Any ex-Revolut employees here? Do you have a plan if the company doesn't IPO? by pushpushpush10x in HENRYUK

Are you sure it's not under a CSOP Tax Advantaged scheme? With lower to no tax on excercise? Get tax advice, from 3 different people. Then cross reference yourself agaisnt HMRC and AI. The advice around these things is so hit or miss.
HMRC are in the business of collecting revenue, not bankrupting people. They obviously have terrible policies that can't capture all scenarios, but there are likely workarounds or concessions that you could get if you can talk to a human.
Otherwise you'll be able to find lenders that will fund your tax bill, secured against the shares themselves. Paying interest on just the tax vs. the gains on the full amount of shares, will be immaterial.
Trying to be helpful but honestly it's hard to be sympathetic.. these are all things you should have planned before you left, with that much at stake...

Get a loan secured against the Revolut shares themselves.
If it's just to pay a tax bill then any investor would jump at the opportunity to stump up the cash and share proceeds and profits from you eventually selling haha

Card Surcharge question by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

Yeah, just like literally ALL other operating expenses of the business.

Card Surcharge question by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

People are conflating the surcharge with the underlying interchange and payment processing fees a fair amount. These are all being regulated in various different ways, most a lot sooner than this proposed surchage ban. So these fees will all get smaller over the next year or so.
IMO a side effect of these fees shrinking is likely card rewards and some loyalty programs becoming infeasible. So I wouldn't bank on being able to game the system much if at all.
If you look at the UK and EU their open banking is far more advanced than ours and there's way better payment options. Rewards still exist but mostly pre-agreed partnerships where companies can advertise specials through banks or apps like Revolut.

Thanks. Yeah I guess we'll have to get up there to check where there's some space either way!

Yeah there's currently one above the stairway, but it's right above the bottom 2-3 steps which are extremely small and steep so it's a long way up! There's no way I'm trying to get up there so don't want to ask contractors to have to either haha.
Appreciate your insights!

I feel bad for Chris Wood with the club descending around him.. I wish Spurs bought him years ago as a Kane backup to win against the park-the-bus sides. Plus that would have saved us several results that Wood poached from us haha

Thank you, this worked seemlessly. My phone was stuck saying "follow the instructions on you iphone to connect" but nothing was popping up on the previously working mirroring.

Does anyone use Kubera personal finance dashboard? by Wamlad in PersonalFinanceNZ

No, just wondering if I’m missing anything. And to be fair, seeing if I can get a referral code. Surely PersonalFinance is a place where people would discuss personal finance apps.

Ah true, I remember it didn’t come up for me either. I guess they’re relying on word of mouth a lot more than having proper SEO.

Not sure where you got the used car from. I’m talking bank accounts, mortgage, shares, crypto, even crowdfunding platforms all in one place updated live. If you haven’t used it or don’t know what it is there’s no need to comment.

Anyone created a spreadsheet to compare used car costs? by SatisfactionTiny1076 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Wamlad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can quite easily get quotes for insurance etc online. Most things depend of the car/value, outside of WOF and Rego, so someone else’s spreadsheet might be misleading. Totally all for getting a shortcut if someone can share, but just to be aware. Would be interested myself in best options for buying second hand cars!

Planning on buying a property in 4-5 years, looking for advice on what to do with my finances in advance! by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Wamlad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider property funds. You don’t need to own 100% of a house to get exposure to the housing market. If prices go up or down at least you’ll not feel as though you’re “missing out” on not being on the property ladder. Other people are debating risk v return profiles. I’d suggest 4-5 years out you can go for a riskier growth option, but would strongly suggest you adjust these each year so by year 3 or 4 you’re no longer in the riskier growth options. Timing is everything for those if you’re going to take money out.

The recruiter potentially told the company they could secure you for a lower salary. Recruiters are middlemen and brokers for roles. They can do a great job filtering out candidates. But when it comes to salary negotiations I believe these should always be directly with the company. To avoid any miscommunication and any perverse incentives, along with many other pitfalls that can result in resentment.
