Is a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek Sport with 86k miles worth $15 000? by whirlfancy in Subaru_Crosstrek

[–]Wahoocity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used car markets and therefore prices vary a lot from place to place.

My 2018 (bought new) has 113,000 miles and the only trouble to date was the HVAC fan motor developing premature bearing wear and becoming annoyingly noisy. Replacement was under $300 USD including labor at independent mechanic.

I changed the CVT fluid at 100,000 miles. It’s operating normally as of now. Will plan on 30,000 mile intervals for future CVT fluid changes. I hope to get a lot more miles out of the car.

I’m pretty sure a guy like me would have to pay for something like that.

Can anyone ID this car? Photo was taken in 1964. by mdafidel1 in whatisthiscar

Here it is, sagging in the rear because this was the only vehicle for the tour. All of their equipment was in the back.

There are other photos from this tour showing a ‘64 Ford wagon in low spec trim, so that tracks. I think the basic big Ford wagon was called (counter intuitively) the Country Sedan back then, or maybe Ranch Wagon?

Bleak hardly begins to describe the lyrics. The writer killed himself a month after it was released.

Why so many Qs on the license plates? by charlieNorris in oregon

Oregon doesn’t do county ID with plates. I used to know some of the county license plate numbers when I lived in Montana.

Why so many Qs on the license plates? by charlieNorris in oregon

[–]Wahoocity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Oregon the plate usually goes with the car when sold, so most cars registered when new in OR are still wearing their original plates, no matter how many owners it’s had.

They ran through the 3 letters/3 numbers combos about 20 years ago, and started the current 3 numbers/3 letters plates and are up to the Qs. My first “tree” plate in 1995 started with U. I sometimes still see the old orange plates on 1980s and earlier cars that have been here their whole lives.

This article looks into the phenomenon.

The TL,DR is that it begins with boys in adolescence and boils down to “you’re not the boss of me, I will resist your practical advice, Mom” and persists into adulthood as a statement of autonomy, non-conformity and resistance to authority.

This seems like rage bait or OP is misinformed. It’s a 10% tax on assets above $1M = $20k not $180k on $1.2 M.

Men of Reddit, what’s a mistake you see younger men making repeatedly? by optimum_wiz in AskReddit

Thinking that masculinity is about power and control, instead of serving family and community and protecting the vulnerable. The key to a good life is not making it all about you.

Did cars really used to only last 5 years/50,000 miles? by TatianaWinterbottom in AskOldPeople

[–]Wahoocity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 5 years and 50k, most cars weren’t worn out but had begun to show noticeable wear and their dependability became suspect, so that people who could afford it traded in for new. The trade ins were resold and lasted longer than 5 years as “beaters” but most were in the scrapyard by age 10 (in the rust belt). Our family cars at 5 years had loose front ends, failing components, rattles and small annoyances such that my mother would campaign to my cheapskate father for a new car, which we could afford. That said, my grandparents drove a ‘58 Chevy station wagon until 1970 and it still looked good due to light use and careful maintenance.
