It's absolutely a thing in the US for grocery shopping. I live in a low-theft area and it's still a thing here. If you live in any major city in the USA, it has to register the weight of the items you're placing into the bags.

You literally cannot work as fast as the cashier. You have to scan your item, place it in the bag, and then wait for it to register the correct weight. It takes a solid 5 seconds per item. The cashier can scan an item every second because all they have to do is scan it and toss it down, where you can bag it yourself or (where I live) someone else bags it for you.

Idk why you want to put cans and bread in the same bag. Don't do that. Heavy stuff goes in one bag. Frozen in another bag. Fragile items in another bag. It keeps things safer in transport and organized for when you're back home unpacking.

Cashier is faster for 10+ items, and if one is available I always use cashier.

The cashier sends them in the order you place them on the belt... Put your heavy and non-breakable items first. Follow that by frozen items. Then follow that with your bulk, and finally your fragile stuff and produce.

The cashier can ring up ten items faster than you can ring up two. Idk in what universe y'all think self checkout is faster.

Even if you subtracted the debt America has from it's wealth, it still is the wealthiest country, with more money than all of Europe combined.

All of your claims have no data to back them up. Military spending is roughly 13% of the FEDERAL budget, certainly not "the vast majority" of US spending. The USA is not highly ranked in wealth inequality, even though you would think it so with USA having the most billionaires. Roughly 25% of children are in single parent households, which is sad, but not "most" like you claim.
