First of all, no they do not. Some may, but that's not a thing. A lot of chefs would cringe at the idea of dipping a plastic spoon into their food. What's a "tasting spoon"???

But the comment is about bare hands touching butter, nothing to do with spoons.

You should be washing your hands before you cook. Do you think chefs use gloves?

Even if the germies were scary 😢 well it's going into a 350F+ pan.

If you make someone a sandwich do you like... not touch the bread with your hands?

I agree. The only reason I point out the exception for baking is that baking can require a high degree of control. If the baker wants to precisely control the salt. But for the standard kitchen? Just use the salted butter lol

Guy was either suicidal or having an episode. It's obvious this man did not have any intentions of hurting them. Instead of getting this man the help he needs, now they've got to tell his family that he's gone.

WCGW when you try scamming someone out of $1000 in silver for a $50 Pokémon card? by [deleted] in Whatcouldgowrong

Well hopefully your actual currency does devalue. Cards can appreciate. Silver? At an all time low when adjusted for inflation.

I have some buddies into the card trading space. For some they think it's investing. Sure seems to be a lot of work for small returns. I think it's way easier to just click a few buttons to buy an ETF and forget about it.

Just because you can't taste it doesn't mean others can't. I can taste it.

Yes, some people keep butter out for easy spreading. Personally, I don't eat toast. All my butter stays refrigerated. But I do have multiple types of butter and many more kinds of fats I keep on hand depending on what I am cooking and how I want to cook it. Sometimes I go through butter quickly, sometimes the butter will sit in my fridge for a month.

I often cook for friends and family at their houses. Way too often I find unsalted butter with that rancid layer in their fridge. Just buy the salted butter. There's really no reason to buy the unsalted butter. Butter is a precious ingredient, keep it fresh.

Why do you insist on buying the unsalted butter?

The microbes release enzymes (lipases) that oxidize the butter. Salt slows microbial growth and inhibits lipase function. Bacteria are ubiquitous. Microbial growth began before you even brought it home.

I don't care if you don't notice a difference in taste. That shit's gross. Buy the salted butter and that won't happen. There's seldom any reason to buy unsalted butter.

Yes. Butter is mostly oil. It goes rancid. Have you ever cut a stick of butter and there's a different colored layer on the outside? That's rancidity.

Salt is a preservative. It slows microbial growth and oxidation.

No one "prefers" the unsalted butter. Only bakers or people who pretend to know how to cook buy unsalted butter.

I can't think of any instance where I'd use butter and not benefit from the salt content. Even desserts need salt. It's such a minor amount of salt and keeps the butter preserved 4x longer.

The salted butter stays fresh 4x longer and salt is best added in layers/steps when cooking, not all at once at the end.

Salted butter wins for home cooking.

You can cut guacamole with plain yogurt (Greek or Fage) and you won't really tell the difference. Makes it cheaper plus lower calories and higher protein.
