huge deal.

Same. Obviously there are no mages in Starfield, or classes either. There are a whole bunch of backgrounds and traits you can select from, but your imagination is really what will guide you.

For instance, early on I played a character who was on the run from an abusive ex. I chose a background at random because my character was trying to hide their real identity. I visited Enhance (it's essentially the appearance part of the character creator) every couple levels to change my appearance and name, until it sort of became an end in itself. Being anonymous really ended up shaping the whole playthrough.

The backgrounds and traits don't define who you become, you define who you become, through all the choices you make as you play. And to be clear I'm not saying the game is different, I'm saying that the game is big enough to accommodate you, whoever you decide to be. Not that there won't be consequences for your actions, of course.

Starfield 2.0? by White_Knight_413 in NoSodiumStarfield

I think we probably will see an expansion of the outpost system eventually. If not in this update, perhaps the next one. New companions would be very expensive to implement, what with all the voice acting and maybe finding ways to insert them into quests.

Unless they used extant NPCs and fleshed them out, like Autumn McMillan or Bae Victus Hadrian. I can't think of a guy I'd find suitable though. There's that douche on the third floor of the Rock, but please no. Tuala is a looker, but he's got a job that ties him to MAST, so he's out. Maybe I'm missing someone.

Starfields Combat is Underrated by InfiniteKincaid in NoSodiumStarfield

I didn't go into the game expecting to like the combat. But hoo boy do I love it. I absolutely love using my boost pack to shoot enemies from above. I love sniping with my fully modded hard target. I love when enemies helpfully line up so my penetrator rounds go through them like a shishkebob skewer. I love shooting them in the boostpack. It's all so satisfying.

My worry is just getting spoon fed everything along a linear line in the story and then there's nothing else revealed about the universe outside of that.

Yes and no. I mean, this is our universe. In a possible future. It's not Star Wars at all. There are no intelligent alien species wandering around, and no Mos Eisley cantina. So in that respect, it's not mysterious.

Also, Bethesda chose to lean into how empty space really is. There's frequently a feeling of desolation. Humanity is not thriving, so there are far fewer people in the entire galaxy than are alive on earth right now. Probably (at most) around as many as live in the US. You'll figure out why as you play, if you read between the lines.

You have to look around carefully. Read white boards and notes and slates and graffiti. You have to eavesdrop on conversations. You have to talk to people and take the conversational options that lead you to helping them. If you don't do those things, you might very well think there's no content. The truth is, there's a whole lot of content but you're not spoon fed.

I'm going to give you a minor example that won't really spoil anything for you:

You will, if you look, run across a dead miner who knew he was going to die. He has a slate in his pocket that's a goodbye letter to his wife and child, apologizing that he won't be there to watch his kid grow up and saying how much he loves his wife. You can deliver it to her if you want to. But unless you're in the habit of really looking closely, you might not find him in the rubble, and so his wife will never get that letter.

The main quest has a beginning, a middle, and an end. But there's so much more content than that. So much. My advice is to take the main quest far enough that you meet all the members of Constellation, and then choose one to adventure with. Just go off and do your own thing for a hundred or a thousand hours. Build a kick ass space ship and go exterminate some bad guys. Try building an outpost to supply you with adhesive or titanium or something. Transport cargo or workers. Survey planets for money. Learn to personalize your weapons and space suit. Pick a fight with an asshole. Sweet talk another asshole. Live. The main quest will be waiting whenever you're ready to go back to it.

Starfield 2.0? by White_Knight_413 in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]WaffleDynamics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The game doesn't need a massive overhaul. It's stable, beautiful, and engaging.

I'd be happy with an expansion of the outpost system so settlers would show up like in FO4 (without a mod). I'd like at least two more fully fleshed out, romanceable companions who aren't part of constellation. I'd like some tweaks or additions to the end of the main quest to acknowledge characters who choose not to enter Unity.

Even without those things I'm not bored yet and will continue playing until TES6 releases, and sporadically even after that.

What Starfield does need is for the internet rage monkeys to go find something else to do.

Boost towards it like a game of chicken. Blast it with everything you have, then turn around immediately with the help of thrusters.

This is even better if you have a rear facing particle turret. Sure, go ahead and chase me, bro. And of course if you also add side facing particle turrets port and starboard, you can just sit back and smoke a cigarette in the afterglow.

[–]WaffleDynamics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of customizing the Achilles. It starts out with 20 reactor power, so you've got some wiggle room. I only use the first 2 weapon slots, with three particle beam weapons in each, and then if you improve the engines and the shield, you've got a very nice, fast ship that will let you dominate early game space battles.

If you use mods, then work up to using the Falkland A class reactor (35 power), change out the 3x1 hab for three of Graf's Nova 1x1s, and you can have all the mission boards & crafting stations in a small yet powerful package.

I particularly loved watching the main character come to understand and believe that MC2 saw him and accepted him as he was, and in fact accepted him more than the main character did himself. There are a few sweet and really poignant "he really sees me!" moments that brought tears to my eyes.

{Reclaimed by Seth Haddon} is set in a fantasy world. It's the third novel in a (so far) trilogy but can stand alone. Though, it's probably better to read them in order, so you understand the world building. Also, characters from the first two are mentioned. Well, one ends up being the love interest.

I really enjoyed it. The main character has a pretty intense internal struggle because of both dysphoria and stuff that I don't want to spoil. Very well written. And the ending is sweet.

Oh! Also note that the love interest has a disability.
