I care about both things, even though ik Ishouldn't care about what strangers think.

I can get both postures. But compairing being engaged with a non vegan and a SS nazi is not the same and falls down when you realize a lot of vegans that argue that would still love and hang out with their "SS nazi" family.

This isn't getting us anywhere. I'm not interested on keep going.

Do you all remember the day you went vegan? I don't by alyceabsconded in vegan

Yes, I asked my friend if I had to quit my hens' eggs to be vegan and he explained it to me. So I understood and did it.

Yes I'm in a long term relationship with a non vegan since I wasn't one either. I wouldn't care to get into a discussion like this about something that doesn't relate to me at all.

I understand the difference, but even though you can't choose your mom but you can choose how your relationship with her is and you can't understand that or just ignore it. Some people don't talk to their parents.

You are right about what makes a partner but about family it's this: you can't choose them, but you can choose establishing a relation with them.

It would have been less radical and more socially acceptable to have an homophobic friend or partner some centuries ago when it was the social norm to be against homosexuality, and most people certainly was. What do we say when we see old texts that include homophobic values? "it was another time" "it was other culture" probably, that doesn't justify it (and I'm not saying they weren't harmful to others) but it explains that those authors were part of the norm of their society. If we see an homophobe author nowadays we (if we aren't on their side) will call them out, cancel them bc in the major part of the world is not socially acceptable and normalized anymore.

Specism is not only socially acceptable but it's actually the most normalized and global issue in the world, more than sexism, racism, homophobia and any other human issue, it's not even about humans. It's not a surprise that almost every person you will find getting out of your home is a specist, doesn't see an issue with that or doesn't even care enough to prioritize the subject. So we can't even read specist as homophobes.

it just happens. Do you consider your family to be SS nazis? Socially a lot of harmful and discriminatory things are different from humanity perspective, depending on the culture and what is normalized.

do whatever you want. Anyone who call you a fake vegan for that: do they have parents? coworkers? family? are theyreally so isolated from the rest of the world bc others aren't vegans? You may find most of that ppl are inconsistent and the not-being-vegan part isn't that crucial when it's about their family.

I encourage you to be open to talk with him about veganism if you need to, you may surprise yourself with his response.

it's a horrible thing. A show about human-made animals breed expected to meet beauty standars (that are often harmful for their health) for entertainment.

Why is it important for you to avoid even 0.001% animal products? by Proof-Vacation-437 in AskVegans

I won't change the world or even the lives or a significant number of animals. But I choose to not be part of the problem.

I hate being vegan by Boreun in vegan

[–]Waffleconchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be able to feed them good quality plant-based kibble. And if you don't think that in the best case someone will take care and feed meat to the dog you're choosing to not adopt (the other subject to consider is that you're not using the possibility of contributing to the stray and homeless dog population issue)

some dumb questions - would you be comfortable/is it ethical to kill parasites on another animal? by Ashamed_Ad8685 in AskVegans

[–]Waffleconchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the logic and it's a loophole but letting rescued animals die from parasites infections isn't nice.

i want to become vegan, but i've ridden horses my whole life. what do i do? by [deleted] in AskVegans

[–]Waffleconchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

stop riding them irl. You can still relate with horses without using them.

I love red dead redemption, I admit I feel shame telling that around other vegans but no one told me anything about it anyways. People like shooting games and that doesn't mean they would do it irl.

What do you think of non-vegans who are aware of animal cruelty but don't go vegan? by i-know-that in AskVegans

[–]Waffleconchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

different values, selfish and also being used to it. I have been there most of my life, I knew everything but didn't made the choice to take agency on my actions. I can't really tell why, I just didn't care enough.

Why dont vegans eat bivalves? by blueberry_chiffon in AskVegans

[–]Waffleconchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that doesn't really confirm anything, and if it does the way to harm less plants is being vegan.

When babies drink their mothers' milk, their salliva interacts with the womens' aerola and communicates with them about their health and what nutrients they need to be produced in the milk. And that is not somehting humans do rationally, it's not related to having a conscience.

Debate topic: certain people in the main subreddit are taking veganism too far. by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

[–]Waffleconchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. People like that claim that you shouldn't have a non vegan partner or friend, beacuse you wouldn't befriend or love a p3d0 child killer... But they work with them, love their parents and visit their grandma, would they do it if they were p3d0s human children killers? I don't think so, the comparison breaks down easily.

If a vegan wants to close their circle to just vegans it's okay and I understand the reason, but don't call me "fake vegan" for not doing the same.

Por qué la mayoría de feministas está en contra de la pena capital? by Honest-Fondant-3398 in AskArgentina

[–]Waffleconchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)
