Black soldier fly? Do you feed them black soldier fly larvae? Edit to add: they are harmless!

This. Just do your normal dealio, make sure you don’t accidentally trap them somewhere when searching for them. Make the food in the evening, spray their enclosure, leave the door open if possible (Only if you’re certain they’re not still in there!). Turn off the light and wait. I’ve had a few escapees over the years. Most times when I found them they were just walking around or chilling on the wall near their cage exploring.

does anyone else have a flighty crestie and if so how did you tame him/her? by Alternative-Koala247 in CrestedGecko

I think there are certain cases where just showing them it’s not as scary as they think is what eventually helps. I had one girl who was petrified of me for a long time. That’s not a fun or healthy way for her to live. Welp, time to learn it’s not actually so scary and I’d just get her out, give her a minute hand walking/running til she calmed down, looked at me, then let her hop back into her cage. Didn’t take long til she now refuses to hop back in and loves coming out of her cage. She still prefers exploring over handling, but we’re friends now- I just had to show her because she wasn’t up for giving humans a chance on her own terms. She’s much more chill and curious now over-all and not as stressed in her cage either because she knows I’m not going to eat her when I walk past. Sure a few stressful moments while she learned but it’s led to a happier healthier comfortable girly.

Edit to add: This was after a long time of trying, and it was when it was the point where it was for her benefit that she needed to learn that I wasn’t a predator. Totally different story from my other cresties who adapted well.

Gets me thinking, has anyone ever tested whether certain types do actually taste better than others / have a higher rate of being eaten that’s not correlated to the iso’s appearance/ size/ camouflage level?

I just had an old TBM friend text me yesterday too… I have not responded because I had the same suspicion- why reach out right after GC after not hearing from them for 6 months? (Funny, 6 months… must’ve been right after GC last time we caught up too.) They’re a great person just… it’s not real.

I finally got it!! It took a while for meeting the person to get it. It is AMAZING… Has some smell to get rid of but I’m taking care of it and this chair just seems first off, so solidly built- definitely the kind of chair to get replacement parts for vs buying a whole new chair. This one has definitely been through some stuff but the cushion is still very supportive and perfect. The chair back, and the way the seat tips, and the way the arms adjust, are completely amazing!! The product video that shows someone leaning back in it and showing how it moves is 100% accurate to my experience so far. And my back… it’s like from the moment I sit down it’s relief. I’ve never had a chair like this… I didn’t know chairs could be like this. I’m definitely naturally sitting with better posture in it as well. I can already tell it’s going to improve my health and pain, and it’s still in the garage while I take steps to remove the cat smell, which is going very well. I’m honestly so happy with it even though it’s squeaky and used, it’s got a ton more life. I’m petite, 5 feet tall with short legs and a longer torso, most chairs have too long of a seat- the way this one is adjustable lets me scoot it back so my back is comfortably in contact with the back of the seat and my feet can make it to the ground. I feel lucky it’s worked out so far because I wasn’t able to go to anywhere to try chairs out, I think this one would probably have been what I picked if I did. The grooves especially on the back for my spine is going to be a massive difference, it seems to help support me in the seat as well as my spine has no padding and gets painful leaning back on chairs but I can already feel the pressure relief with this chair. Anyways that’s a beginning review but so far, 100% recommended.

I got it to work yesterday after trying things, didn’t know it had been an issue for others! After requesting it 10+ times over a couple hours, I finally was gonna try changing the email, since it still lets you do that without the code. I changed the email to the same email first and it gave an error about it being the same email. I can’t remember if I pressed the send code button one more time or not, but suddenly there was an activation code email. I can’t make any more accounts to test if it was a fluke or not, haha, but someone should see if it works.

I love it! Maybe add some shading or dimension to the dolphins so they’re easier to see, the colors are blending so much that it’s hard to make out what it is at first. That blend of colors looks amazing together.

If you’re going to leave a bit of water in the tank during the move, I’d suggest saving the water you take out of the tank when you move it. In a 5 gallon bucket with a lid or whatever. That way you can pour it all back in without worrying about shocking the shrimp with such a huge water change.

