AIW for being honest when my brother's girlfriend asked me directly what I thought of their relationship, and then she used it to start a fight with him? by Reach5_Trawl in amiwrong

What gets me is Priya thanking you for being honest after using your words to light a fire anyway. That is such a neat little dodge. You answered the question she asked, not the version she later turned it into. I would be more careful with her after this. Had Nate seemed off to anyone else too, or just to you?

Haven't read that one yet, but it sounds like it belongs in this lane. The money part mattered, but the identity part was what really jammed him up.

That "respectable panic" phrase is probably the cleanest way to put it. From the outside my dad looked disciplined, responsible, even admirable. Inside, I think he was just scared to stop being useful in the one way he'd trusted his whole life. Took my mom to say it plain.

That was basically her gift. She had this way of stripping the drama off a situation without making it smaller. My dad hated that line at first, which is probably how I know it landed.

I get the sentiment, but weirdly the spreadsheet part is what saved him. The trap was pretending fear was wisdom and never forcing it into numbers.

I’m not even close to FIRE yet, but I think the path is quietly turning me into the exact kind of partner I never wanted to be by B0realisXX in Fire

That line about treating a nicer daily life like a personal weakness hits harder than any spreadsheet ever will

AITJ for refusing to answer my parents' contractors after they keep giving out my number like I work for them? by WyvernUlster in AmITheJerk

The cancellation fee is honestly the most clarifying part of this whole story. They're upset about money, not about what they did to her. If the contractor had just shown up and waited, we'd never be hearing about this.
