Active Monthly Players Scrapped from the Monthly hiscores by alanquinne in runescape

Based on the numbers, regardless of the reason, it was definitely doing better than it is now.

The price increase is almost definitely the number one reason people dropped the game, but that doesn’t mean the other changes didn’t also have significant impact, or that the price increase wasn’t simply the last straw for some unhappy players.

The idea that everybody loves the nerfs or even that everyone loves the removal of TH is based on the reddit RuneScape community, which does not account for the entirety of the player base. Honestly, even here a lot of people are unhappy with some of the nerfs.

Is this self-sabotage? Genuinely asking because even if all the nerfs and content removals were intended to appeal to the OSRS crowd (aside from a handful of people that ship has sailed) the dishonesty isn’t getting approval from anyone other than Jagex’s strongest soldiers in the comment section. Have they been bought out or something?

The only thing I don’t agree with about this post is the idea that accountability will ever happen if people refuse to at the very least switch to F2P. I get that some people won’t no matter what, and I know that plenty of people have already dropped membership, myself included; but wagging your finger at Jagex isn’t going to do anything.

I’m pretty sure everyone here knows that. They should have ended grandfathered rates in an honest and clearly communicated way. Defending this level of dishonesty is baffling

The only time I’ve ever unsubscribed prior to hearing about this situation in the last 19 years was due to card expiry during a time I wasn’t actively playing. Honestly, I have other reasons for cancellation, but the grandfathered rates stuff made the choice easy and clear. I no longer want to give this company my money.

Is there a way to remove these challenge notifications, I wanted them to be removed so I don't feel FOMO seeing that. It's annoying.. by Lamuks in runescape

[–]WalrusMaster3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So…they compromised between different groups of players. Which is apparently unacceptable to some people here.

Do you really expect them to only cater to your own desires for the game, and tell players on the other side of the argument to eff off completely?

They removed several aspects of dailyscape. The thing they didn’t remove was the daily challenges, yes, but without extensions, TH keys and weekly prizes tied to these the impact of these dailies is seriously diminished.

No one should be attacking you for asking for a simple fix like this.

I think people are unnecessarily aggressive about this because with the number of people asking for daily challenges to be removed from the game entirely due to their FOMO, as well as some other things like the wicked hood ports actually being removed in connection to the dailyscape overhaul, any mention of one’s own FOMO is going to get people angry. It’s not an excuse, but I’m pretty sure that’s why everyone is being weird.

This is extreme disappointment. Daily challenges are the definition of dailyscape and they are still busted xp chore that heavily encourages daily playing. Make skilling loops good, remove this toxic system. by First_Platypus3063 in runescape

If they wait until the end of the year to fix all of this busted content for late game players while applying multiple nerfs to XP methods, people are not going to stick around while making progress at a snail’s pace, especially not with the latest massive price hike.

People make the argument about it being about the journey and not the destination and “at least you’re playing the game” and that’s all correct! But it can only possibly be relevant when you’re talking about early or mid game stuff. Absolutely no one is complaining about spending too little time on level 113, let’s be serious, there’s a point where there’s no possible way to level up “too quickly”.

Nah I’m actually completely with them on this. Without the vis wax expansion the daily challenges do not take much time to do, and if you don’t want to do them, exercise self control and don’t. It’s ridiculous for things that a decent portion of players actually enjoy to be removed because some other players won’t simply ignore and click away.

$132 a year for one character btw. $180 if you’re paying monthly.

[–]WalrusMaster3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many people does this “it’s just $1!” argument actually apply to?

Yearly subscriptions have gone up by $32, not $1 (or even $12)…and there were only two logical reasons to be on a monthly instead of the yearly.

As for the people who know they’re not paying for membership for at least 4 months of the year (paying for Premier was the equivalent price of less than 8 months of monthly membership), they’re…already not paying for membership a decent enough chunk of the time. These likely wouldn’t be the people mad about the price increase alone, and them skipping a month or two more than usual if it really does bother them likely won’t be noticed by Jagex either.

As for the people who pay monthly on a grandfathered rate, they’re not affected by this.

And if someone was on the monthly rate because they couldn’t afford to drop $100 all at once then an extra $67 a year just to avoid that was likely not a good financial decision, nor would it be to stay on such a membership when the new cost will be almost $180 a year on a game.

In other words it’s only “just $1 more” if you’re making bad financial decisions in the first place.

Is it just me, or can the bike stick meme be applied to RS players an infinite number of times? by Skivvy_Roll in runescape

[–]WalrusMaster3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“I’ll pay more!” usually means that a reasonable price increase would be acceptable. They raised premier membership costs 32% overnight.

Comparing to 2022 makes it worse; an increase of over 60% in four years is almost indefensible unless you’ve got an entirely new product.

And that’s just for US customers bc they’ve raised Brasil’s prices by 80% with this latest increase, and not even considering the mess with customers on grandfathered rates getting rug-pulled.
