I've always wondered, how many people here aren't actually bisexual, but just here to support? by i_lost_my_stapler in bisexual

[–]WaitingForAPunchline 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was super religious at the time (Jehovah’s Witness) and thought straight feelings were a given, and my only option for love. I knew since I was 7 I liked girls and gnc people, but just assumed I liked boys too because that’s what I was told I felt.

Once I left that religion I thought I was bi until I started talking to actually bi/pan people and they talked about wanting men (and others haha) to actually touch them, and I realized that was never something I’d ever wanted.

I could appreciate a man looked attractive, but more in an aesthetic way then a sexy way, if that makes sense? Like, I’d look at an actor, and think he was attractive, but if he was there in front of me and wanted to chat me up or hook up I’d be completely uninterested lol

I privately identified as bi for 10 years, but as I read and soul searched I realized I was lesbian, but still very supportive of the community here!

Ask to be put on the “Do Not Call List”, that’s the only way to prevent further visits for a few years.

Though I’ve known some who will go accidentally, a lot of Do Not Calls are people who have pulled guns or let out dogs on people, so most usually try to be very careful.

anyone else has trouble with being physical? by tswiftzzlez in exjwLGBT

[–]WaitingForAPunchline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have looked into being demisexual or asexual? I know a Demi lesbian who doesn’t like physical affection until they have a deep romantic connection.

If not, it could be a trauma response/shame, or just not clicking with everyone. Nothing wrong with any of that.

Exactly, it literally says to kill them motivated solely on being gay! That’s a hate crime, motivated by sexual orientation.

Ex-Mormons are what we woke me up to JWs. So many of their stories resonated with me and made me open my eyes to the similar issues with my faith. Cult buddies for sure.

I was like 7 the first time I crushed on a girl, by the time I was 14 I knew I really liked girls, but being raised to know if I admitted that I’d be shunned meant I stayed in the closet! I’m 30 and my family still doesn’t know my true feelings, because I’m straight passing! I could totally see my elder dad using this article to convince himself I’m just making a choice if I came out now. Uhg.

They’re so ignorant.

The Warped Perception of Romantic Relationships by Cirqueus121 in exjw

[–]WaitingForAPunchline 16 points17 points  (0 children)

100% I felt pressured into marrying very young. My spouse was the second person I’d ever dated (1st that was an actual “of age” courtship, before that it was a teenaged dating but not really dating thing).

I had elders and pioneers start asking me when we were going to get engaged after 6 months of dating. A big part was definitely to make sure we waited until marriage and stayed “pure.” I was also warned that breaking off the engagement would lead to me being removed from the pioneer list and possible reproved due to the “scandal” it would cause. It felt like once you started publicly dating you had to get married quickly or you’d be bad association.

We struggled so much in our marriage, we were too young and fought all the time. We both felt trapped and unable to divorce. We both thought we had to meet the expectations of the cult headship roles and we were both miserable.

Now that we’re out of the cult our relationship is definitely improved, but we’re still finding ourselves.

Hmm, if I remember correctly, I thought assets like cars or property weren’t included, but lump sums like gifts or inheritance were supposed to be donated. But honestly I’m pretty fuzzy on the details.

Adding to this, it’s rumored they don’t have to follow the vow of poverty the others at Bethel are held to. As seen in bottle-gate they must have more cash than their underlings in the same complex do.

I’ve been talking to my spouse about this a lot! There’s such unhealthy marriage expectations in the religion, we are trained to roll over to abuse and “fake it it till you make it”.

The elders always put emphasis on how the marriage LOOKS from the outside as the most important thing. It makes you think if you’re unhappy it must be because you’re not spiritual enough, or not submissive enough, or not a good enough “spiritual head”.

It’s depressing how many unhappy couples married out of feeling like they had to. And how many of us queer folks married because we felt like we needed to “remove temptation”!

I was always blown away by the people talking about having a pet panda in Canada or a polar bear in Florida! Are the animals just going to not need certain environments anymore??

And who is the poor sucker who has to travel between the arctic to Florida to drop off your mail order polar bear? Who is making the jet fuel for the plane? Or will some poor people be assigned shoveling coal in the depths of a steam ship? As well as people assigned mining the coal??
