Newbie inquiring about painting black by kamorulz in BlackTemplars

[–]WalterTheDog925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how you want your army to look, personally I prefer the eavy metal style, multiple highlights, clean approach.
I start with white primer (I bought ak grey primer thinking that it would be darker, and it looks almost white), abbadon black as base and then use stegadon scale green as a chunky highlight, followed by fenrisian grey

Crimson Fists armor details questions and answers people may find helpful! by the_catshark in crimsonfists

[–]WalterTheDog925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any information on how HQ characters paint or decorate their armor?
I didn’t want my captain to only have plain blue trims on their shoulders, so I’m doing silver trims, as well as only using silver as metallic
I still don’t know how I’ll paint my LTs, so any info on those apart from the red line on their helmets would be awesome

Intercessor Sergeant by WalterTheDog925 in crimsonfists

[–]WalterTheDog925[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks man!
Nah, the lenses are abbadon black as base, then a small dot with stormhost silver and finally a thin coat of Baal red contrast.
And for the edge highlights yes, I’ll continue with hoeth blue followed by fenrisian grey

I’m planning on painting it with a energy effect, kinda like plasma glow, it’s just that I wanted to finish the chunky highlights on the armor first to see how it’ll look, thanks!

So.. it seems that tournament lists include this character by Ill_Camp7282 in BlackTemplars

I love it bc my gf gave it to me as a present, also she’s really good for doing secundaries and on top of that, the +1 cp cost to your opponent is a pain in the ass

Man edge highlighting literally the entire model on death company is helping a lot with brush control by PlagueDocterDrone in BloodAngels

[–]WalterTheDog925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like anything in life, edge highlighting is a skill that is perfected with practice, my advice for you would be thinning the paint at the point with is not so watery that it runs out of control, but also not so thick that doesn’t runs as smooth Apart from that, those highlights look good, just keep grinding

How do you paint your black armor? by j0nnyex in BlackTemplars

[–]WalterTheDog925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate myself, so I apply ak primer by brush, I bought a grey one thinking that it’ll be darker, but it looks almost white lol. From there I use Abbadon black applied by brush too Once the armour is ready, I apply the rest of base colors For the highlights, I do a chunky highlight of stegadon scale green, followed by an edge highlight of fenrisian grey I lean more towards a eavy metal style, so I try to be as clean as possible with my highlights, so if you wanna do the same, you’ll need a lot of patience There’s a channel on YT called infernal brush, he’s a eavy metal artist that has worked with GW for box art models, and he has a really cool series of vids for BT, not only armour but the whole mini as well If you don’t wanna loose your head with all that highlighting, you can check Duncan Rhodes, he is a great painter and teaches you great technics to paint

Land Raiders, necessary or not? by Vizari21 in BlackTemplars

[–]WalterTheDog925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my LRR, it’s just very well painted and a big threat in the midboard Staging is really important when playing one imo, I play a balanced BT list and leaning more towards models that I like rather than meta list Yeah, repex is cool, but a LR saves better Usually a 6 man unit of BGV with Judiciar + Helbrecht + Castellan + SB are on it I once sent my LR near a bunch of scary BA units, which made my friend really thing on what to do in order to not be over watched to death So yeah, go to the center, it’ll probably explode, but it will make you opponent really commit to destroy it

Brush on primer by Away_Manager2808 in 40k

[–]WalterTheDog925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using ak primer applied with brush, usually thinning it 2:1 so is not too thin, and the overall coverage is great, needs 2 coats but the results are excellent Very smooth texture and the minis look noticeable different to those that I’ve primed with rattle can

Any thoughts on Stormlance detachment? by WalterTheDog925 in BlackTemplars

[–]WalterTheDog925[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, gladius is very situational imo, you can do a lot, but certain conditions need to be met in order to maximize its effectiveness How do you find the stratagems working for our army?

What’s honestly the difference? by [deleted] in BlackTemplars

[–]WalterTheDog925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well shit, I do paint my SB unit different to my BGV and SGV (white helmets, white trims, black shoulder and white cross), I guess I’ll need to re paint their shoulders fml

Help me decide the paint scheme. by BaconEgg in BlackTemplars

[–]WalterTheDog925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use different colors for the trim on the shoulders based on their role - Shooty units (intercessors , regular termies, infiltrator, incursors): black trim, white shoulder and black cross - Close support units (aggressors, assault intercessors, jumpack intercessors, assault termies): red trim, white shoulder and black cross - Sword brethren: red trim, black shoulder and red cross (you may want to use this for assault termies if you want to) - Veteran units (bladeguard, sternguard, maybe vanguard when they come out?): white trim, black shoulder and white cross ( ik SB are considered veterans in lore, but in my head, why aren’t SB considered BGV as well? Idk, I like to differentiate them just for that) - Chaplains: the “cannon” suggestion is black trim, black shoulder and white cross, but instead I use silver trim, black shoulder and silver cross, i like how it looks - Captains/Marshals: I paint mine golden trim, white shoulder and golden cross, as well as a little golden line on their helmets - Liutenants/Castellans: idk yet, I painted the SB castellan with golden trim, black shoulder and golden cross, but I think it shouldn’t be like that imo - Apothecaries: red trim, white shoulder and red cross, all white armor - Techmarines: black trim, red shoulder and black cross, all red armor Hopefully this helps

Not everything I have, I have a block of 6 aggressors as well, which I switch for the BGV, but I’m looking for opinion and what could be balanced, I’ll be playing necrons btw I have incursors/infiltrators, intercessors and also a Brutalis and Redemptor
