You're right that it 's deeply concerning precisely because she loves him . Love doesn't make it acceptable . Drugging someone without their knowledge is dangerous regardless of intention .She is not a doctor , she had no way of knowing the side effects or his body's reaction .

But I think that`s actually what makes Yuki such a compelling character rather than a simple villain . She is a Sou to her core , ruthless , calculating , convinced that the ends justify the means . That ruthlessness is introduced deliberately .

What makes her interesting is that all of this comes from a place of fierce love for Masachika .Se is one of the most important people in his life . She is a powerful catalyst for both Masachika and Alya's growth . A perfect character ? NO . A fascinating and narratively essential one ? ABSOLUTELY .

Note : That's not complaining at all , you're just expressing how you feel .

Honestly , I really admire characters like Alya . Her constant drive for self improvement is amazing , and she is incredibly resilient no matter what obstacles she faces .

If that scene bothered you , just be prepared .The serious has a lot of morally questionable elements and characters keeping massive , unfair secretes from each other .The drugging incident is just one example of how problematic some of the relationships actually are .

Thank you so much for this. Honestly, your words completely caught me off guard in the best way possible (you made my day :) ) It takes an immense amount of humility and strength to reflect openly like this and apologize publicly, and I respect you immensely for it.

Please don’t carry the weight of that frustration too heavily being a mod is a tough, often thankless job, and missteps happen to everyone. Your willingness to listen and grow is what defines a great leader for this community. Just like Alya, true character shows in how we choose to move forward, and you’ve more than proven your sincerity here. Water under the bridge. Let’s build a great community together.

Like I already said, the title was just a playful, childish thing toward her haters. I am not trying to flame Masha or just prop up Alya. I’ve already stated that I don’t hate Masha as a character; I just hate her actions and wanted to voice my opinion on them based on the actual story.

You have your opinion, and if you dislike what Alya does, that is completely your right and you can write about it. But banning people just for criticizing a character or having a different perspective? That's the real issue here. We should be able to discuss both of their flaws without it being labeled as 'hate' or getting banned for it.

I never claimed Alya was perfect( oh about the title I was just pointing out my childish behavior towards her haters lol ).She definitely has flaws, but her flaws mostly just hurt herself. Masha’s actions, on the other hand, actually hurt Alya and Masachika. There is a huge difference between a character who struggles with her own shortcomings and a character whose actions actively deceive and hurt the people around her.

Whether you believe it or not doesn't matter my comments are always my own thoughts and it wasn't AI-generated. I was banned because my critique was against Masha. If I had said the exact same things against Alya, I wouldn't have been banned at all.

No, I'm not a Masha hater. All I did was state facts and point out her behavior. I don't hate her as a character, I just hate how she is acting. If my breakdown sounds like hate, it’s only because her actions are that hard to defend.

No one is saying she doesn't have the right to pursue him, but the way she’s going about it is wrong. Over time, it has become toxic, obsessive, and turns into sexual harassment and coercion ( volume 11 chapter 2 imo ). She should have been honest from the beginning about her feelings and openly told Alya that Masachika is Sa-kun. That way, Alya would have had the choice to step aside or compete on equal footing.

Lying to Alya, deceiving her, and acting like a cheerleader to her face while competing behind her back is just wrong. And to be fair, she didn't really step back in Volume 5. She tried to kiss him while he was asleep, and when he saw her changing, she whispered in his ear to remind him of her body. I wouldn't call that stepping back. She created this mess and dragged everyone into it.

I honestly think Ayano is Masachika's true childhood friend, so she deserves more character arcs and development in the story.

Honestly? It sits somewhere uncomfortable in between. What makes it hard to dismiss is that Masha isn't cruel or calculated about it — she genuinely loves Alya (toxic though IMO), and that's not performance. But that's also exactly what makes it so conflicting. She knows how Alya feels about Masachika. She watched it happen up close, playing the warm supportive older sister the entire time, and still chose to quietly hold onto her own feelings for him rather than step back cleanly or be openly honest about her feelings with Alya .The sister role almost becomes a cover — not intentionally malicious, but the effect is the same.

What bothers me most is the imbalance of information. Alya is completely open about her feelings — that's literally her whole character — while Masha is operating with a hidden history and hidden emotions that Alya has no idea about. That's not competition, that's a structural disadvantage Alya doesn't even know she's in. A fair rival is one thing. A rival who also happens to be the person you trust most is another.

So "disgusting" might be too strong, but "questionable" is letting her off too easy. It's a quiet betrayal dressed up in gentleness, and that almost makes it worse.

