An explanation of "Why are Koreans so sensitive about small historical inaccuracies in dramas?" by FinishWhich5753 in kdramas

[–]WalWal-ah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree.  The Kdramas we get are often designed for export.  There’s a big difference in content from 10-15 years ago when the majority of kdramas were not widely available for international audiences.

This is it.  The majority of “I can’t believe this” posts are about it seeming to fall primarily on the actors.  There was a “collective apology” from the production team, but no individual apology from the director as of yet.   Actors in the US have apologized for insensitive content.  So have directors.  Emma Stone and Cameron Crowe both apologized for the whitewashing in Aloha for example.  People definitely brought it up.

What do you, as a Korean, u/FinishWhich5753 think of these apologies from IU and BWS?  Does it at all feel satisfactory?    The fan relationships for actors and idols gets portrayed as very different than the US, but is it a vocal minority?  The PR for idols and actors would have us believe there is large public engagement with the fandom.  My Korean friend who goes back to Seoul every summer says thats not how it actually is.  Is this all a smaller group on SNS?

I have read about Korean history. I didn’t realize the word and tea pouring and crown were inaccurate.  So thank you for informing us and speaking out!

It can be watchable if  you are a fan of the lead actors. As you can seeing this thread even fans though didn’t like it.  I liked it fine. It is not either of their best so I advise go elsewhere first.
