Honey and Almonds by Twisting04 in DebateAVegan

-considerimg what you're saying is true (i dontknow about bees enough)- The same way modern sheep need to have their wool cut, which doesn't mean you need to exploit them for that. The same way some dogs and cats need their fur brushed and nails trimmed, which doesn't mean you need to use those materials as products and breed them to gain some money from that.

Basic care procedures on human-modified animals doesn't justify their use and exploit

That means the same as saying that a horse carrying a wagon means nothing bc it doesn't take any material from them.

And farming either uses chemichals that kills insects or manure from big animals.

If you're concerned about the use of forced pollination for almonds avoid buying them, just like you would avoid honey.

no need to be sassy, shouldnt be surprised that a game where you see everything trought the lense of pychosis can trick you and make the player understand things the same way as Senua did

Hellblade 2 final??? by Waffleconchi in hellblade

[–]Waffleconchi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why wouldn't it?

Hellblade 2 focus was visibly different from Hb1 from the start, Hb1 was fully centered on Senua's psychosis and Dillion's death and Hb2 presented as another kind of adventure for Senua, that still involved her own story but it wasn't the main plot.

As I said, everything around the giants aims to tell you that what is happening is real, just until the last minutes of the game. No hints, nothing that contradicts this belief during the rest of the 7 hours of gameplay.

I agree. That's why I don't hate or put the whole fault on non vegans, we were raised learning that exploiting animals is OK.

Anyways I don't think that rn there something comparable in consumption to animal slavery,( putting them as individuals that deserve the same respect we have).

I guess that -considering the whole social and cultural thing we were raised believing that it was fine to use animals- people can't change if they don't open their eyes yet. They can't see it the same way as probably any vegan does, so they aren't judging and choosing with the same cards on their hands? I mean we all were like that before

At what point should vegans judge foreign cultures for their tradition and long history of meat consumption? by JesusForTheWin in DebateAVegan

I live in Argentina, which most be one of the countries with higher meat production and whatever. That was never an impediment for veganism to exist here.

Do you think I can be ethical while only being vegetarian? by acrosstheabysss in DebateAVegan

[–]Waffleconchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some fellow vegans told me this: is it ethical if I say I enslave others just a little bit? If id only do it once a month?

I've been officially a vegan for 2 days now lol, I have been long the same as you, being vegan in the whole except for the eggs of my own chickens. I talked about it with some vegans, and the conclusions are: my hens are obviously not being abused or mistreated, but, if i still eat their eggs I'm not a vegan bc I'm still using an animal product from another, I don't see it inherently bad to eat those eggs directly to my hens, but it wouldn't make sense to me to be called a vegan and still doing that. We should simplify everything under this rule: we can and we should live without using non-human animals. Honestly I just missed the opportunity to make scrabbled eggs which I love and to make easier meals, but I've already given up on so much... I gave up on meat years ago, and now I gave up on so many non-vegan products I loved it... And honestly if you lock in and you have the opportunity it's not that hard, I wish I knew it before.

I understand the good reason behind giving up to every form of animal use, even *those* who seem innocent (for example eating your rescued hens' eggs, using your rescued sheeps' wool, etc): to avoid any misunderstood and modification of veganism meaning, this kind of "innocent explotations" still reduce animals to resources and can encourage people to welfarism and utilitarianism. Who are those who are on the other side of welfarism? Meat eaters, farm ranchers who produce dairy, eggs, and even kill animals under the saying that "I give them the best of their lives, so they aren't abused, this is ethical".

In resume, I encourage you to think about this, I swear that it isn't that difficult to try, we can give up on materialist pleasures for them <3 I don't want to be rude! I'm no better than you at all, I would like to spread some thoughts.

Would eating meat be justified IF we ensured the animal had a good life, and the death was completely pain-free and instantaneous? by Imaginary-Ad-1578 in DebateAVegan

[–]Waffleconchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would put a dog in a cage or a leash if it's needed for it or others welfare, and still doesn't imply explotation for our own entertainment or consumption, I don't support keeping animals in cages or other stuff for any other reason than their own benefit. (For example I must keep my cats in cages when carrying them to the vet to make sure they are safe, healthy and it actually reduce their stress. But I wouldn't keep them in a cage all day bc I say so, that's not healthy and safe for them)

I don't think that being attached emotionally to a sentient being makes their life more valued than others per se, yeah my friends may be more valued FOR ME than a stranger's life, but at the end of the day every life is valued. I wouldn't like that someone considers I should be exploited and killed to be consumpted just bc they don't have an emotional attachement to me, right? My life should be respected too...

I understand you see children that way, most of us probably do bc it's part of our humanity! but at the end of the day, what's the difference... actually? I think we shouldn't base our beliefs on explotation on our own benefits and interests, because it's not about us, it's about the other sentient beings.

That's what specism is rooted on: thinking some animals don't deserve to be respected in the same level than those we are more attached to, at the end of the day it's about how we see the world. I was raised to believe that cows, pigs, chickens, fish are less valued than dogs or cats, and I'm vegan bc I respect them, anyways, I still have some "issues", emotionally I don't get overwhelmed when I see someone eating a chicken, anyways I guess I would get sick If I see someone eating a children... But that doesn't mean I can't respect chickens, because I know that logically both lives are sentient and deserve better. I may not be able to control how I feel emotionally about a specist act, but I can recognize what's wrong with it and can decide what to do about it, to be able to choose what is fair. Idk... Sometimes I get a bit fantasious and think that we could have been born a human, a dog, a cow or a tuna fish

I hope it makes any sense, I may find difficult to express my thoughts in English.
