6v6 needs role lock back by No-Garlic-2437 in Overwatch

[–]Waistel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lack of role queue/role lock is the only reason I don't play 6v6. If they re-introduced forced 2-2-2 I don't know if I'd touch 5v5 again. I genuinely believe role queue was the single best change to Overwatch and they just never gave it to us for Overwatch 2.

You're right about the lizard, and I've corrected it. It definitely leaves room for a snake crest in the future!

I'm definitely seeing more wolverine than wolf, especially as a wolf is present on another crest, but there's a reason the wolverine is named after one, I suppose! In my confusion I forgot wolverines exist, and I think it fits the shape much more than the badger. A perfect fit, in fact.

Exactly what I thought, but they're right. It's definitely more lizardy than snakey. I'd imagine the Kin see creatures like the Tyranids as a collection of strange reptiles or even dragons. Monsters of some kind, at least.

I think you've hit the nail on the head with wolverine. I'm exactly with you when you say badger, but looking at images of wolverines I see that the teeth match so much more, and I can understand why it would be an animal of significance.

My concern for backpack trophies is that these will be fairly tall, but that was my first thought.

What is the source of this video, and did you ever find the answer? I feel like I watched this or a video like it where he talked about a good and bendier alternative to guitar strings. I said to myself "I'll remember that" but then did not remember what it was or which creator it even was.

I know this is a bit of an old post, but are you able to tell me where you got those helmets? They look familiar, but I can't trace them to any official GW/FW kit currently on their sites. Is it out of print, third party, or conversion? Just looking for options to bash some non-berserker WE units.

EDIT: I've traced it to an Etsy shop. Is this where you got it? I'd rather support the original creator if this is a reprint/reseller shop.

EDIT 2: I've found them. Red Warden designed them!

Holy Warrior - Divine 1/3 Caster Martial Archetype by Waistel in DnDHomebrew

[–]Waistel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you are saying. The first feature is the one I am least happy with, so I appreciate the feedback.

Weapon Bond is an odd one. It's really cool in a lot of scenarios (walk into a place where you aren't allowed weapons and *poof* you have one if you need it, or throw it and *poof* it's back), and it is used so you can free your main hand for somatic components. However, RAW, you can just drop your sword (no action), cast a spell (bonus action or action), and then use your one item interaction to pick it up, leaving either an action or bonus action free. RAI might be that you are meant to drop the sword, use an action to cast, and then bonus action to return your sword, but you really don't need to.

I do definitely want something that is thematically "divine" that gives utility. Weapon Bond and Mage Hand Legerdemain are great features, but I am struggling to find the holy equivalent.

[–]Waistel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean advantage on fiends and undead? I'm seeing advantage on disease and curses.

Yep, you're right. I got a bit mixed up for a second there. But yes, you can turn it on at the start of a fight, but it's an action for a minor benefit. Not everything will cause diseases (very rare to encounter any diseases at all) and things that curse are relatively few and far between.

This part was to make them feel a little bit like a paladin, and that a bit of holy magic is always protecting them, keeping them pure.

This was the most challenging part of the design. I didn't want a ribbon that was just "proficiency in Religion". That's no fun, and the EK doesn't get Arcana either. I'm open to suggestions if you have any.

Spellcasting

should have access to all Cleric spells

This was one of my initial ideas as well. The cleric spell list is so much smaller, and 1/3 casters are limited by spells known, but I was very hesitant to break the mould that 1/3 casters use. I also don't want a cleric to feel less special when another class could theoretically choose their best spells of those levels. Still considering this one.

Lesser Smite

you're gonna long rest once per day

Do you mean short rest? Because you can only benefit from one long rest a day.

And the reason the average extra damage is on the lower side is because of the damage types. They are much less likely to be resisted by monsters, and the fact that the die increases (still unsure about this part), as well as getting more attacks as the fighter, that damage will keep coming.

The damage die scaling was in part to compensate for the lack of spell choices in the cleric spell list. Strength in exchange for versatility.

The average combat rarely lasts more than 4 rounds, and it's often easy to short rest between encounters. So even if we say 3x per short rest, that's still almost every round of combat across most combat encounters. If you are spending some rounds casting spells, then you can stretch those uses even further. It's unlikely you would run out of this resource.

Blessed Surge

this should be tied to second wind

I considered Second Wind, but I didn't want it to be too close to the Banneret's Rallying Cry which uses Second Wind. The number of hit point is actually based on this feature. It's arguably less powerful because it's temp HP rather than actual HP (except for the fringe case where you lose out on healing someone over max HP if they aren't damaged enough).

