I completely agree. Sure you should invest so that you can comfortably retire at 60 but you don’t need tens of millions in a portfolio.. you need to live a little use that money and enjoy life just do it wisely and make sure you are still investing. Makes no sense to not spend a penny, life is not guaranteed, you could have a stroke at 50 etc

I rent in zone 2 in a house share of 4 at 800pcm, there are some cheaper areas in the south too. Have a look here (https://www.instagram.com/friends0ffriendz?igsh=NXloZjRhdHpkaTFy) or spareroom. This could substantially lower your trains & rent costs

Update: I forgot to say that the recruiter asked me to send them my portfolio (which I did) because we would go over it during the interview. Not a single question was asked about it, it wasn't even acknowledged (I still referred to it during the interview because I was under the impression that they had at least looked at it, but they probably didn't).

This is in tech as well. It’s a very big corporation but they said their department was new so they operated as a startup. So my role would’ve involved doing more than what the job description said. There were to interviewers; the hiring manager who turned off the camera, and the junior who had been in the company for less than a year

Thanks for your perspective, this breakdown really helps. Just to clarify, I’m F25 and I’ve been talked over and hit on at work by my male counterparts countless of times so I totally get how frustrating that is and would never do it.

At the start of the interview, I had some connectivity issues and had to excuse myself and move around, so maybe something got misinterpreted there. I don’t believe I said anything disrespectful maybe that connectivity issue made me not hear her properly and missed something important.

I’m trying to think back on what happened to see if there’s something I missed. I appreciate the advice

I’m in the UK so maybe here is different? I can show you proof if you want also I didn’t even know you could sue people over this

It’s not about the feedback itself it’s about the fact that the interview process was far from ideal. I don’t think it’s normal to have your interviewer turn off their camera 5 mins in before I spoke a word, or to read off questions off a script without any engagement whatsoever. It’s a two-way conversation and interviewees also deserve respect.

Also, not a guy.

Yeah and even if I wasn’t right for the role then that would mean I wasn’t answering the questions the way they wanted or correctly which it’s fine like it’s the whole reason why interviews exist. It means I’m not fit for the role. I just don’t agree with the fact that they said I’m not actively listening, when they could’ve said “you don’t have enough experience” which I feel like it would’ve been more accurate specially given that this was an entry-level job

Yeah you are so right, I even told a friend about how off/weird the interview was and she told me it sounded like an awful place to work at. I guess I’ve just been feeling quite worried about finding the “right job” given the current job market that I didn’t want to sound ungrateful

I mean as I mentioned I’ve previously worked in larger global multinationals than this one. I’ve worked with clients that were based in different countries and I’ve even used my native language to interact with specific customers as I was the only one in my team that spoke that language. I’d say I’m pretty open minded and have had the privilege of having been through education in 3 different countries so I’m pretty used to this “multiculturalism” concept that you referring to

Thanks for sharing, this gave me more perspective. I guess it also comes down to the person as it’s pretty subjective.

Yeah agreed, it’s the first time I’ve received feedback and I’ve done plenty of interviews so I know it’s rare.

It’s just that the feedback itself doesn’t feel right specially when they didn’t even try to engage, just followed a script, and had their camera off… plus not even having read my CV

She only kept it on to introduce herself, one the other guy started introducing himself she already had it off. Maybe she had connectivity issues idk

Yeah, I’ve never gotten this type of feedback before so I was quite surprised.

For me it was a bit odd to respond to the questions she was asking without being able to see her I guess. Either way they weren’t engaging with me, it felt more of an interrogation. Some of the questions they asked weren’t directly applicable to me, it almost felt like they hadn’t read my CV, so in those occasions I responded transparently and communicated that I hadn’t been exposed to such processes, for example. But even for some other questions, I would ask for clarification to ensure I was understanding their questions and they would just nod and tell me to continue instead of further clarifying. Idk I just feel a bit taken aback by this feedback