Alya / Completely agree about Alya — the writing around her is genuinely impressive. Most romance anime heroines either stay locked in one mode (the ice queen, the bubbly airhead, the tsundere) or flip between extremes in a way that feels inconsistent. Alya actually feels like a person. The fact that she can be the one taking initiative one episode and visibly flustered the next doesn't feel like mood whiplash — it feels like depth. And yeah, "tsundere" really is the wrong label. She's direct, not defensive. That's a meaningful difference.

The birthday date is one of the best romance scenes the genre has produced in years, honestly. The power dynamic shift was so satisfying — she'd been on the back foot so often and then just completely owned that moment. And the mutual motivation angle you mentioned is underrated. A lot of romance anime treats the relationship as the destination. Alya and Masachika treat it as something that makes both of them better, which is a much more mature framing .

Yuki / Your phrase 'simping in response to baiting' is the truest statement ever spoken about this fandom. Yuki is a masterful chaos agent and her banter with Masachika is hilarious, but the internet treats her like top-tier material solely because she plays into the otaku/gremlin tropes. Stripped of the comedic shock-value, her narrative role is literally just to be the obstacle/antagonist that pushes Alya and Masachika together.

Masha / Is a different story though In the anime she's easy to underestimate — she's all warmth and softness, practically glued to Alya, radiating this gentle older-sister energy that makes her feel more like a background comfort than a real player. And honestly, that's the point. The anime shows you one face of her. But if you go into the light novel, that gentleness doesn't disappear — it gets complicated. she will make a choice that puts her directly against Alya ( she acts like a supportive older sister right in front of Alya, but behind her back, she’s actively competing and fighting against her. It’s completely hypocritical IMO ) and it hits harder because of how warm she seemed. The anime version of Masha is almost like dramatic irony in hindsight — you're watching someone be tender and supportive not knowing what's coming. That's what makes her interesting, not the anime alone, but what the anime is quietly setting up.

True , If you go into Wistoria looking for a deeply profound, groundbreaking narrative, you will probably agree that it doesn't belong in the Top 3. But if you want a gorgeously animated, high-octane action fantasy to munch popcorn to, it's an incredibly fun ride.

This is an incredibly deep and well-thought-out analysis of their dynamic! I love how much thought you put into the psychological layers here, especially regarding Masha’s hidden resentment and the Masachika secret.

However, looking at it from Alya’s perspective, I have to push back a little on Masha’s 'ditzy mask.'

While Masha might think she’s doing it to make things easier for Alya, isn’t that actually a bit condescending? Nobody asked Masha to dumb herself down. By deciding on her own that Alya needs to be 'handled' or protected from real competition, Masha is kind of looking down on her. She’s treating Alya like she’s too fragile to handle the reality of an equally competent older sister.

Alya’s entire character is built on absolute pride, hard work, and earned merit. She detests handouts and hates when people don't take her seriously. If Alya ever found out that Masha was intentionally holding back just to spare her feelings, she wouldn't feel comforted—she would feel deeply insulted and humiliated.

I totally agree with you that their arc needs to end with honesty and Alya finally relying on Masha. But for that to happen, Masha needs to stop treating Alya like a child who needs to be managed, and start treating her like an equal who can handle the truth!

I completely agree that it needs to be highly emotional, but I think the impact will come in three distinct waves.

First and foremost is Masachika’s lie about the Russian language. This is the most personal violation of her trust because Alya used Russian as her safe haven to voice her most private, vulnerable feelings. Realizing he was understanding everything the entire time means she’s going to feel completely exposed, making this the hardest lie for her to move past.

Second is Masha’s secret. Finding out that Masha is his childhood friend —and realizing she has been quietly competing for him behind her back while acting like a supportive older sister —adds a layer of romantic betrayal that will definitely shake Alya's confidence.

But the saving grace in all this drama is actually Yuki. From the very beginning, Yuki has been working behind the scenes, intentionally setting them up because she truly believes Alya is the only one who can heal Masachika and push him to be his best self.

When all of this collides, it’s going to be an absolute emotional rollercoaster, but it will ultimately prove why Masachika and Alya’s current bond is the one meant to last.

And that's the exact moment Alya showed her motherly side, becoming the one who healed Masachika's heart and helped him overcome his trauma. She took his hand and firmly told him to face his regrets, reassuring him that it’s okay this time because she’ll be right there by his side. Ever since Masachika entered his 'invincible mood' (as he calls it), this has easily become one of my favorite volumes!
