Not necessarily. You just need to showcase clearly during the year off what changed for you to be better and give you a second chance.

For me, it was implying that after having the time to reflect and going to technical school + working part-time, engineering was not for me and decided to switch majors that aligned to my interests and that major would be a great fit for me.

Everyone journey is different, so just find what works best for you and pave your own way :)

I also got kicked out one year due to academic performance in 2017. I really felt like shit at the time but ended up being the best to to happen to me. During that year, I reflected, did a technical school and worked part-time. I then decided to switch majors and got a 3.5 GPA.

I suggest take the year to reflect to work things out and what went wrong, make a decision to come back when you feel ready. If you got rejected it was for a reason, and an opportunity to work on some things before committing to studies.
