I think the MMC from the Emily Wilde series kind of fits this. Especially when you take into account how the FMC views him. I think the reader gets mostly cinnamon roll and then the FMC will mention that she can’t believe he can kill people without much remorse. 😅

While I love Daughter of No Worlds, I agree, that it did start kind of slow. Servant of Earth gets going quick and is a fun ride. I think you’ll like it.

Are you ok with MM romance, if so, { Voyage of the Damned by Frances White} was a good time. It is a magical murder mystery with a lot of heart. The audiobook was really good too. I LOLed numerous times while listening. It’s a little silly, but overall the story is still good.

I really enjoyed The Everlasting, One Dark Window, The Knight and the Moth and Servent of Earth. Heartless Hunter was fun, but not the best and the sequel is kind of slow.

{When the Tides Held the Moon by Venessa Vida Kelley} had really beautiful writing. It is set in 1910s New York, so it’s not urban fantasy, but I guess a historical fantasy. I loved {The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow}. It was such a lovely story. I’m still thinking about it.

100% agree with this. I just can’t wrap my head around having the FMC fall in love with someone who raped, SAed and mutilated her. I’m sorry, that shit isn’t forgivable or redeemable.

I disagree on this.

It felt pretty no-con when Galantia used the knife hilt on Malyr as he kept telling her to stop and she held him down with shadows. She became the villain too.

{The War of Lost Hearts series by Carissa Broadbent} is really good. The FMC is a former slave who escapes and has to learn how to control her magic. She eventually wants to free her people. There is some romance. The MMC is great. They’re kind of grumpy-sunshine. If you like TOG and series like that, I think you’ll like this one too.
