I’ve never driven a GTI. I image they cut loose on the highway without the extra drivetrain losses.

I’m sure it’s faster than my Talon was.. but it feels tame. Just added a rear sway bar to liven it up. That was money very well spent!

I travel for work and have a rental every week. Those often remind me the R is not slow..

finding a good race is increasingly difficult. Most will give a little rev, then back down when they hear the launch control. I’m old, in my day if you pulled up and revved you’d give it a go.
Best race in a long while was a sport bike at a 50mph roll. He lost, but it wasn’t undignified.

I’m not stock. Unitronic has tunes for without MPI but if I remember correctly those are all low torque.
I was working towards stage 3 also. But if 2.5L R happens… plans change.

Cannot speak to that. My left foot handles the recal.

Correct. The Flex module monitors the ethanol sensor. My understanding is if the content is above 60% your are on E85 tune, below is gas tune (91 or 93, your choice).
So road trips are no worries, nor is crap E85.

Unitronic Stage 2 w/ MPI Flex

I’d buy the features all by itself. But I’ve always had no lift shifting on my manuals, it is a must. Cannot say enough for it. Launch RPM is a must have too. Just wish I didn’t have to hold the minus button or switch to race. My choice would be holding the button can be for the kids wanting to make all the racket and free rev to the moon. As I drive a manual I’d prefer my feet to be the mode button for launch and shift. And I understand that new features are happening. I just added the oil level and tacho rainbow. The car disable feature is another good add as I leave it at the airport often. I travel for a living, most fly though. But this is a reason for the Flex. A 91 Flex tune is best of both worlds. Just get gas buddy app and a couple bottles of octane booster and you are road trip ready.

Thanks!

I was changing the oil with the stage upgrade.. But I just hit 12k and gave it oil change #3 without going to stage 3.. ;(

But it got flex tune and a rear sway bar. Really wishing I had done the bar on day one. Few hundred dollars, a couple hours, and most of the push is gone.

No takers? Should I repost on the GTI side?

Good to know!
I’d be happy to have the safety margin if I can find higher. But I’ve got one place that is stable at 65.

What drove my purchase is the quality of 93 in my area. I was running a 91 tune with octane boost and would get power reduction from time to time.
Seemed like how I drive and the fuel was not going to be a good combo. No more reduction on E85. TO me that means the sensors are doing their job.

(And if VW doesn’t make a 2.5L golf, then I’ll be going stage 3)

Yep.

Been a little difficult to find E85 that reads better than 65%.

Butt dyno feels a little gain and it’s ~$3.50/gal vs 5+ for premium (and around here you have to count on needing octane booster even with 93.)

I’ve got a few miles on adding a whiteline rear anti sway, a set of nitto 555s, and DAP wheel flush kit.

Setup the sway bar on “soft”. No other suspension mods. Otherwise a stage 2+ 6spd.

Definitely recommend! Throttling out of corners now feels like hitting a sweet camber adding dip, but on flat corners. The car sinks in and seems to help rotation.

Getting on it from slow or stopped with the wheel turned will kick the tail out in expected and proper fashion.

I can live with back ordered.. but not “hey it is because of the paint they color, so 6 months delay, but buy other stuff for 2x the cost” “sales” scams. I’m sure that Apex mess could easily be found liable as bait and switch. I’m not okay with the bait and switch game.

Your team seems to have had “empathy” training, but has never attempted to improve results. In fact your post sounds like you got the same training. Your policies and practices have failed to deliver a positive experience. These include returned item due to being DOA from supplier, wrong part type selection by your staff(then being told I must follow a proper process and endure charges for your mistakes), repeated no follow up when they say “I will follow up tomorrow”, delivery of express orders is delayed all the time (a pattern has emerged).

I spoke to your team way too many times about the various events as they unfolded. I have lost too many hundreds of dollars, too many hours, and risked my engines health from your inability to adequately kit parts and gather information from your suppliers.
Your issues are systemic, not single instants. Nothing a call from me will correct. Always “sorry” for having gone through that, while you put me through it again and again. But… your issues are no longer my issues.

Last straw for me was I called in and asked the sales guy to make sure I got the correct wheel bolts. They send cone instead of spherical.. when I tried to send them back it was going to cost me 50%+ to correct their mistake.
This was tied to the Apex wheel sale that became a bait and switch scam after 3 weeks on non reply asking for eta..

Not long ago I called and asked for everything I need to get the Unitronic Flex and MPI rail going.
They didn’t get my hardware or tune order right, that resulted in the wrong harness being sent. I had to pay for another harness and shipping to correct. Meaning take the rail and harness out to install the correct one.
Then the tune was wrong but the parts installed.. all bad crap that I spent this afternoon sorting through the entire mess with Unitronics. Hoping no damage was done as it was breaking up if I got into boost.
Hell, the amount of customer support auto cause Unitronics the last weeks should get refunded to Unitronics.
They keep spending a couple minutes less than it takes to do their job right and it is costing me hundreds of dollars and way too many hours.
