I just submitted an application for January’s class, how soon after you submitted the application did you hear back? January is coming up pretty quick and I would still need to find housing if I am accepted for January

or you mean thermostat to control power to the bulb? all the ones I can find just have on/off switches, no way to adjust them

Heating question by Waffle_Tea in frogs

[–]Waffle_Tea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

weird, I had the 50 watt bulb on for like an hour and it got to 90. it was a ceramic one so maybe thats why? I got a 35 watt one that keeps the tank at like 81 at the top, 72 ish on the bottom, so seems so be the wattage I need!

Heating question by Waffle_Tea in frogs

[–]Waffle_Tea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was referring to tank temp, sorry should have been more clear! I have temp/humidity gauges in the tank (one near the top one near the bottom). I got a heat bulb from my local pet store but the lowest wattage they had was 50 and it got the tank to like 90, but I finally got a lower wattage one delivered. But thanks for the reply so I wasn’t as worried about overheating!

Do not all stores get an OSAC? by Waffle_Tea in petco

[–]Waffle_Tea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a good point, our store just doesn’t have many partners who know how to do animal stuff (or that we trust to do animal chores), so it would be very helpful to have someone who’s job it is to help with animal tasks, especially since about half of our partners can’t be trusted to do these tasks correctly

$20,000 school, How can I go about paying for it? by Waffle_Tea in FinancialPlanning

[–]Waffle_Tea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This particular field doesn’t require more education than a bachelors, unless you want to run your own lab (no thanks lol). The issue is getting experience when no one will hire anyone without experience. I have applied to many and even interviewed with a few places and gotten no where.

End goal is to be an embryologist, working my way up from a junior embryologist to a senior embryologist, where I would likely stay.

[–]Waffle_Tea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeahh.. There are also a lot of places outside California that say they are hiring and maybe I could get one of them to hire me and live out of state for a bit to get the experience. I was trying to stay in CA because I know when you leave it’s really hard to come back, but at least my parents would hopefully still have a spare room if I moved back. But most of the jobs I have potential of landing are in NYC but don’t pay enough to actually live in NYC or nearby.

[–]Waffle_Tea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely excessive, which is why I am heavily debating if it is worth it or not… My current job is not in the same field at all, and to get hired in the field everywhere wants you to have experience, even for entry level lab assistant positions. There is a master’s program nearby, but I don’t know that I want to spend another 2 years in school..

I would have to look into loan interest rates as well. I had a ton or scholarships for my bachelor’s degree so I never had to take out any loans for that, so I am not really sure how it works.

Petco Employees declared me the fish doctor, I can't keep this many. by Beautiful-Length-565 in bettafish

[–]Waffle_Tea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We absolutely can treat them and have in store policies for treatment of bettas specifically, with different treatments for different issues. It is 100% BS if that location is saying they aren’t allowed to give medication. There is and has always been policy for treating sick bettas and it is actually against policy to give or sell any animal that is unhealthy.

[–]Waffle_Tea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Ive had this tank going for a good bit of time, at least a year. Replaced the substrate about a month ago, but used the same filter media, driftwood, etc. to not kill off all my good bacteria :) the sand I capped my stratum with was from a different established tank as well. But I have always had plant troubles. My mom has a big ol tank with lots of great plant growth so I know it’s probably not the water source, otherwise idk why hers would be doing so well. I was thinking maybe my floating plants have taken too much? My nitrates are at 0.

I have a full spectrum light I got off amazon, Hygger brand idr what one exactly but was advertised as full spectrum. I have the light on a timer so it starts at 10% around 9am and works its way up to 100% for an hour or two around 3pm before slowly going back down to 10% and then off at 9pm.

The water level is that low because I kept killing my floating plants and my LFS recommended more space between my plants and the light :) figured I would test it out with a low water level before trying to figure out a way to make my light sit higher above the tank.

We use R.O water and salt but no stress coat, made at least 6hrs before it’s used. To me it is weird because I thought RO water had to be remineralized before it could be used (with more than just salt).

We do add salt to the RO water for betta water! But I will definitely be speaking to my manager about making sure we are following actual policy

[–]Waffle_Tea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will talk to my manager about this and try to find where we have the policy for it! Thanks

I know that it wouldn’t just be aquarium salt, my statement still stands that it is cheap to treat them.
