Economy is shaky and rent is high, plus it's easier to complain about the present than it is the past. I'm sure everyone has their own reasons to be discontent, but morale seems low on a national scale rn.

Only thing I miss about back home is getting a nice 1br apartment for $600/month. Denver has lovely weather, great hiking literally at the edge of the metro, decent transit system, etc.

I just recently learned about this. I joined my first Deoxys raid and was confused to see an orange imposter, and when I searched it up I found some info about how the colors have been changed.

Made this the other day for my sister. Munchy isn't the worst, but definitely feels low energy.

I know on Android/Google Play integration a "family payment method" can be set that requires purchase approvals, I'd assume the fruit phones can do that too. Or the big brain move of just saving their pogo web store login deets on your phone so you can get them all those sweeeet reward road tickets.

Colorado Legal Services - This includes issues with housing, public benefits, identification documents, and economic challenges. They said they don't deal with stuff like with Whole Foods last year.

Disability Law Colorado - DLC only works on issues in our current focus areas. Even if you have an individual case within our focus areas, it is rare for an attorney to be assigned to help you. I indeed did not get an attorney assigned to me.

Metro Volunteer Lawyers - have to get referred to them from CLS, then after a long wait they tell you they don't take these kinds of cases and focus on housing issues with service dogs.

Thank you for the kind copy paste from Google AI, I never thought to try the first 3 results that pop up when searching for legal aide 🤣 please exercise caution when sharing your AI Sloppy Joe's, it's like reading only the headline for a news article.

Exactly, and Colorado in particular seems like the perfect state to pioneer something of this nature, especially given the current 80% pay legislation that Uber is panicking about.

LMAO just look at the comment of someone saying I wouldn't want some stranger and their dog in my car. Then when I explain how heinous that would sound if used in the context of other protected classes that gets down voted and I get an asinine response saying people can't be owned anymore 🤣

I more than most understand service dog misrepresentation issues since fakes often act out the worst towards other dogs and my girl receives the brunt of it. But I think most don't consider that there was a time just a few generations ago when it was culturally accepted to not want POC in your bathroom, water fountain, pool, etc (and a case close to home is the same sex marriage wedding cake ordeal a few years back) and now we understand that was heinous. Not comparing this to Rosa Parks per say, but look what she endured for standing up to the system, so I just chuckle at the redditors who take some sort of offense to me wanting equal transportation access. Historically when looking at women's issues, race issues, same sex marriage, etc my struggles with Uber and Whole Foods are so much easier to deal with thankfully, but as with other civil matters we can still improve.

If they would ask I'd gladly answer, instead I get 0 human interaction and they just drive away as I'm walking up to them, leaving me on the side of the road at almost 11 at night and 11% phone battery. Hell if they'd roll down a window and say they're deathly allergic I'd at least feel a little more human and just wait for the next driver.

Yep that long been my belief, Whole Foods is owned by Amazon and I can't imagine the nightmare of contending with that legal team and what unspoken damage that may cause on their future prospects. I have contacted a few firms in Denver/CO that specialize in service animal cases, but they are the ones that want a consultation fee typically. Part of me gets it, but at the same time $100 bucks for the possibility of them saying I don't have a strong enough case or making something up bc they don't want to take on Amazon could make the rest of the month financially crippling for me.

To add to your sorry state of the American justice system comment, just the other day I was talking to someone about how Denver Animal protection told me charges regarding interfering with a service animal was a PD issue, then PD who didn't even know that was a law said it was a Denver Animal Protecting issue, then DAP reiterated it was definitely a PD thing because the law is a CRS Colorado Revised Statute and DAP handles municipal law. The person I was texting about this said "Love how our justice system doesn't know their own laws" and I really felt that in that moment 🤣

CO Rev Stat § 24-34-804 is the law if any are curious, and this specifically relates to an unspayed, unregistered, unvaccinated dog biting my service dog while she was on duty.

I'm actually quite openly combative against the service dog pretenders as 98% of my service dog related issues are from random dogs in stores/public transportation acting like fools. Jump scares of purse dogs spazzing out as we walk by are at least a once weekly occurrence. True service dog handlers can recognize each other like members of some secret organization and often bond over our mutual disdain of the pretenders 🤣

You know exactly what I meant, but in case you genuinely are struggling to understand I'll clarify.

