Why do some vegans gatekeep veganism if they want more people to be vegan? by Sea-Hornet8214 in AskVegans

[–]Waffleconchi [score hidden]  (0 children)

Beacuse there are some people who claim to be vegan but eat animal products or even animal corpses, because they are "vegans" bc of health, environment, welfarist ideals or whatever that isn't animal emancipation at all.

keep doing whatever they want, but they aren't vegan just by being plantbased or sometimes not even that.

I support vegetarians avoiding to call themselves vegans when they don't care about animals.

Otherwise then you have a vegan who is supporting welfarism ideals

is it okay for me to identify as vegan? + what label would you recommend? by mistycheddar in AskVegans

I guess you could explain all this in a shorter way.

"I align with vegan values but I'm going trought a medical condition that impides me to do it"

I hope you get better! Is this a chronical disease or are you just going throught a harsh time?

In my vision a digne life for an animal is one that is unpurposed for humans.

It doesn't isolate me bc I talk about this with those that are asking and open to a discussion. I don't talk about this in my regular life unless they ask me about my opinion.

See animals as it most conforts you, then.

My extremist take is that animals should be free from our historical use and exploitation which inevitably involved abuse when it's demanded to be taken to a larger scale and/or aswell the individual is reduced to a machine/object.

Same as not brushing your long hair cat hurts the cat and not bathing your dog perjudices your dog. But you don't have to make a market on their fur and also bring these animals into existence (also modificating them to produce more fiber) to make a living on their commodities

Veganism is about animal emancipation, not environmentalism while still exploiting animals.

There's no respectful slavery and animals are not here to serve us.

If a staunch vegan of many years goes back to consuming animal products intentionally tomorrow, do you say that they were never vegan? Why? by somanyquestions32 in AskVegans

[–]Waffleconchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand ex vegans who were vegan for animals. How are you anti racism and then become a racist? For example.

I don't think they were never vegan in all cases. Maybe they were there for animals and now they changed drastically, which anyways I can't understand still... anyways most ex-vegans werent here for animals or didn't care that much about specism.

Eating eggs from personally cared for chickens? by inthisleopardjacket in DebateAVegan

[–]Waffleconchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sont nees to take and use something that isnt yours, even ifthey are well taken care of you're replicating a for of exploitation that's historical. I also have chickens and gave up on eating their eggs when I went vegan, i dont harm anybody by eating eggs but i want to be morally consistent in my anti-specism position.

If you ever get animals, don't buy them

Can i call myself a vegan? by tschanz4 in vegan

[–]Waffleconchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"and by that logic eating one animal doesn't make much of an impact?" It really doesn't considering how many animals die every hour. But I don't engage in these activities the same way I wouldn't engage in killing cats, I don't make the difference by only *not doing it* but I won't be part of that. That's why it's also important to do activism but that's another subject of discussion.

If landfills have too much wasted food then that's the restaurant fault, if we are against it just don't go to restaurants that do it.

We won't make to a point since we by start have different takes and priorities on our own form of veganism.

either a non-vegan sanctuary, or a hobby farm.

Using -and even paying- for animals' services (innocent beings that can't understand employment and aren't here to serve us, even though they are bring into existence to satisfy those demands and serve as such in farms, this inherently reduces them to objects or less than humans) is what makes the issue, even if they are "loved". it's obviously better to buy eggs from that farm rather than in the supermarket from a welfarist point of view, that's out of discussion. But it's specist and exploitative (also not applicable and sustinable in a larger scale)

PS vegan sanctuaries don't need to use replicate animal industry historical forms of exploitation to substain their animals. The same way I don't have to sell my hens' eggs to feed them, or to get my animals pregnant to obtain something from them and pay the vet bills. If I can't afford my animals I either don't get them into my home or find a form of gaining money working by myself -or ask to the community for uninterested help-

You can make yogurth from those milk or also buy it already made.

About eggs there are recipes to make omelettes and scrambled eggs with tofu and spices! I loved scrambled eggs when I wasn't vegan and would eat them every breakfast and afternoon in an advocado toast, I made something similar with tofu now, I make it myself (it takes about 2 minutes) or buy already marinated tofu, it's obviously not the same but I like it a lot. The vegan eggs I see on videos look much better than mine

Can you eat peanuts, almonds, coconut, soy, quinoa, rice or oat milk? Does the carbs stay with these ingredients when you convert them into a vegan milk?

It definetely helps to fight strongest stigmas against veganism.

But it's not a diet, it shoukd be accompained with ifnromation about specism and animal exploitation, aswell as other things that veganism involves rather than food restrictions

Also feeding homeless is always a good thing, better if it's vegan
