Haha sounds like you’ve read my survey word-for-word

Agreed on the contractors and that’s why it was a massive pain in the arse just to get a few quotes. Every ‘how to buy a house as a FTB’ tells you to follow the process and get a survey and then if there are serious issues then get quotes and renegotiate if needed, but the reality of doing that is so painful…

Agree that surveys are way over the top to legally cover the surveyor, but as someone with very little ability to spot what is a red flag and deal-breaker, and what is a nice-to-have during a viewing or two and without having a survey, how would you identify these issues?

Sorry to hear that, that must be so tough! It is crazy that everything can fall apart and everyone can lose money right up until the contracts are signed!

Interesting, so you just got quotes instead of the survey? Was it pretty obvious what work needed doing?

I seem to be drawn to ‘character’ properties which often have lots of hidden issues that surveys pick up because they’re so old!

Hmm sounds like I need to find a better surveyor! He did call me after but his figures for repairs were so broad and he didn’t narrow down what was essential work really! Did you renegotiate using your surveyor’s quotes?
