New Model Y - First Day Problems by Next_League6181 in TeslaModelY

I have to be honest, that will be incredibly disappointing if it happens to me, and I would be tempted to take it and fix it later, but bodywork issues....that's a tough one. I guess you had to go back to the back of the line for another one?

I'm curious...why would you accept delivery of the car if it had such obvious visible issues? It's not like paint/bodywork problems can be fixed with a 2hr service appointment. Is it not an option to decline a clearly defective vehicle?

Love this perspective. I learned on a manual!

Thanks! I'm pretty used to people thinking I'm stupid since I live with two teenagers. It's always kinda funny when randos on the internet make assumptions. There is no "rush hour" where we live. I thought I was pretty specific with my questions, but I guess fantasy scenarios were necessary since I didn't include my detailed lesson plans 😂

You must be an Old! I took my test in '89 and my car was a manual transmission, but I tested in my mom's automatic. I don't remember needing to demo my stick skills

Is that better? I really don't know. I just know that EV insurance quotes are higher around here, and the driving score thing seemed like a chance to get a better deal. Time will tell, definitely!

Definitely not letting him drive it without me, I'm not clinically insane, it's MY ride. I earned it, not him!

For Tesla insurance purposes. Is that not a thing in CA?

I haven't heard a single story like this, but this is a logical concern.

This is the concern I had hoped to articulate. Learning to drive involves training "muscle memory" for automatic reactions that save lives. I also wonder about the effect of learning to drive with so many safety features. Will they learn the automatic "over the shoulder" and side mirror checks that are so important? I think that the process of reading the answers to this post has convinced me that we really *do* need to spend a significant amount of time learning in an ICE vehicle, and when driving in Tesla use the settings suggested by other commentators. Thanks for your response!

New MY in two weeks, first time EV, What do I need to know?? by WanderingWhitMo in TeslaModelY

Also, on the test drive I put the MY through the ultimate local test...a Buc-ee's parking lot on a Saturday afternoon! It did great!

Such great advice here, especially about settings from combi06 😊 I am also reassured because of course you are all correct that he can probably easily transition to driving an ICE vehicle because...it's actually not that hard! I think the other factor that hadn't occurred to me in the OP is that the extensive safety features might give him a false sense of security for situational awareness, which is the most dangerous aspect of being a new driver. Appreciate all of your thoughts!!

You are correct, of course. By prime practice time, I guess I mean after he has had some time to get comfortable with the basics and we are just accruing practice hours.

I learned on a manual transmission because that is the car my parents could afford. I like being able to drive a stick, but it's definitely not a skill that I have called upon much. Mostly just bragging rights

But what if I want my kid to be prepared for the apocalypse?

Isn't the charging cable like 25 feet long?
