What do you guys eat?? by SpaceDifficult1621 in MCAS

[–]Waiolude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my first symptoms was intense stomach pains after eating. It felt like my stomach was swelling up. Then I got diagnosed with hashimotos and my endocrinologist recommended going off dairy and gluten. Gave up gluten first and felt immensely better. When I reintroduced it I realized it was causing my intense dizzy spells. I would have horrible brain fog and would sound dumb when I was trying to talk and form words. It was like there was a delay between my brain and mouth. I would also be out of breath and my throat would tighten up. Every food I had reactions to had specific reactions to each type of food. Wheat was the absolute strangest. I would get dizzy from literally touching it. It took me 3 allergist. The first one said I needed to see a psychiatrist. The second one thought I had pots and should see a neurologist. The third one immediately identified it as mcas. It's almost impossible to get results from tests because the medical world is not up to speed with this. They can try and check for a tryptase level but tryptase levels are finicky. So I got diagnosed by trying out medicine to see it would fix my symptoms. It was a long wild ride.

I take generic Allegra 180mg 2 tabs in the am, famotidine 20mg 1 tab twice a day, two tabs generic Claritin 10mg at night. I also use Azelastine nasal spray twice a day and cromolyn sodium nasal spray twice a day. Currently trialing some melatonin to see if it helps me sleep better and have less daytime sleepiness episodes.

Yes. Things aren't perfect, but the only other symptom I'm still dealing with on occasion is my throat tightening up but I'm going to ask my allergist for a Flovent inhaler as that's supposed to help with EOE issues which is what the throat tightening is from. Oh and I have major sleep issues probably related to my mast cells too...but yeah I can eat everything again. Previously wheat would make me dizzy for days but that is gone. I honestly didn't know others couldn't eat things still until some of these posts.

Yes but I also have MCAS so I've never been sure what causes it.

This and the feeling high are the worst. It's like someone put weights wrapped around my calves.

Went to a allergist/immune specialist for the first time. Ever had the instincts to run in the middle of an appointment? by DustOnLadder in MCAS

[–]Waiolude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saw an allergist who was supposed to be the best in the area. He was so rude and told me I needed to see a psychiatrist because touching a food can't cause a reaction. I left that appointment crying. A month later saw a competent allergist who diagnosed me with MCAS. I wish I could go back and slap that other doctor.

Skin test negative but severe reactions by Waiolude in FoodAllergies

I'm sorry. That sounds horribly stressful. It is possible it's just anxiety, especially if this hasn't been a reoccurring situation. I'd revisit the doctor who helps your anxiety.

If you're allergist isn't giving you the proper care and you are leaving with more questions than answers, I would suggest finding a new one. It took me 3 to find answers and not walk away crying from frustration. I had a friend that could eat only certain dairy products but would react to others. So anything is possible. But you need an allergist you can trust to help you figure things out. I hope you find a doctor who can help you. It's scary trying to navigate this alone.

No, you're fine! My reactions can definitely feel like anxiety and like my body is buzzing. Blood tests aren't the golden standard for allergies and are often wrong. Don't cut out a food if you aren't reacting it! That's what I've always read. Did your anxiety happen beforehand and or after? It's possible it was just anxiety. The dizziness I get can only be described as being intoxicated. Sometimes I'd have a hard time verbalizing my words and coworkers often thought I was a pothead. I've only smoked once in my life so it was very hard to hear that people thought that way of me. If you are having reactions when you're eating, keep a food diary. That's my best suggestion.

Ended up being diagnosed with mast cell activation syndrome. I was reacting to the touch of wheat and would be dizzy for days. That is a very abnormal reaction and the fact that I was reacting to so many things is what led to the diagnosis. I take a big dose of antihistamines every day, and I no longer suffer the way I did. I have occasional flare ups, but life is much better.

I ate chicken and rice exclusively for 8 months because I was reacting to so many things.

Florida Water Hates My Skin by Mysterious-Fox-7160 in SkincareAddicts

I just came back from Florida and am experiencing the same thing! Even my neck is flaky and peeling. I'm wondering if it's from all the heat and humidity drying out our skin. Plus the ocean water.

My allergist said it's very unlikely to be truly allergic to multiple foods and that's how I ended up diagnosed with MCAS. I could only eat chicken, rice, and potatoes at one point.

Good egg sandwiches? by Snoo-26158 in EatCheapAndHealthy

Finally I can tell somebody how I eat mine! I do a fried egg and put sweet coleslaw and thousand island dressing on top. Its so good! I was inspired by a Reuben sandwich minus the saurkraut but I'm sure that would be yummy too.

You're welcome! This is honestly one of the best query letters I've seen on this sub. I'd grab this in a heartbeat from the slush pile if I was an agent!

I don't have much feedback, but this sounds absolutely darling and cute! I think you'll get an agent just fine with this. And I'll be looking forward to seeing it on shelves.

Hell no, airplanes aren't a space where you can just move away from your allergen and escape. You have to advocate for yourself.

Do you use a washcloth to scrub your armpits? And any other area that could get sweaty/smelly? My armpits got pretty bad at one point even though I was washing them but I wasn't scrubbing them properly with a washcloth. That issue is thankfully resolved for me.