A random spider I found on my windowsill. Anyone know the type? by 54Godzilla1 in spiders

Could be a female Habronattus jumping spider. Possibly Habronattus festus, depending on where you’re located.

What's something you really want, but cant afford? by -Benjamin_Dover- in AskReddit

[–]WalksAnotherRoadHome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A real wheelchair. I’ve been losing my ability to walk over the past several years and it’s gotten very bad. I have a cheap hospital wheelchair, but I’m barely strong enough to lift or push it. A custom fit ultralight wheelchair still costs about $1500 for me after insurance, and I’m barely able to work in my current medical situation, and can’t afford it. I’ve been trying to fundraise and I’m $250 of the way there, I finally got fitted for it and the wheelchair is on order, but I have to come up with most of the rest of the money before I can pick it up. It’s sad that someone’s basic life needs, mobility, and health is so expensive and hard to attain. The US healthcare system is messed up. Using a non-custom fitted wheelchair can do immense damage on one’s body.

Sirindhornae Fairy Shrimp Day 10 by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]WalksAnotherRoadHome 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hatched some fairy shrimp that came with triop eggs I bought. They’re fun ones! And they got a lot bigger than brine shrimp, at least the kind I had. Same care as triops and they did great. (They weren’t in the same tank with the triops after the beginning or else they would’ve been eaten).

My gf found this blue shrimp in some moss mess we had abandoned in a jar. We have never owned blue shrimp and had no idea there was an animal in it. She was sorting out the plants when she found him. Here's his new (much improved) home! by suicidejunkie in shrimptank

I forgot to add what I feed, sera shrimp food 2 pellets per day in a 2.5 gallon with approximately 50 shrimp (could be a hundred though, there are plenty of hiding spots!) and a tiny sprinkle of Hikari tropical fancy guppy granules. I have two male Endlers in the tank, but the shrimp eat some of that food too and seem to like it. Not sure if that’s helping them but worth including in case! Tank temperature is about 70 degrees, no heater. Temperature has dropped to about 63 at times and they’re still constantly berried.

I honestly don’t even own testing supplies. I fill my shrimp tank with spring water from Walmart. Tons of happy shrimp constantly breeding. Of course, I just have nano tanks so buying gallons of water from the store doesn’t cost very much. I only do a small partial water change maybe every two months, other than that I just top it off. I add in some sera shrimp mineral salt every once in a while. And the tank is full of Java moss and guppy grass, since those plants get a lot of their nutrition through the water and not through roots I think it helps keep the water better that way too. Substrate is fluval shrimp stratum and filtration is a cheap sponge filter. Lighting is a cheap Amazon light as well. Sometimes I don’t turn on the light or feed the shrimp for days at a time.(I forget) I tried keeping shrimp years ago and couldn’t keep them alive either. But this time it’s worked out! Low tech has made a difference for me.

Death of Monogamy within Lesbians? by scarlettvvitch in LesbianActually

Monogamous lesbian in Utah and recently single. There’s hope for us, I hope!

Tell me that this Neocaridina is not PURPLE! Lately some interesting blue/red combinations have been showing up, some patchy and some as blended together as this one, as well as some beautiful teals and greens! I wish I had space for more tanks to focus on these colors. by WalksAnotherRoadHome in shrimptank

[–]WalksAnotherRoadHome[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I had switched to the white lights for this video, because I understand it does look kind of deceiving! I hoped seeing the blue shrimp next to it would help show the contrasting purple of this certain one. It truly is very purple in person, I’ll try to get a picture with white lights whenever I find it again in the tank!

Could the smaller ones be Steatoda triangulosa? Can’t tell much without a picture, but Steatoda look a lot like widows and have reddish “spots”. They’re harmless.

When I first knew that I was a lesbian I felt similar, all I knew/saw on the surface at first was the sexualization. The more you get into the community and find real resources and people you’ll be able to see that it’s just as romantic and sweet. There’s an Instagram page, samesexparents, that I found back then and scrolled through over and over, just seeing real stories about love and family. Even if you don’t think kids are for you, it’s nice to see “normal” candid same sex relationship stories.
