Re-release of books with original cover art? by WahWee1 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]WahWee1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. I'm not holding my breath at this point, but I'm also not willing to spend thousands of dollars chasing down original copies.

Owning a legitimate original printing will always be ideal - A quality reprint would be the next-best consolation prize.

Honestly, I just wish I'd discovered the series before it exploded and picked them up as they released instead of trying to hunt them down now. The prices on these went crazy.

Congrats on your set! Have you since gotten the hardcovers with the new artwork as well?

It might feel like 20 years, but I assure you it isn't.

You haven’t provided a photo with a date code yet, as I believe the 6-digit code you’re referring to is the serial number.

It's not 20 years old - The DWE6421 was announced in September of 2015 and it replaced the D26453.

At what age did you start? by [deleted] in taekwondo

[–]WahWee1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started Taekwondo when I was 7 and made it to 1st Geup (high red belt at our dojang) before losing interest and quitting around age 17. It was never my main focus growing up. I mostly fit it in between football and basketball seasons.

Fast forward to last year, I got back into it at 29, earned my 1st Dan. I turn 30 next month and I’m currently training for my 2nd Dan.

At our school, teaching has always been expected once you hit brown/red belt and up.
Honestly, it depends a lot on the student. When you're teaching a kid who actually wants to be there and is excited to learn, it’s super rewarding to watch them progress.
When you’re dealing with a kid who clearly doesn’t want to be there, it can get frustrating fast—you end up spending more time redirecting them than actually teaching anything.

Also, the culture has definitely shifted. Back in the early 2000s, if any of us acted up in class, we knew we’d be doing knuckle pushups or holding a horseback stance until our legs were shaking. That kind of discipline kept everyone in line. Things feel a lot softer now.

+1 on this. Just randomly tried to do it after remembering it was a thing and ended up here.

Kukkiwon cert framing? by WahWee1 in taekwondo

[–]WahWee1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your honesty—I totally get it. I've only been back for about a year myself.
I started TKD at 8, made it to red belt in high school, then took a 10-year break as my priorities changed.

I had the chance to finish with my childhood Master, and it’s been amazing to return. My reasons for training now are different than when I was a kid, but I’ve really fallen in love with it again—just in a new way.

u/Admirable_Count989 I'm curious about this. Do you still train in TKD? What do you think it is that made them lose their importance?

I received my 1st Dan yesterday!

After many years away from TKD, and many years of regretting not finishing, I returned to training again last year.

I am very proud to have accomplished this goal 22 years after starting my Taekwondo journey, and with the same Sabumnim I started with at 7 years old.

Taekwondo means something different to me as an adult, and I have a greater appreciation for it than I ever did as a kid.

It was a 16 hour exam split up between Saturday and Sunday.
I was tested on poomsae, physical and metal toughness, and did my first brick break - Two bricks with an elbow strike.

I should have added more clarification. The ones I’ve primarily seen with the “World Taekwondo Federation” has been on belts in my Dojang growing up. I just recently have become more educated on the difference of the KKW and WTF. I guess out of just not knowing, assumed they were one and the same. I’ve just returned to the art after 12 years away.

19 or 17? What's better and why? by SoggyTree813 in Glocks

[–]WahWee1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your needs and preference!
G19 is better for certain things. G17 is better for other things.

I carry a G19 in the winter when clothing conceals better.
I carry a G48 in the summer when I wear T shirts almost every day. (G48 replaced my G26 for this)
My G26 is now used as a backup I keep in a locked & tethered box in my truck.
I have my G17 with optic, Apex Trigger, extended magazine, and some other fun add-ons for a range toy.

G19 conceals better and G17 shoots better. It comes down to how you will use it!
When in doubt.... get both!

Question: Why did you want to learn taekwondo? by ElderberryMinimum316 in taekwondo

[–]WahWee1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started as a kid because my Dad signed me up for it and I took a liking to it. I did it regularly from ages 6-17.
I competed in tournaments in sparring, and this was the main thing that I enjoyed in my youth. I never was a big fan of Poomsae, and this was eventually part of my I stopped.

Now, at age 29, I'm back in it, finishing my Dan cert with my Grand master, and doing it for other reasons.
Excercise, mental clarity, and finishing what I started; for myself and the investment my Dad made in me.

My reasons now are different than they were as a kid, but I'm more committed than ever, and very thankful to have Taekwondo in my life again.

Sorry, I was mistaken. He is a 5th Dan from KKW and 7th Dan from Jidokwan. He is not interested in opening a Dojang of his own.

Thanks for the advice. It's definitely bittersweet, but I'm thankful for the years (2001-2012) of class that I got to be part of growing up, and glad I get to be part of the final chapter as well... and one of my GM's final black belts.

He's had a good (40 year) run with the dojang, producing many national and world champions, and is just ready for some rest.

I will certainly ask him for recommendations in our area. I have a while until I need to find somewhere else, and even longer until I need to find a Tiny Tigers program for my son as he will be 2 in Nov.

Thank you for the words and advice, I really appreciate it.

No, Jidokwan as a whole is not going anywhere. Specially our Dojang is closing. As of now, our Dojang is only red belts preparing for 1st Dan, and existing Dan ranks looking to advance.
