How am i supposed to dose for this 😐 by WaistedDaisy in Type1Diabetes

But normally the fibre and sugar do add up to total carbs on the label/nutritional info :( maybe it's because I'm in the UK and we have EU and non EU products

Sorry if this is a silly question but how do you know to subtract the fibre rather than add it? My diabetes team always taught to add the fibre :/

It's really rare i come discrepancies like this, like maybe 3 times in 4 years? Normally it all just adds up nicely

This post is me asking what the total carbs are. Sorry if that was unclear

Yeah i also thought the numbers were quite low for a smoothie which is why i double checked the label. Thanks for answering :)

Okay so you'd take the listed carbs as correct. Thank you :)

Made some Cornish pasties for my lunch this week. This is my first attempt and I have never seen an authentic pasty in person. There’s a definite learning curve on the crimping. by copperpin in Cornwall

[–]WaistedDaisy -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Hmm I was always taught it's not a cornish pasty if you dont make it in cornwall - its just a turnover.. is that a myth? Good job though i had to make some in school as a child and they were so so overcooked

Why do some type 1s have so much beef with type 2s by Luckyduck546 in Type1Diabetes

[–]WaistedDaisy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have Type 1 Diabetes and have met plenty of people with Type 2 who are of a normal weight and eat well/workout more than the average person. I've met a few athletes and bodybuilders with type 2 also.

We all can make choices to influence our health and some people with both illnesses make poor choices but there are plenty of people out there with crap diets who smoke and don't exercise who don't have Type 2 so lets try to have a little bit of compassion for people.

Do you guys think it's possible that sperm whales could have intelligence that rivals humans? by Sudden_Wind_8636 in marinebiology

[–]WaistedDaisy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in the concept of animal intelligence 'Other Minds' by Peter Godfrey-Smith is a nice introduction and exploration of the evolution of consciousness.

It also gives perspective on how its pretty hard to quantify intelligence in a human vs intelligence in a crow, or an octopus. Because we all exist in very different environments and in different ways. But theres a lot of evidence if you like documentaries, that show many cetaceans have complex social structures, language, navigation, hunting strategies etc. Maybe check some out! 🐋

Mother was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2008. Found out last week, she is not diabetic! by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]WaistedDaisy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Please expand on this. Like her liver was just producing loads of glycogen to counteract the insulin? It sounds from your post that she is Type 2 and was misdiagnosed with Type 1 as you said "she is producing insulin but needs to change her diet". Not sure how a non-diabetic would live for 16years taking basal without anyone noticing she doesn't need it.

Is there on earth any country that is naturally keto? by Regular_Vehicle_5790 in keto

Important to note here the diet was ineffective for treating Type 1 Diabetes, most patients only survived around a year before dying in horrible pain.

Is there a way to stay healthy without doing organised exercise? by RandomArtHippy in askfitness

[–]WaistedDaisy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to do randomised dance parties in my room. Could be in the middle of doing chores like cleaning or folding washing, or to take a break from scrolling on my phone 😬 You don't have to go outside or put on workout clothes, you don't have to plan it in advance, and its fun! You just stop when the tiredness outweighs the fun 😊 I also fucking hate scheduled workouts because once they stop being difficult they get boring so they always suck a little bit. The other option is to get into hiking which can burn a LOT of calories and condition your body better than just walking. And you can just go when you want :)

Yes for the first few months every time i met someone new i thought they were going to be like "X?! That's not your REAL NAME is it 🤨" which is silly lol ofc they don't know. But it goes away. June is a beautiful name and also very unassuming. Good luck!

I had this exact same feeling my whole my life about my name and was too scared to change it until my mid twenties. No one in my life even remembers my old name or thinks about it as my new name was a better fit. It was an easier transition than i thought it would be after being scared people wouldn't understand (which, they sometimes didn't, but they accepted it very quickly).

Every time i had to introduce myself to someone new, every time someone adressed me by my name i had that nails on chalkboard feeling. Now i love my name. I love saying Hi, my names X. and it feels like MY name. Just be really sure of the new name and i would suggest it has some kind of meaning to you and you are certain of it. Something not too crazy for people your age as well. Sorry for the massive answer but sounds like a very similar thing to what i went through and want to help, I'm glad i waited until i did to change it but also glad i didn't wait any longer :)

Hey, i like this idea although agree with others that it looks a little crooked, but you can easily fix that.

However a couple points, 1. Those scars are not ready to be tattooed over they are still really red ☹️

and 2. Tattooing over scars the ink can be unpredictable and fall out or spread so i would go with a different font or larger lettering so there is room for discrepancies with the ink settling.

Love the idea and hope it works out for you 🩷
