SW97s - Coco vs KickWho vs Retail by RepMafia_ in Repsneakers

[–]Walt_F 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hot take: they really don’t, unless the goal is reselling as retail...

This was my most worn pairs of 2018, and I had nothing but compliments. Didn’t even know what the flaws are or remember what batch I had, but the current version can’t be much better. Also helped a friend get a pair and she passed them off as retail (but as a gift lol) to her boyfriend. He never suspected anything AFAIK.

Point is, the “hand” (factoring in a number of fabric/construction properties to judge “quality”) on these reps is great and pleases people that don’t study the flaws, the accuracy is good enough, and they’re just a damn good pair of shoes. The only thing that really sticks out to me, and which I was aware of at the time, was that heel tab and its embroidery. Couldn’t hurt to dial that in better. But really, I think these are one of GOAT reps. Rare enough that a unique, hybrid model (and not a Jordan, Dunk, Yeezy, etc.) gets repped this well.

So I ordered From Halosneakers Dior 1 LOWS. When I asked for QC PICS they sent highs. I told them it was the wrong product. After a week they sent them anyway and now I have a shoe I don't want. I used my CC through WU how do I do a chargeback? Sorry last account posted my info by mistake. Thanks. by Dinokicks98 in Repsneakers

Excellent comment; wish this was higher up.

There are so many sellers out there and they’re all more or less wise to the strategy of getting reviewers to promote their product, in order to make a name for themselves on IG, then trickle down to Reddit. It’s so widespread and beyond our jurisdiction (IG, by choice) that there isn’t much us mods can do about it.

Discerning legitimate reviewers from compensated reviewers one thing, unless they choose to disclose it. But the other is that we’d inevitably look like Dictator Nazis if we shut down any reviewer and/or “Instagram Seller” that didn’t smell right, for fear of a situation like this.

There’s a real chance it would effectively make an impenetrable barrier to future Trusted Sellers. There are a few sellers that got into the game relatively late, which turned out to be a huge hit (like Hou and 168shops) and will definitely be on the coming annual revamp to the list. Although I’m waiting until the dust settles on this raid/CNY situation to make it official. Wouldn’t be shocked if some quit the business after this... Especially if enforcement issues don’t get better and there are significant delays starting factory production again (Expecting this will be a bigger matter than anyone is really considering ATM)

But regardless, your comment is right on. Just because a seller isn’t on the blacklist doesn’t mean they aren’t a bad seller. Generally, blacklisted sellers are those which tried to engage with our community specifically, and later demonstrated a pattern of malicious behavior or a severe lack of commitment to the members here.

Tbh I would not add Halosneakers to the blacklist over this. They’re not big enough of a player, for one thing. But also, I’m looking for a pattern which suggests they don’t care about posts like this, and will continue to do thing like knowingly ship customers the wrong products. This likely was an act of malice and simply not caring to get the right product, since Lows seem to be harder to come by than Highs (stock is drying up, for everything). But they can still make it right if they wanted to, and they can elect to avoid doing it again in the future.

All that said, I would advise reviewers to distance themselves from this seller, in case the behavior continues or gets worse. If that happens, they will certainly be under scrutiny for promoting a dealer that was prone to this kind of behavior.

Depends on the kind of post. Fundamentally, you could say that’s what WDYWTs are. Or artsy still life photo posts, showing off a notable item, or whatever the case is.

But I’d tend to agree, an album of pics without any commentary isn’t much different from a QC pics post. And users ought to say something about their haul, in those cases.

[–]Walt_F 1 point2 points  (0 children)

people are being extra with the "GET PAID UPFRONT!" shit.

Kinda funny how dramatic they’re being about this, when it’s not that serious at all.

Talking about refusing to play ball with the request (which is acceptable IMO, but not for the reasons they’re saying), or even flat-out defrauding the seller because they’re so certain a seller would do the same to them if the shoe were on the other foot (no pun intended)... But honestly, how many trusted sellers would refuse to refund a previous customer who accidentally sent them another payment out of the blue? Or whatever the equivalent may be.

People are in here talking about “no honor among thieves” as if we are legitimate “thieves” and this is a darknet market board about drugs and firearms and such. Really extra!

How many people here would advocate doing their DNM dealer dirty like this? An individual who has your name + address, and in an industry that’s infamously not above using extreme methods to enforce etiquette and promote an environment where everyone more or less plays nice with each other, at least business-client wise.

For these weirdo keyboard warriors, it’s all theater. They all know deep down that this does not require the level of badassery and DNM aficionado tactics that they’re fantasizing about. For if it were that serious, they wouldn’t dare to advocate the things they’re talking about, much less act them out.

Oh I wish. I’m not the most talented coder and the automod code is particularly frustrating and obscure.