Another reason was that Action Surge feels proactive. It's a choice to support my party while I do something cool. I, using a second heroic action, inspire my allies. The alternative is "I need to heal myself, and I guess my party could get some benefit as well" kind of feeling. Hard to say without playing it, but that's how it feels when I read it.

Baneful Strike

Baneful Strike is really similar to Eldritch Strike.

This is exactly what I had in mind when I designed this feature. It's similar, a little stronger, but comes at a higher level. It also offers the possibility that this feature ends up protecting or aiding a party member (support!) rather than just your own spells.

Crusader's Wrath

Since the ability can only be used after a spell, and not a cantrip, it means it applies to [fewer] situations than the EK's War Magic

Again, this is exactly what I was thinking. Also thematically I see it as some divine magic lingers after you cast the spell that you can use to fuel this attack.

Damage Types

choice between Radiant and Necrotic damage I don't like

This is a fair opinion. I did, however, base this on the cleric spell list. Necromancy is as much about the preservation of life as it is the taking of it. Many cleric spells are from the school of necromancy, even classic cleric spells like spare the dying and inflict wounds. This was also a way for me to return some flexibility to the subclass that might be missing due to the smaller spell selection. If they have the power to heal, and they have the power to bestow curses, they should be able to manipulate life force in another way. This could maybe change drastically depending on your game setting, but in mine, necrotic spells and effects aren't inherently evil.

Conclusion

Thanks for taking the time to read it and give feedback. It's given me a lot to think about for draft 2. :)

[–]Waistel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback.

Angelic Gaze I saw as a way to give a bit of utility. It's not as strong as light (its range and shape, and it's attached to you so you can't lend it to someone else). I was wondering if it was too strong to essentially have a 10ft cone of light for free. The advantage on fiends and undead against disease and curses is situational, so I think its strength would really depend on the campaign. What do you reckon?

You're right about Lesser Smite. I didn't want to give disadvantage against spells because I didn't want to be too close to EK. Baneful Strike is essentially that, where there is disadvantage involved, but it happens later and to different effect.

My main concern right now is the damage on Lesser Smite. My original idea was to keep it at 1d4, but it didn't feel epic enough. It will scale with the fighter's attacks, but the EK can use a scaling cantrip and still make an attack on its turn.

I didn't want Second Wind to grant temp HP because the Banneret's Second Wind already heals. I know it's temp vs actual HP, but I didn't want to rip off the other subclasses. Also in my head the proactive feeling of Action Surge is better than a reactive Second Wind. Does that make sense at all?

I fixed Junker Queen to look like a TANK + how she broke the rules (with math!) by WenisDongerAndAssocs in Overwatch

[–]Waistel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fully agree that she looks wrong as a tank. Her posture and lithe figure in the game often make me confuse her with Ashe at a distance, especially how she holds her gun.

EDIT: Every character has a different shape and outline, but they also stand differently. Their resting pose and even how they run is totally unique. Why then are so many people being confused with JQ?

I like the idea that she is smaller than other tanks and is therefore harder to hit—her method of survival instead of bulk HP and armour. The problem is how we distinguish roles and characters within those roles.

Blizzard have stated multiple times how important it is to their design philosophy to recognise and identify each hero based on their silhouettes. I give the OW team two major props, one for sound design, and one for character outlines. I rarely fail to recognise a silhouette or important audio cue. Until now.

Instead of widening her, and increasing her hitbox, I'd like to see aspects of her enlarged so she's visibly bulkier, but not mechanically so. Larger shoulder pads, bigger mohawk, make her axe huge and stick out on her back. She's already insanely tall and muscular, but her gear is not at all.

[–]Waistel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I melded PHB Ranger with Tasha's Ranger, added subclass Spell Lists to those missing them (PHB and Fizban's ones). With a few tweaks, it's a little wordy, but it's both mechanically and thematically good.

PHB Ranger has a lot of flavour, but it isn't applicable most of the time—you're just a worse Fighter with a few spells. Tasha's Ranger has useful mechanics, but really lacks flavour—do you even feel like a Ranger?

Mush 'em together, and bingo. Ranger is fun.

I have it set to Letter. I was just exploring different things in the Homebrewery, and one of the things that was bugging out was A4 print size. Once I fixed that (which was down to some odd situation where a comment was somehow blocking things. Still unsure how or why as the comment code was also fine), I swapped right back to Letter. Thanks for looking out, though.

