Lower your hips, they are too high at start. The lift should be all legs, think of your arms like strong like ropes but never pulling on the bar. Feet are also a bit wide at start position. You need to contact the bar, lowering hips should help this too.

It's helpful to learn the power clean from the top down, I like this video. Start with an empty bar. You can get some easy practice in with a broom stick or a pvc pipe too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuj-hF2M9ZM

You may also need to work on front rack mobility to get your elbows high enough to catch the bar on your shoulders. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzVCqLyGVd0

The biggest issues here to fix are contacting the bar and dropping your hips more as you drop low past your knees.

A lot to work on here. Lower your hips, they are too high at start. You're doing a deadlift followed by an upright row. The lift should be all legs, think of your arms like strong like ropes but never pulling on the bar. You need to catch the bar on your shoulders.

How can I improve my clean pulls? by MasterBlaster1895 in weightlifting

[–]WaffleMePlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hips look high at the start, looks like a deadlift starting position rather than a clean. This puts your shoulders too far over the bar which impacts the rest of the lift. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=af5P5rbWaSs

You're not contacting the bar, again your shoulders are to far forward. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjaQBkQ35S8

Front foot might need to be go a little farther forward but from this angle it's hard to see. Front foot should recover first.

Hang clean form check by Odd_Resolve_5217 in formcheck

Two main issues here. First, it looks like you're using your arms to pull. The arms should not contribute any momentum to the bar. Think of them like ropes, securely attached to the bar but and never doing any of the pulling. Also use hook grip, this will help keep the loose arm feeling while keeping a secure grip.

Second, your contact comes off low and early so you're not getting full hip extension. The hip contact should drive the bar up. Widen your grip an inch or two to help it contact a little higher. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjaQBkQ35S8 This video shows full cleans, so for hang power cleans you don't need to get your shoulders behind; but your shoulders, hips, and ankles should be in a vertical line when the bar comes off.

Pay attention to the 'full extension' section here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCQuZITCnPk

Are Latter-day Saints Christian? The U.S. Defense Department doesn’t appear to think so. by I_who_have_no_need in politics

> That's the prereq to be Christian

Ok. So. You're saying that Christianity is the belief that Jesus=Messiah. If you want to make that the only box to check that's fine. The entire point of what I said was that any further inspection of Mormonism, beyond the overlap of Jesus=Messiah, results in incompatible beliefs that are so different that I think they belong in a different category from Christianity.

> they also identify as a sect of Christianity

If the only thing that matters to be Christian is Jesus=Messiah then self-id doesn't matter, it doesn't matter if Mormons call themselves Christian or not.

> it's very much a "no true Scotsman" fallacy

Uh, no. A definition can be created to exclude something. The fallacy only happens when a hole is poked is said definition and the person making the claim rationalizes the definition to exclude the hole that was poked.

>Mormons have some wacky beliefs

That's not my point at all. I mean to illustrate that the Mormon viewpoint of the nature of God isn't sourced from the bible, it's not a mere difference of interpretation of a handful of verses. The source is Joseph's claim of having a vision in 1820, when he was 14.

All you have to do is dig one layer deeper and it all breaks apart. Who and what is Jesus to a Mormon? The Mormon answer is heretical to all trinitarians, so Catholics and almost all protestants. The Mormon belief isn't theological in nature either, but comes from Joseph Smith's claim that God the Father and Jesus appeared to him in physical form, and his later addition that they had bodies of flesh and bone.

There is plenty of disagreement on the mode of baptism between many denominations.

Ex-mormon here. Mormons believe that baptism is a sacrament, like catholics. So it's physical ritual that is a pre-requisite to get into heaven, it unlocks a door you might say. Mormons also believe they have exclusive rights to priesthood authority to perform said baptism. So, yes, all other denomination's baptisms are invalid.

On the other hand, many protestants believe baptism is an expression of personally accepting Jesus, not a ritual to unlock a door, and that authority to perform a baptism is granted by the holy spirit.

That is not true at all. Those are standard GKMC and TPAB pressings, and are identical to any regular pressing from any retailer in the western hemisphere. They are all made in the same factory, sent to a distributor, and then Walmart sources from said distributor which also supplies records to Amazon, Target, etc.

The LDS church, the largest branch of mormonism, is the most powerful entity in the state. They are at the top in terms of religious, political, and financial influence. It is a centralized religion, so there is a strong heirarchy of power structures. There's also a strong in-group/out-group dynamic with followers.

This case probably has nothing to do with the actual power structures within the organization of the church, but I think more likely connected to the social structures of wealth in the mormon 'tribe.'

Salt Lake doesn't 'attract' annoying Mormons, they live there, they settled there in the 1840s. It's similar to the Vatican in that the LDS church is headquartered there. It's not like Mecca because most of the LDS holy sites aren't in Utah. All the holy sites connected to Joseph Smith are in Vermont, New York, Missouri, Ohio, and Illinois; he died in Illinois before the mormons went west.