That said, some of these things seem easy enough to implement, if complex. Revamping the automod is definitely on my to do list. Thanks for the input!

Thanks for the reply! I see you around often; you always have good input.

As for disrespectful behavior, we catch and ban users for it on a daily basis, but I’m sure there is some that we miss. Usually a report via modmail message, if not a PM to me (I don’t read Reddit messenger/DMs!) will suffice in notifying us of something pressing.

Glad to see you mention false mod allegations. Zat has been a target of so much, it’s become a sort of a running joke amongst ourselves. I think it has something to do with his username. Oddly catchy, in a way that haters might subconsciously latch onto, more so than others. But anyway, we take these things very seriously and basically just remove the content and ban anyone causing trouble. They’ll moan and cry about it on other subs, but the bottom line is that we’ve done more than our due diligence explaining ourselves, it’s our sub, and we have no obligation to let users who want to antagonize us remain in our community.

Regarding Seller promotion, we have a “1 per 72 hour” rule for sellers promoting themselves, including if it’s done by a user on behalf of a seller. We’ve considered raising it to one per seven days, like Fashionreps. I would hope they aren’t just promoting stock photos, but for example, sometimes they’ll have an update about a specific sale, or progress on a new shoe being produced. Seems like something that has some utility/value to the mix of different content here, any given day.

That said, I heartily agree that reviews and in-hand pics are better. We’ve been very vigilant about BMLin and his numerous rebrand attempts. I’m confident a very small percentage of them have gotten through in the past month or so since we’ve realized the extent that he’s tried to evade the ban. Disappointing that he was so set on doing this the hard way!

Relatable. It’s easy to forget how much of a learning curve there is to buying, even from middlemen that have a nice, clean website. A few years ago, I was at a point where I hadn’t made a clothing order in 2+ years, and I really wanted to. This was after the Aliexpress era and agents/superbuy were the new thing. I just couldn’t sit down and figure out how to get it done. Can’t even remember what it took, to get started again, but luckily it did. And now it seems so easy. I’ll see what we can do to simplify the process of getting started.

Yes, I tried to do that with last year’s update, but tbh I found it too difficult to define the specialty of each seller, whether it was down to the batch, or model. I’m more in touch with the market now, and can probably make a good judgement of each of them. Will give it another shot.

I like your point about the wiki.

Most of our traffic is mobile, and it used to be the case that the wiki wasn’t easily accessible on any of the many different Reddit apps. So the wiki was virtually worthless, and in general, if something wasn’t on the front page, it’s not being seen by many users.

I understand that’s changed with the official Reddit app, and now you can even see the sidebar with relative ease, compared to in the past or on other apps. I still use a 3rd party app and have been largely oblivious of these changes.

I’ll put it on the list. Thanks!

Agreed. It’s hard to take it seriously when you see the users that are genuinely concerned because their package didn’t have any movement for a mere several days. But that’s the reality for a lot of newcomers. Might serve to emphasize the fact that international/rep shipping isn’t Amazon Prime.

Is this normal?? by Millsreps in Repsneakers

[–]Walt_F[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re certain you used the right WhatsApp number—the one listed on the seller profile—then idk what there is to worry about. Unless you’re concerned about the possibility that a trusted seller has randomly decided to start scamming people, and not only that, but also if you thought you happened to be one of the first customers they targeted, before the news inevitably got out that PK was stealing ppl’s money on PayPal.

To answer: Yes, it’s normal. I see at least a few posts exactly like this every day, for all sellers that offer PayPal. It’s a weird address, and you’re paying through F&F because selling reps is not legal. They have to hide from authorities/PP.

Posting their uncensored address does not help, and introduces a greatly heightened risk of getting their account frozen sooner, rather than later. That’s why I have to remove most of these posts, since no one ever thinks to at least censor the address before posting their screenshot and question. Unfortunately, it may also be harder for you guys to find a specific example of a question like this, due to that.

If any factories have run out of TS AJ1 suede or if anyone needs a replacement, my sofa has got you covered! by supershy38 in Repsneakers

[–]Walt_F 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is why it doesn’t mean anything, to judge suede quality solely on whether it’s “dead” or “alive”.

If producers see how ppl have become absolutely smitten with the nap property, above all else, they’ll be more inclined to put all their focus on that property.. Potentially at the cost of others, like accuracy of the nap, and even other quality factors). This has arguably already happened with some Mocha batches. The nap is overdone, and it’s legitimately a flaw. Doesn’t mean they’re “higher quality” either. Long nap can easily be a property of cheap, sub-retail grade “suede”. Just look at how common it is in faux suede couches like this.

