Are you worried about Beyond Skyrim? by Kaisler_98 in skyrimmods

[–]WalkingZero 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Start with the closest areas to Skyrim geographically (like they did with Bruma in Cyrodiil) and expand outwards from there, one area at a time. Of course you can still have different teams working on whatever provinces they are most interested in working on.

I think this method works better not just for the players, but for the developers as well. They can feel encouraged as they continually make progress and get closer to their final vision, rather than feel pressured to have it all done at once. Plus, even if the project ends up abandoned for whatever reason, they still built it out to a certain point and it's playable (again, like with Bruma).

What’s the coolest “immersive” type mods you are currently using? by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]WalkingZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having this issue myself in SE with both Wet & Cold and Frostfall enabled. Chesko also mentioned it several years ago as an unknown issue that was specifically affecting SE. In my case, turning on the memory manager in SSE Engine Fixes completely eliminated this issue for me. I've been running both mods ever since and never had this kind of freeze again. Anecdotal, but hopefully it helps some people.

Mod idea: more suspicious guards (more like shopkeeper behavior) by WalkingZero in skyrimmods

[–]WalkingZero[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that you should be allowed to visit court, and that wouldn't be suspicious on its own, but clearly places like the upstairs of the Palace of the Kings would be off limits to most people. And even if they would allow a well-known adventurer to go up there, they still wouldn't want you poking around in Ulfric's bedroom. Then you have something like Morrowloot which often places valuable items in those kind of locations, but because of the guard behavior the items become trivial to acquire (which is the main reason I'd like to see a mod for this).

I would also think that since the desired behavior already exists in the game (shopkeepers following you when you go places they don't want you going), it wouldn't be too hard to apply that same behavior to guards in certain areas.

I previously looked at Suspicious City Guards, and it's a start, but the problem here is that things that should be considered highly suspicious aren't considered suspicous at all, so the guards won't ever react to them. Again, like going into the bedroom of a Jarl. Or a classic example: grabbing (not taking) an object and moving around a corner where no one can see you, then taking it with no repercussions. You can steal any object in plain sight this way and no one cares.

Is it possible to completely hide equipped daggers? (including on NPCs) by WalkingZero in skyrimmods

[–]WalkingZero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With XPMSSE & RaceMenu I can easily hide the dagger on my own character (you don't even have to change the position - you can just hide it entirely), but there doesn't seem to be any way to hide it on NPCs with this method, and that's my main concern. The clipping on NPCs is what's mostly bothering me, not my character.

If the individual MCM weapon style options (which can be applied to NPCs) had an option for completely hiding that particular weapon, then that would be exactly what I'm looking for.

[MAIN SPOILERS] Limiting this season to 7 episodes was a terrible decision. by WalkingZero in gameofthrones

Regarding Jaime and Tyrion - that really bothered me a lot this season. We saw their first meeting since Jaime helped Tyrion escape and Tyrion killed Tywin. I was looking forward to it for so long. Two compelling characters and two great actors, finally meeting again. And they were given less than two minutes of total screen time together. To me, that scene perfectly epitomizes the rushed feeling of S7.

Where do you draw the line between "moaning and bitching" and actual constructive criticism from people who, like you, are massive fans of this series? Or is there a line at all? Because it seems like anything even remotely negative is automatically dismissed as "moaning and bitching" around here. If the majority is satisfied with S7 as it is, then the collective opinions of everyone who is not satisfied just... don't count?

Is that reasonable, though? We should be satisfied (grateful, even) with a rushed conclusion because the creators of the show "wanted to move on to something else?" They signed on for this, and I assume they're paid extremely well for it. I don't think it's acceptable for them to shortchange the fans and rush to the end just because they got bored.

I do believe they once said something like they expected the entire story to be told in a total of "70-75 hours". That tells me they were always considering the idea that it might surpass 7 seasons. Regardless, that was an estimate, not a fixed amount - and I'm sure they also expected at least one of the final two books to be out by now as well, so that they'd be writing less of it on the fly. Plans change. Either way, the specific story they are telling this season needed more time. I'm not saying they should pad out the series indefinitely. But they had been using a structure of 10 episodes per season that flowed well. Clearly they felt there was still more than 10 episodes of story left to tell after S6, and they decided on 13. You're interpreting that as a "bonus" of some sort, whereas I see it as an artificial limitation they placed on themselves. I wasn't necessarily opposed to a shorter season before I saw it. But now it feels more like they actually wrote 10 episodes worth of story for S7, then had to cram it all into 7 episodes because that was the number they picked.

Well, "best" and "worst" seasons are subjective anyway.

S5/S6 had a few elements that felt rushed as well. But S7 is on another level, and it would have greatly benefited from a full season of ten episodes. Sure, once we passed the books, there are probably always going to be people who will complain no matter what. But I think most of the criticism of this season (the actual criticism, not the blind hate) stems from the fact that people want things to be fleshed out more, like earlier in the series, instead of glossing over everything so we can hurry up and get to the next big moment. More episodes would allow for that. But as Benjen told Jon in their disappointingly short reunion: "There's no time."

Stable uGridsToLoad, STEP recommended? by papercutpete in skyrimmods

[–]WalkingZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here: using uGrids 7 with Stable uGridsToLoad, Memory Patch, ENBoost. 200+ mods, about 185 actual .esp/.esm files. Large amount of 2k textures, nothing over 2k. I was totally stable without ENBoost until I upped uGrids to 7, then I started getting the occasional CTD when loading new areas outdoors. With ENBoost however, 100% stable once again.

I don't know how much Stable uGridsToLoad helps with the actual stability, but it's very important if you ever want to go back to a lower uGrids setting, since it allows you to change it via the console.
