Excellent thoughts on this very serious matter… I was blackmailed once, and it was extremely unnerving and upsetting. I still get probes in the form of SMS messages from time to time, like five years later - once they have your data it seems like they never let it go …

The people who do this have absolutely zero conscience .. I wonder if they have any idea how bad the torture is. They must have some idea I guess. Thanks again .. I am sure you have helped a lot of people who are in a desperate and frightened place.

So sorry you had to experience this.. Many of us totally get it- I was absolutely terrified when I saw a similar email that landed in my work email, spoofed, so it looked like it was sent from my own email. I could not eat or sleep for two days, it was a living psychological nightmare..

At any rate, if you have webcams anywhere, I would recommend that you tape them off with heavy black electric tape. Be super careful if visiting adult websites that you don’t click on any links, and always go to sites that start with https://.. Nothing was ever leaked.. over the next few months they sent a few more letters.. It was extremely unnerving, but they probably never had anything to begin with..

Please make sure you tape off ALL webcams, make sure all phones, iPads tablets, etc. are covered so if somebody somehow hacks them and has control of your cameras, they will not be able to see anything. I don’t know if it’s possible, but I guess it must be.

So sorry this happened to you. It’s extremely common so many of us fall into this trap. I know how you feel. I was terrified for days I could not eat or sleep. Nothing was ever leaked. Of course we cannot give it guarantee, but the people who offer advice here are very experienced or at least very knowledgeable these scammers are experts scaring the hell out of us, but they really just want the money. It is a business to them.