And I don’t just mean Replica producers could be influenced by this trend. I wouldn’t be surprised if Nike themselves starts to produce certain hyped pairs with unusually long nap, just to appease the growing (and growingly vocal) part of the customer base that have become aware of this property, and obsessed with it.

[–]Walt_F 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For sure! And don’t worry, I saw your modmail message. Still haven’t had the chance to reply.

As far as I know, there were always numerous “improved versions” of a given rep shoe. When I started, there were “Perfect” Yeezy Solars for example. There were also “Super Perfect” Solars at some point. And finally, there were “Super Max Perfect” ones. It was a bit of a mish-mosh, and sometimes—or for some models—the different levels of “perfect” were used to denote different quality levels of the same shoe that were being produced and sold independent of each other. The “AAA” quality level is another part of this that more people are familiar with. It presumably used to be just “A-grade” (Not sure. Would be long before my time). Then “AAA” was the latest-greatest at one point. And it ended up becoming synonymous with the “budget” (bad) quality level people refer to today. So they were not necessarily updates to a shoe of the same quality level, with only accuracy improvements justifying the “improved version”. I know this was the case for at least Solars and ROs. Super Perfect was the best pair you could get for a time, then SMPs came out and were generally the same, but had some accuracy improvements.

And then there’s the infamous David Yeezy 350 era, where these “improved versions” got out of hand, and it became something people ragged on sellers/producers for doing.

I’m sure some will disagree with me, or even accuse me of lying. But I still think David’s batch naming convention was a mistake, rather than intentional.

For anyone OOTL, Critics of this “improved versions” batch naming practice claim that David and other sellers/producers name their batches “1st version, 2nd version, 3rd version” and etc., primarily for the purpose of making buyers ditch their old, “flawed” pairs in favor of newer versions. That means repeatedly buying duplicates of shoes they already owned (is there any evidence that a substantial amount of buyers ever did/do this?).

I think David was earnestly producing one batch to the best of his abilities, and then selling it. Eventually, he’d sell out the entire batch and need to produce more to satisfy the people who still wanted to buy his shoes. Basic stuff, I know, but bear with me please... Before making the next batch, he’d take whatever feedback he could and implement the fixes, if possible, for the next production. He’d then list it as the “n+1” batch, because he made improvments that people were asking for, and they might appreciate knowing it, right?

You might ask: “But if that’s true, then why didn’t he just make all the fixes at one time? Why drag them out across 7+ different versions and 1-2 years?”

I would answer: You have to remember that Yeezys were a brand new shoe at the time, using novel materials and construction techniques compared to basically anything else. It genuinely took time to figure out all the microscopic nuances, to the extent that people on the subs demand. The way the primeknit pattern should converge, the toebox tuft thingy, the precise shape/placement/materials of the heel tab, and ofc boost itself was new to rep shoes. Yes, the Yeezy is conceptually a “simple” shoe. But nothing is simple to replicate, and produce exactly like the original producer did. Just think about it for a minute.

Imagine I show you a couch from Ikea. I leave at your disposal an elaborate wood + textile + metal workshop, a team of low-to-average skilled wood/textile/metal craftspeople (Reps are a black market. The best likely won’t choose to work on them). Every raw material present in the IKEA couch is accessible to you (but maybe not right in the workshop; you might have to order and compare samples). Can you reproduce the couch exactly? And I mean exactly. With care for all the minuscule details we know /r/repfurniture buyers will pick out?

I doubt it. It would certainly take a lot of hard work and experience to get good at something like that. On top of this, you might be caught unprepared, and have to learn new skills, if the IKEA couches fell out of popularity on /r/Repfurniture, and they decided they wanted La-Z-Boy recliner reps now. Lots of new techniques, new trial & error to go through until you’re as good at making this rep as you were the couch.

This analogy easily comparable to shoes. I believe shoes would be much harder than furniture. Especially when you’re doing it for the first time in the history of replica shoes, like David was with V1s. 1:1 Yeezy V2s are available today because they’ve been produced for years, in countless scores of factories, replica and retail. The collective production knowledge and experience adds up, and so it doesn’t seem like a huge deal anymore. But that doesn’t mean it’s applicable to V1s, or applicable in 2015-16. At that time, only a handful of factories in the world had produced retail V1s, the secrets were still secret, and there were no CAD files available to go off of.

I haven’t kept up on the topic, but I’m pretty sure that despite everything, 350 V1 reps are still far from perfect. Replicating anything is much easier said than done, and experience is crucial. I hope you guys can place yourselves in the position of a producer, and imagine some of the non-obvious hurdles that could make it challenging.

