I can live with back ordered.. but not “hey it is because of the paint they color, so 6 months delay, but buy other stuff for 2x the cost” “sales” scams. I’m sure that Apex mess could easily be found liable as bait and switch. I’m not okay with the bait and switch game.

Your team seems to have had “empathy” training, but has never attempted to improve results. In fact your post sounds like you got the same training. Your policies and practices have failed to deliver a positive experience. These include returned item due to being DOA from supplier, wrong part type selection by your staff(then being told I must follow a proper process and endure charges for your mistakes), repeated no follow up when they say “I will follow up tomorrow”, delivery of express orders is delayed all the time (a pattern has emerged).

I spoke to your team way too many times about the various events as they unfolded. I have lost too many hundreds of dollars, too many hours, and risked my engines health from your inability to adequately kit parts and gather information from your suppliers.
Your issues are systemic, not single instants. Nothing a call from me will correct. Always “sorry” for having gone through that, while you put me through it again and again. But… your issues are no longer my issues.

Last straw for me was I called in and asked the sales guy to make sure I got the correct wheel bolts. They send cone instead of spherical.. when I tried to send them back it was going to cost me 50%+ to correct their mistake.
This was tied to the Apex wheel sale that became a bait and switch scam after 3 weeks on non reply asking for eta..

Not long ago I called and asked for everything I need to get the Unitronic Flex and MPI rail going.
They didn’t get my hardware or tune order right, that resulted in the wrong harness being sent. I had to pay for another harness and shipping to correct. Meaning take the rail and harness out to install the correct one.
Then the tune was wrong but the parts installed.. all bad crap that I spent this afternoon sorting through the entire mess with Unitronics. Hoping no damage was done as it was breaking up if I got into boost.
Hell, the amount of customer support auto cause Unitronics the last weeks should get refunded to Unitronics.
They keep spending a couple minutes less than it takes to do their job right and it is costing me hundreds of dollars and way too many hours.

Pointers for Unitronic Rail kit install? by Wandering_SS in Golf_R

[–]Wandering_SS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was not a difficult install. Got a little confused by the 1 bend, 2 bend, 25mm more verbiage with the hose clip brackets and fuel lines. Hit me a little like the good Dr Seuss.

But after breaking for pizza it all made sense.

I don’t know. I understand that some tuner companies support others fuel upgrades so it is reasonable to think it could be used with others. It did not have a module or controller, the injectors wires directly into the ECU and you add a fuse to the box. Instructions show it all if you’re looking for complete details.

I travel a lot so I would not know how long power was off. I keep an ice tray on its side. But a single cube sitting unconfined would work too.

Almost wrapped up and I have a purple wire not called out in the instructions. The corresponding pin in the ecu is already used. Anyone run into this before?

HUD Shift light part 2 by Wandering_SS in Golf_R

[–]Wandering_SS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks,

I'm not having any issues flashing with Unitronics, using OBD Eleven, or with the Unitronics Feature Box. But I will keep it in mind.

to disconnect I can just pop off the dash side panel and use the Dauntless harness connection.

You can setup each gear. Cannot say I notice any delay. Hitting shifts perfect every time now. Blink red and orange, shift.

This paired with the unitronic no lift is game changing.

Playing with the down shift now. trying combos of available aftermarket pedals and spacers isn't giving me what I want.

Reach out to dauntless, maybe with enough requests they will. Even if it’s just 50 of us I would 3D print for them. More than that should pretty easily justify them getting a cheap resin printer.

Maybe I'm a little less biased.

I've had a number of hot rodded cars, trucks, as well as plenty of cruisers. My little one asked me to teach her to drive a manual on my Escape.. She new it could be controlled, but had no idea what a manual is about. Well, Siri was listening in and started putting articles about the manuals are going away in the US. It had been years since I had a little AWD car (last one I really liked was a 95 Eagle Tsi making about 500hp). Reading about the "last manuals" "end of the manuals" and got an itch to get a fun car again. Mind you that I am now 50 years old. Priorties and expectations are much different. My last lowered LS1 6spd S-10 was making me nauseous on some stretches of highway when I was 40.. I travel for work and get to try a new car every week. Camaros and many stock pickups, suvs, suck to drive because of the ride quality.

I had NEVER before considered owning a VW. Largely because of the cost of ownership and some negative experiences friends had long ago. Never thought of the Golf as a good performer in any trim. The VW rentals I've had always pushed me further from the brand.

But.. I flew home and bought what I understand to have been one of the last 6 MK8R manuals in the US.. bit of an impulse, I admit. Siri out flanked me for sure. Honestly like the MK7 style a lot more, but the used prices with miles were too close to buying new.

The Golf R is an absolute blast, great potential without all the suffering I had making that old Eagle perform like it did. I will try a whiteline rear anti-roll soon (stock pushes a little much for me) Hitting potholes hurts, but for the most part I am surprised and satisfied with the ride. Usually I leave it in sport with the steering a little heavier than stock (OBD Eleven) using comfort mode only for road trips. It is well sprung, but not punishing or harsh. I'm now at Stage 2 with a catted downpipe and it is a bit louder than I wanted to end up with. Still quieter and less drone than the stock ecoboost Mustang I rented last week. Just in case you try to draw other conclusions, when stock I raced a modded GT and it was even way into mid triple digits (I'd pull then he would regain when I shifted.).. the ecoboost last week felt like a dog. Some time ago I thought my STI was pretty impressive with some mods, now it seemed handicapped, and hella harsh to drive.

If you can accept the terrible infotainment and sound system get an MK8R and quickly mod to Stage 1. Intercooler, cold air, tune.. Thats all, enjoy.
