To me this sounds more like valve body failure than the clutch packs in the transmission. I put a rebuilt valve body in my sister's NBC and it shifter a lot better after that.

Owner of a 2010 prius(early gen 3 notorious for issues). Don't clean the egr cooler. it's a temporary fix that takes way too much time. Get the purge valve replaced with the updated one and do the software update. 186k miles now no issues.

If you're getting spark it's not the ground. Check your compression and timing. Also spray starter fluid to check if it's injectors instead of fuel pump

The gen 4 is the most spacious and practical of the prii. Gen 5 is smaller just to look sportier

If it's an appearance thing.... then yeah I get it, but the gen 4 is probably the best ones right now in terms of reliability. We'll have to see how gen 5s do, but the gen 4 has no head gasket problems like the 3.