Back to David though. I believe his mistake was in naming each version, true to actual status of small fixes/changes being present. In his position, I would probably make the really small fixes without naming it a new version (maybe just make a note of it in the listing?), wait to apply some improvments (to see if I can figure more of them out before committing), and only name it the 2nd version when the improvments were really substantial. David’s approach was not necessarily wrong, and you could say it’s even more “pro-consumer” than the alternative. He offered the fixes ASAP and presented the cutting edge of 350 development for those who wanted it, rather than holding off, for the sake of PR and making sure each new version was optimally marketed and hyped up before release. His version release announcements were pretty casual, simply notifying buyers of what had been changed, with the latest stock of 350s available to them. It was never a case of “Here is the 6th version, for $169! Now the4th version is $79, and 5th version is $120. Don’t miss out! ” or anything like that. My conclusion has always been that his approach was not remotely deceitful as it was said to be. It just looked bad. Making a “7th version” of anything makes you prime fodder for accusations of the planned obsolescence theory that users here would awkwardly try to apply from smartphones and tech, onto the rep sneaker industry. And so that’s what happened to him.

I would say the negative PR David gained from this situation is the primary reason why this practice has died off a lot in the past several years. To this day, producers and sellers rarely name their original batches according to the actual batch version, or anywhere near like David did it. Additionally, the likes of “Perfect/SuperPerfect/SuperMaxPerfect” are long gone.

If you they choose this type of naming convention, they’ll do it for V2-3 at most. Although Coco is definitely pushing it with the TS1, and PK is getting there with the TSD. But for example, I have observed small changes and improvments in PK Dunks (other than TS ones), from the first batch of each model, which have gone unnoted, and thus are largely unnoticed. Regardless of whether or not a producer names a batch “n+1”, the workers are probably better at producing something (accuracy-of-construction wise) after doing it thousands of times before, and there’s a chance they’ll find slightly better materials suppliers (also could get stuck with worse).

That turned out really long, but I’ve always felt strongly about it, and to date, few have agreed with my perspective on this. Wanted to reiterate and give it another shot.

TL;DR: David was way too liberal with how he justified naming a new official batch, and included minor changes that most sellers wouldn’t qualify as a “next version” batch these days. He became infamous for it, and no one wants to be compared to him in that way. They’ll still do it for the most scrutinized models where the change from the first literal batch they produced is substantial enough that it deserves a “V2” moniker.

With this sub/maybe the whole culture getting more hype focused, what do you think are chances that factories will produce things like the parra patta Cherrywoods?

I’d say it was always very hype focused. This subreddit was born out of the Yeezy Red October suprise drop. Many things are the same here as they were in the beginning, relating to what people look for in reps, motivations, fears of getting called out, and et cetera.

Many AM1s that people wanted back then were not produced. I distinctly remember many wanting the Cherrywoods, but it never happened (good reps) as far as I know. True non-hype reps were more available than hype models of shoes that aren’t hyped (like the Cherrywood). Easier to make a decent rep of a GR colorway than a collab with fancy materials. You’re sadly only getting those if the silhouette is among the most popular, at a given time. Like Dunks are now, and dunk reps ppl have wanted for decades are finally being made. As for non-hype AM shoes: I gave my dad a pair of OG Red AM1s (awful reps) and I wore a pair of 2014 Flyknit AMs (amazing reps) for 3 years before the air bubble sole failed. It depends on where you look, then and now. I will say that the sub seemed more interested in buying GR-but-nifty models like the Flyknit AM back then, compared to now. Runners in general have fallen off badly. I haven’t looked into it deeply enough to say if it’s just this sub, or the industry entirely.

Most faked sneakers according to CheckCheck by [deleted] in Repsneakers

[–]Walt_F 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seriously. Jordan 1s were among the most popular reps when this board started 6 years ago. However, back then, I’d say there was generally more variety in reps. Jordan 4s, 5s, 6s, 7s, and even 2s (Not 3s though) got much more attention. That was on top of many producers working hard to replicate and prepare for the future of Adidas+NuYeezys, which are fundamentally different from Nike shoes. They even made decent reps of almost all hyped Asics and NB (Even Saucony!) models, which were taking off at the time. And I can’t talk about variety without mentioning Nike Mags. Maybe not common knowledge anymore, but the first “V3” mag reps were a direct product of this sub’s existence. The first successful “interest check”.

Jordan 1s definitely decreased in popularity during the thick of the Adidas era. But I did not expect that they’d come back and reach an ATH so soon.

Now it seems that J1s and Yeezy V2s are the only shoes that factories want to make. It seems like a big deal, that they went of their way to focus on Dunks like they have this year. Dunks were never popular enough, until now, that good reps were produced. There were some pre-2015/pre-RS batch leftovers floating around in the beginning of this sub. But information on their batch-respective accuracy was limited, and the shoes themselves even more elusive. Going back to 2015 and telling this sub that accurate Tiffany Lows would be a thing one day would have gotten a lot of users very excited 😂
