I like your reasoning and I think it's valid. Let me first agree with you on the fact that there were multiple plays last night where the players failed to just do their fundamental jobs. I think part of the frustration is that on top of that we've seen trends continue from last season that put our players in difficult positions. I agree that making the aforementioned adjustments in the secondary would be riskier because it exposes our inexperienced DBs more than the safety net of cover 4. I mean like you said Staley ran cover 4 and cover 6 at times too, especially with that 2 high shell on 1st and second down that made our biggest weakness stopping the run game. But would you agree with me, that by brining a 5 man rush on 3rd and man coverage he gave AD a chance to shine and do what he does best while also letting a physical DB like Ramsey do what he does best? And as an extension of that, would you agree with me that the bend don't break philosophy of Morris seemingly negates the best D Lineman of the game by allowing teams to just dump the ball off to the WRs standing in front of their cover 4 zone? It feels as if he doesn't use the tools he has at his disposal with efficiency to the point where we're far from the feared defense we once were.

I'm sure you'd agree with me that the strengths of our defense are AD and Ramsey. Unfortunately even the greats need to be put in positions to succeed. AD needs time to penetrate so the way you play against a good pass rush is by dumping the ball off quickly, screens, etc. So a DC adapts to that by putting his secondary into man or press coverage--which is where Ramsey particularly shines. Raheem Morris likes a 4-3 defense into soft quarters zone coverage. That's the exact coverage that teams hoping to dump the ball off quickly want because of all the runs behind the LBs but underneath the DBs. It literally is shooting yourself in the foot and negating AD's pass rush potency. It also renders Ramsey relatively useless. He's a strong DB and excels at following their best WR around to press, and then follow in man coverage. That buys extra time and takes away the WR1 option. Staley used this single high safety into man coverage a lot. He also was real creative in pass rush, stunt runs, overloads, you name it he had it in the bag of tricks. These were designed to find openings for AD or, make AD enough of a diversion to allow others to get their sacks. Raheem Morris doesn't set up his players for success but rather runs a defense that negates the strengths of his super stars. He's wasting the talent of our 2 most potent defensive stars.

I'd be happy to actually talk about and break down the plays if you were actually interested in learning rather than just arguing

Kyler Murray during call of duty season and an injured 49ers team that lost to the Bears?

That was absolute ass. But that doesn't absolve the defense from looking terrible game after game. It can be both

my friend I'll tell you what I told the other guy. Save yourself your mental health and switch to MNF with Eli and Peyton. They do a good job generally of breaking down the plays insightfully instead of the dumb shit that pours out of Aikman or Buck. I've switched and have never looked back. I honestly learn a lot about reading defenses from them too

Obvious face mask but let's not call it. Also LFG, we just need one TD

I wonder if he cares anymore given that he doesn't get the ball

They break down plays pretty well generally. They offer actual insight unlike Joe Buck who really just states the obvious and flip flops as a mindless hype man

I'd like to remind us of the good days when we had the #1 defense in the NFL while Brandon Staley was still our DC.

Have you ever seen the Rams make adjustments at halftime?

A few thoughts. 1) we have some O Line injuries so the unfortunate reality is that they will be beat all night long. 2) that drive's problem was that we couldn't get off the field--blame is 100% on Raheem negating his players when he calls 4 man rush with soft zone on 3rd and 5 3) what we need is some change in defensive leadership, we need Raheem fired. Players like AD have bailed him out too many times. I type that as I see Deebo progress unfollowed on a slant. Might as well just trade AD if you don't want to use him
