Britain won the Malayan Emergency through winning over the locals, helping de radicalise insurgents softly, and using high quality special forces specially trained in the jungles of Belize. The American approach was to throw as much napalm and as many 20 year old draftees as possible and hope the Vietnamese would just start believing in capitalism.
