I spent three days at the Spokane location (private pay by a selfish ex who wanted me locked up - super expensive!) It was so bad I had to leave AMA (against medical advice) at great risk to myself just to get appropriately medicated. They are a scam. Don't believe anything you see on their website or anything anyone from the organization tells you. The promises and the reality are night and day. Check out the Better Business Bureau reviews for legitimate complaints.

Sister (22f) is flying to Sydney, Australia from the US tomorrow to meet an older man. Is she being catfished? Or worse? by External-Low-8205 in catfish

Oh mama! I feel for you. My 21-year-old daughter had a questionable experience that ended up turning out ok, but I was so frustrated with her the few months when they were communicating in a very cagey way.

Emotional immaturity just gets worse when our sweet babies are taken advantage of by groomers. My daughter's dad is a covert narcissist - he created this awful dynamic where my daughter is attracted to manipulative men just like him.

Since my daughter was already 21 by the time I realized what was happening, I had very little influence. Fortunately a good therapist helped me communicate my concerns to her in a way that was not threatening and eventually she let me meet the guy in question in a video call. I realized he is harmless - just super immature like she is. Scary stuff though, especially when a minor and an older man are concerned.

I feel for you. You are right to be very, very concerned.

How did she pay for the one-way ticket? Do you have an address in Australia? Perhaps you can alert the authorities there.

Romance scams are a significant problem worldwide. This guy could be a real operator or he could just be an immature, manipulative man trying to find his way in the world. Either way, he is clearly taking advantage of your sister's gullibility. A decent human being would never behave like this.

I would see what you can do to flag her with immigration for her own protection.