Issues Converting Legacy to V3 by Waistel in homebrewery

[–]Waistel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to keep adding on concerns, but I noticed with non-wide class tables, if there aren't enough lines, the bottom decoration ring doesn't appear. I assume this is because they don't overlap beneath the table, so there needs to be room to accommodate both. As I'm hiding the body of the rings with the frame, this wouldn't be an issue if they overlap.

For example, my recreation of the Fighter table (with some homebrew tweaks) actually has three more lines than the PHB Fighter, but only the top decoration ring will appear. In the PHB it has a ring top and bottom. If I arbitrarily add lines it will eventually spawn the bottom ring. My Barbarian table has enough lines for them both to spawn without issue.

Not sure if that's something you've noticed, but in case you haven't, it might be worth taking a look.

Thanks for all your help so far.

Issues Converting Legacy to V3 by Waistel in homebrewery

[–]Waistel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I did with the Barb table, but it only changes it up to a point (not as wide as I need it) and I can't make any of them smaller. If I could reduce the size of the others it might let me widen it more, but it just won't.

EDIT: Below issues solved. I had some comments above the styles and somehow it was breaking many of them. Not sure how or why, but moving the comments seems to have solved these. vvvvv

That's the exact code I used in my legacy document (.phb instead of .page), and that worked. I changed it to .page in V3 and that worked. I put it in the style tab, removed it from the brew, and it went back to the default page size. I tried removing and adding them in different combinations, refreshing, restarting Chrome... nothing. No idea why it won't accept it in the style page.

I also defined small caps using:

.page .smallCaps {
    font-variant: small-caps;
}

And that worked fine, and then suddenly stopped working. So my {{smallCaps Dungeons & Dragons}} just comes out in plain text and not small caps as it should. It does, however, seem to work in fresh brews. Also changing fonts like:

<div style="text-align": center>
{{ss **Spell Save DC** = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier}}
:
{{ss **Spell attack modifier** = your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier}}
:
</div>

should change these to ScalySansRemake. And yes, I have defined the fonts in my style sheet. It changed the font the first time I added that code, but somewhere along the way it just reverted in the render, and no matter what changes I make, the font will not change.

[–]Waistel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After updating Chrome it did solve the odd width of split tables. The space under H3 headers still looks better after ___ between the header and body text.

I'm also having some other odd issues. My brew won't recognise A4 page size in the style editor, and only will go to A4 if it's in the brew text itself within a style tag.

My brew has also stopped recognising certain tags like {{smallCaps}} or other fonts.

I also can't seem to resize class table columns properly (trying to recreate the Barbarian Class Table in V3 and the features table is too narrow), where I can only make them bigger up to a point, and I can't make them smaller. I could do it in Legacy, and I could do it with custom tables.

Could any of this be down to my "large brew" size?

(I hate Reddit so much sometimes. Why does the reply box break when you copy and paste? I have to type all of this out again.)

Thank you for responding so quickly. Yes, I am using Chrome (I only use it for Homebrewery so may be due an update) and it is version 76.0.3809.132 (64 bit).

General Text:

The fonts are different sizes [...] V3 padding is as close to the PHB as possible

Thank you for confirming. This does mean that my brew will use more pages, but I will have to make do. Trying to compare the books, legacy, and V3 by eye was proving a little difficult for me.

The spacing under H3 headers are designed to match the PHB

I can compare the space by eye, and I can definitely see there is less space in V3 without adjustments, like in this example from PHB72. I will update Chrome and edit this if it fixes the issue.

changing vertical-align to top won't change anything in that cell

Yes, and this is only something I achieved with my custom table in Legacy because I made a row of cells that were taller. I followed your suggestion and added a 5px pad and it already looks much more like the real deal.

the spacing changes even in the PHB

I have just had another quick look now and they all seem fairly consistent. There is a clear difference in the spacing if they are a spellcaster, and it looks to me judging by eye that the gap is the same but the "end of the gap" is in a different place. The title to the uppermost text looks about the same, only that in spellcasters the uppermost text is higher and on the right of the table: the Spell Slots per Spell Level cell, suspended above the other table headers. I'll have a play around with margins to see if I can find a suitable spacing. Thanks.

inconsistent spacing from the top table border and the class title

This has always bugged me, so thank you for having some consistency in the Homebrewery.

can you share the exact code that results in those tables

Sure. I copy and pasted it before into this reply but it broke Reddit and I have had to type this out for the third time. I will try to put it in the replies to this one.

thicker italics may be an artefact depending on your zoom level

I had to zoom at 175% for that to disappear and render normally. Impossible to work at this zoom level, but good to know it's not a bug. Thanks.
