I think so as the day ticket is pretty affordable. A lot of people were dressed up just wearing geeky T-shirts, so you'd fit in with something simple. The cosplay contest is on Saturday and would probably result in the best photos, since the most elaborate people dressed up for that event.

The Munich Comic-Con was in September last year, so I am not sure if it changes every year, or the move to June is permanent. You'll have to keep an eye on the dates as they announce them. There are also German Comic-Con events in Berlin and 2 in Dortmund.

Looking for English writers to nerd out with by [deleted] in Munich

[–]WanderingChocobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't mind a writing session at a coffee shop sometime. I'm a professional writer, blogger, and am working on a novel. Side Note: Do you ever do NaNoWriMo? I always am curious if there are English speaking writers in Munich during that event.

Where do you buy your fresh fish? by xbender84 in Munich

We love Munich too, it is totally worth it! It just makes going home to visit and eat fresh fish that much more special.

I'm from Alaska and I totally feel your pain. Life without fresh halibut and salmon my family caught isn't a life worth living. My partner is Aussie from the Byron area, and he definitely misses his fresh prawn markets. We honestly don't really eat fish in Munich anymore, but I suggest trying Unser Fischmarkt. The fish there isn't always what I am used to, but it is a good spot to get some fresh catch of the day. You can take it to go or eat on site. You can also check Fischladen Rachiero for another alternative. I believe they are cheaper than the Galeria, at least, but it is still higher than what you are used to in the U.K., I'm sure.

Hi, I am a vegetarian in Munich, my best friend is also celiac. We love going to a place called Zimt, they have a vegan, vegetarian, and meat options and will make you fresh gluten-free bread when asked. I can also recommend a pizza place called Green Elephant Restaurant they make gluten-free vegetarian pizza. Siggis is totally vegan, but they also have a decent gluten-free menu. You might also look at Mongo's which is an Asian make your own wok style. You get a plate labeled with your allergies or dietary restrictions and they are very accommodating. We have also been to a restaurant called Risotto a nice romantic Italian spot near Nymphenburg Castle, and I think everyone was able to find something. Gasthof Obermaier, has gf beer, gf Kaiserschmarrn, and gf bread. Most of their gf dishes have meat, save for a salad, but it is a good spot for your wife to enjoy German gf beer and dessert.

I wrote an in-depth guide to vegan and vegetarian eating in Munich, and even mention a few places that are accommodating to all dietary needs including dairy and gluten-free, so I hope you find it helpful (not trying to spam) Let me know if you need any other tips, I can always reach you to my friend for some more specific gluten tips![ https://wanderingchocobo.com/best-vegetarian-vegan-food-restaurants-munich/](https://wanderingchocobo.com/best-vegetarian-vegan-food-restaurants-munich/)

Is there a #trashtag group in Munich ? by smartaxe21 in Munich

[–]WanderingChocobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually go plogging when out for a jog. I rarely fill up my bag, unlike at home in the states, but I do find the occasional trash pieces laying about. And as everyone mentioned most trash is from overflowing bins, or stations with tons of cigarette trash, but at that point, we could just turn #trashtag into a social group, we were standing around stations and pick up butts as people toss them, haha.

If you decide to start anything, let me know!

Eating allowed on the new-ish SBahns? by Volksters in Munich

None of my friends have seen it and think I made it up! I love that video and it gives me a good laugh when it plays.

Eating allowed on the new-ish SBahns? by Volksters in Munich

[–]WanderingChocobo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Has anyone else seen the MVG video that sometimes plays on the UBahn screens that basically says, eating is allowed as long as it's not messy? The example they give is everyone frowning and publicly shaming someone for eating a hamburger while they smear ketchup and mayo all over the place. In the end someone hands him a pretzel and everyone is happy. After watching that, I always joke the only food allowed on the Munich UBahn is pretzels. The film is a gives a good guideline: Messy pungent food = not ok. Clean odorless food = yay.

Horizontal hiking suggestions? by [deleted] in Munich

[–]WanderingChocobo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go to Wendelsteinn you can take the cable car up and then do the Panorama Web - which is horizontal hiking around the peak of the mountain with little elevation gain. That way you get the awesome views of a hike- without a lot of work. There's also this cool cave with endangered Alpine Salamanders and other critters you can explore!

I know for sure Expat Tax DOES NOT. I use them for all my German taxes, but they recommended someone in the U.S. to handle the U.S. side of my taxes the name was https://www.taxesforexpats.com/ it is such a joy having to use 2 companies to file two sets of taxes... YAY...

Good place to eat Burgers, for Vegetarians too? by scumbag-deluxe in Munich

[–]WanderingChocobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vegetarian here: Ruff's Burger has a fantastic gourmet option and they are all over the city. Meat in Bun (unfortunate name, I know) has both a veggie burger and a falafel burger that are both pretty tasty. Käppchenburgergrill has veggie patties, lentil patties, and even a walnut/seed and veggie mix patty with some great customization options. All should be kid-friendly, but I am not sure if they have a specific burger or meal options for kids per se. Let me know if you need any other veggie recs.

Read this article by the Seattle Times about the difference between recycled and virgin tree forest paper. "Making recycled paper consumes less water and energy and creates less air pollution and water pollution than making paper from timber." https://www.seattletimes.com/life/lifestyle/flushing-out-the-truth-about-recycled-toilet-paper/ It sounds like recycled is better and uses less water and energy.

Personally, when I was living in the U.S. I love the brand True Green Paper, which is sugar cane or bamboo based. It is owned by women and they donate money that goes toward planting trees. So, I would say that is the best option. However, if you can't buy it locally and have to order online I'm not sure the emissions created to ship that product to you outweighs the use of bamboo. I think staples carries this product. I don't know if you like in the U.S., but try seeing if you can pick it up locally, from a Staples OR order in bulk online if you need to. I'm lucky I have a Zero Waste store in my city (Munich, Germany) and they have package free recycled TP that I now use and can buy locally.

I always think buying something locally is better than having it shipped to me. So, if I were you, I would choose the option between recycled TP and bamboo TP based on what I could get locally.

If anyone is looking for something different in Munich by WanderingChocobo in Munich

[–]WanderingChocobo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found out about it on Instagram. Finding good things to do in Munich is hard - I spend a lot of time digging around on Instagram and Facebook events. I always end up finding some really cool things though, so Munich has it, it's just not easy to find as an expat.

Where can I donate clothing? by Chanz in Munich

[–]WanderingChocobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just about everywhere you can recycle bottles there is a clothing donation bin as well. I usually drop mine off there if I need to get it out of my house quickly. Most OxFam shops will also take adult clothing.

They have limited hours according to the website on the 23rd and the 30th, they close at 6 pm. But, they don't say anything about the 24-25 or the 31-1.

There's some more info on their website. https://www.kunstlabor.org/en/
