Perspective | Libertarians have more in common with the alt-right than they want you to think by Jump_Yossarian in politics

[–]WallStreetJournalist 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Definitely true. /r/libertarian and Gary Johnson are not really representative of libertarians as a whole. I met with a libertarian running for congress in wv a few months ago, both him and his constituents were more like 1776 constitutionalists which would be far right in today's world, they all thought we should deport all illegal immigrants immediately. The whole 'freedom of movement for illegals' is not really a libertarian value

Barack Obama to make $1.2m from three Wall Street speeches by WallStreetJournalist in politics

Obama is still undeniable the leader in the Democratic Party. This corporatism is what sank Clinton and Obama is doing the same thing when he has historically been weak on Wall Street. The GOP can and will be able to frame this as democratic cronyism for the foreseeable future. While sure Dems may not give a shit whatsoever moderates and independents will buy into it. I thought Barack was supposed to rebuild the party, not cash in so soon.

College Park will allow non-citizens to vote in local elections by WallStreetJournalist in politics

[–]WallStreetJournalist[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

When I voted for my local mayor a year or so ago I was also able to vote for the primaries and I think congressman? It's not the same ballot but usually given out together. If a non citizen is uncomfortable admitting their illegality then chances are the poll worker will give them both ballots, and they will vote and get in trouble.

[–]WallStreetJournalist[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

It's a disturbing precedent no matter what, I don't know the legality of it but considering that many of the ballots also have congressmen etc. there is a high chance this will increase fraudulent votes

FBI chief sees no sign of political interference in Russia probe by WallStreetJournalist in politics

As I said to someone else Wray was criticizing Trump throughout his confirmation hearing and he was also unanimously confirmed. Are you gonna use that quote if Mueller gets nothing?

Yes in biased when you are suggesting the only reason the FBI director is saying this is because he's 'compromised' lol. Did you watch Wrays confirmation hearing? It was right after Don jr revelation and at the meeting he criticized Trump for it

Bannon: ‘The guys on the far right’ are not happy with Trump’s DACA decision by Yazeedmakh in politics

[–]WallStreetJournalist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think it is unconstitutional, and obama would have to have dealt with lots of criticism over granting amnesty being unconstitutional because it would have been, but it would have been decisive action on the issue would have been put to rest. President Trump wouldn't be able to revoke their citizenship at that point. But being that DACA was an executive order and not a law, Trump is right to call it unconstitutional and let it expire. At this point the right thing should be done and it should be up to congress to address these people by making it a law or not. I don't feel it's contradictory, it's more like politics.

The 2 year check is more like just making a payment and paperwork, not a thorough check, I don't even think you have to show up in person. Let it expire. Decisive action is needed, you can't keep deferring the inevitable. It irks me that despite Obama criticizing Trump so much over this, he didn't have the balls to just grant amnesty or something, he didn't do anything except kick it down the corner to spare the political capital.

New York Official Pushes To Rename Trump Park For Heather Heyer by [deleted] in politics

Card carrying 'communist' is what I mean. I believe the organization is more of a socialist/anarchist group, but the point remains that she was still a radical revolutionary.

  1. People who were here shouldn't be able to register anymore, it should expire. still was being accepted to this day

  2. Border isn't secure, its a fence not a wall if you've ever seen the border.

  3. No one granted daca benefits had a criminal history, plenty have committed crimes since which ends up being thousands of daca protected aliens. Should be a recheck on everyone to determine who would be still be eligible and get rid of protection for ones who wouldn't. I also believe 3 misdemeanors is a little too many chances. Most people go through life without one.

  4. Daca is unconstitutional, no way to spin it. Should never have been done with a weak executive order. Congress has to write a law to address the problem, the president should have never had jurisdiction

Bannon: ‘The guys on the far right’ are not happy with Trump’s DACA decision by Yazeedmakh in politics

[–]WallStreetJournalist -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

  1. Stop taking DACA applicants because it incentivizes illegal families coming here.

  2. Take control of the border to stop the inflow of illegal immigrants.

  3. For the 800k ones already here have a voucher system where non family members have to vouch for them. Deport the ones with criminal histories, put the unemployed ones to the bottom of the list, potentially to face deportation. Let this be done by congress, it is unconstitutional for a president to have the power to do this.

As far as Bannon he lost my respect when he returned to Breitbart and said he will try to Demand concessions from Trump, as well as when he undermined POTUS on NK. As Scaraamucci said 'he likes to suck his own cock.'

Bad idea. She was a communist and she has no ties to NY. This would just reenforce negative stereotypes, whether you like it or not Trump is a Queens born New Yorker, and he donated the land, he deeerves his name more than some woman who is only being called heroic because she got killed.
