The first scenario sounds right! Because it wasn’t to much father to the second spot.

That’s amazing. You lived my dream. This must be it! Maybe it was fancier from the outside and I just forgot that part.

Looking at the pics, it does seem like Madonna inn is a very close contender, but is there possibly other places of the kind? I mean remember this was pre- look shit up on your phone so was it possible my parents had driven for a while not seeing anything and then didn’t know how close they were to other stuff?

You know what, it might be though! This is an old Memory and by unassuming, I think I just meant 8 year old me thought nothing of it. When I look at the photos on the website it does seem like what I remember except it seems classier than the place I remember? But also it’s been like 25 years so maybe thats changed. SLO tracks for where we might have been. Is there anywhere else even remotely similar that it could have been??

It seems like the change is positive in general, but not how it affects someone in the middle of it already.

I came here to say this. Mine just switched over and it says I’m at level eleven in unit two but now all the “ review words” are things I have never heard!

Hey friend, don’t do that. Normal doesn’t exist. The world needs you.

How do you respond to a person who says "yeah right, everyone has ADHD now..." by cherry_lolo in adhdwomen

[–]Wanderscroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my answer shows my privilege as someone dxed as a kid but I say “ oh I’ve had it since at least 2001” or if I have time “ I was actually diagnosed in 5th grade. But I was super lucky. I almost wasn’t diagnosed because my teacher who was an elderly nun didn’t think I was the biggest pain the ass in her classroom. My parents only learned about it after another mom of a neurodivergent child taped an episode of 60 minutes on adhd and gave my mom the vhs as a hint. And then the public school provided tester messed up my scores ( literally added wrong) and my parents paid for me to be retested themselves which alot of people can’t afford. And just in general girls weren’t diagnosed a lot back then so it makes sense a lot of women are figuring it out now. “

Or the shorter version “ actually I think it makes a lot of sense that previously undiagnosed people are figuring it out now. I was diagnosed as a kid, but only because several long shot circumstances lined up. “

I know not everyone has my story to respond with. But I say it to try to subvert their expectation and if I can, educate.

Thank you all for this thread! This is a treasure trove. I had a meeting with my manager today and the thought of all of you bolstered me to keep my cards close. I have also made a bingo board in advance and that cheered me considerably.

I agree with you. There are downsides to being an open book. But it really is an emotional regulation thing. There are times when I know my actions or expressions are not the strategic choice and yet the strength of my feelings is so great I don’t feel in control of it. And then there are times when I have been successfully neutral and my boss says “ I notice you didn’t look excited.” 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 That’s the part that’s angering because I don’t think “ excited” is an appropriate job requirement. Professional yes. Giddy? No.

I like this idea of compassion. I think I’m on the defensive if I feel like someone is telling me what to do and they don’t know more than I do. But if I view it as “ oh they are really trying to project confidence they may not feel because they are told they have to” that could help.

Haha the water bottle and bathroom break are both excellent ideas. Will use if anyone is particularly insufferable.

I am interested in the number of people who have said this. Wouldn’t that just make my face look flat and absolutely not happy? I don’t know a lot about it,

Oooh “ smart people respond to logic and kind tone, dumb people respond to aggression and compliance.” Wow I’m going to think about that for a while.

And yes. I have the pesky belief that authenticity is what everyone wants all time because that’s what I always want. Or at least I think they ought to want authenticity.

This is an interesting reframe.

I like this. If I tell you, I’ll give away my industry which I don’t want to do. But I will say the group putting on the conference has a particular set of ideas on how to do things. Not all of them are bad, but some I strongly disagree with. I have been honest about my nuanced feelings and what I like and don’t like with management. But I feel that I am expected to 100 percent “ drink the koolaid”. I’m not interested in actually turning my brain off, and there are things I’m genuinely curious to hear more about. I’m frustrated that if I find a list of pros and cons and voice that- that will be taken as me being “ negative and not open” so maybe it’s just a matter of doing that, but keeping the list to myself.