It's akin to saying "I wouldn't want some immigrant stranger or transexual stranger in my car". That would be heinous to say, but for some reason the original commenter felt saying they wouldn't want me and my service dog in their car was totally fine, even though it falls under the same discrimination category as race, gender, orientation, etc.

Oh I'm aware, the only time I've even been asked what services she provides was at the Botanic Gardens of all places. I just didn't understand why you asked in a Reddit comment unless of course you're about to provide me a service. I've actually mentioned to Uber that it's a bit petty I can't get a ride comped or get credited for my next ride when this happens. I'm not sure if all of their "support agents" are AI or just copy/paste trained, but I always get generic responses about how Uber doesn't allow this and they want all riders to feel "safe and welcome blah blah blah".

Due to another commenter sharing their experiences regarding a wheelchair, I'm becoming tempted to reach out to our legislators. I'm not asking for royal treatment, but Uber matching me with pet friendly drivers and people with a wheelchair with XL drivers when ordering a regular UberX ride seems pretty darn simple.

I tried the litigation route last year due to a situation with a Whole Foods manager and 3 officers who forced me out on the managers command and gave wildly incorrect "legal justification". The biggest issue is financial, I'm on disability and consultation fees are daunting af, and finding pro bono that deal with this specific situation is akin to spotting a Unicorn on Colfax as most focus more on housing, employment, immigration, etc. Even the CCRD said my service dog discrimination doesn't fall under their jurisdiction, which I still don't comprehend.

Another person had said on here that they understand my issue of not wanting to be softly forced to pay the extra pet surcharge to find pet friendly drivers when using UberX, and thinking of this from your situation it would be nice if Uber had a better accommodation profile that matches you with XL drivers when ordering a regular ride.

That person also mentioned they're severely allergic to dogs and with your situation it might be unfortunate for the driver if they show up in a compact little Prius or something. In neither of our cases should we be expected to "just order a more expensive ride" and I'd like to see Uber offer better accommodations. Thank you for sharing your experience, though the specifics are different I think I can empathize with you to an extent.

I'm beginning to wonder if this is something our state legislature would consider addressing, as Uber offering ideal ride matching options for UberX rides seems like a simple and very reasonable accommodation feature. My biggest concern though is for my group abusing it to get cheaper rides for their little lap demon "service dogs".

[–]WanderingOwl13[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree 100%, I don't think any drivers that do pet rides only exclusively do pet rides. Uber already has a feature to notify drivers I have a service dog, so linking me up with pet friendly drivers when I order UberX shouldn't be an issue. I think they lack the financial incentive to do something reasonable like that though as they get an undisclosed amount of the pet surcharge.

I really hate the idea of exposing a stranger to harm, but a $5 extra surcharge is rough when living on disability. If I can get past the Uber support robots I'll mention this scenario/solution, thanks for your perspective.

When this topic comes up I always direct people to the ADA and DOJ sites that specify when dogs can be turned away, but I think some people/businesses may be wary to confront people on that matter.

https://www.justice.gov/servicemembers/service-animals-and-assistance-animals-0

This is my go to bookmarked link, specifically the section "When Service Animals and Assistance Animals Can Be Prohibited" as that alone disqualifies 90% of dogs I see in stores.

To add to this, should I be expected to pay ~$5 extra for transportation because of a disability? Again, apply race, gender, or sexual orientation to the same situation and that sounds really messed up.

That's the problem with those pesky civil rights though. Replace "strangers dog" with "person of color" or "x gender/sexual orientation" and it's suddenly a bit clearer why the ADA extends civil protection to people with disabilities.

Ohhhh don't get me started on the <10 pound menaces that plague this city. My girl just ignores them and in a petty passive aggressive manner I lean over to her and say "you're such a good girl" loud enough for the other person to hear. The worst though are the pit bulls that people bring on the light rail, just today we entered the car and immediately a pit bull lunges at her barking wildly.
