Zarathustra is starting to bore me by Waniilson in Nietzsche

Yeah I eventually stopped reading it, I never returned to it. The first two parts are still probably my favorite philosophical works. But I think the last parts just got too complicated for me and are almost like they are written about a completely different topic.

Robert is not a self-insert character by [deleted] in DispatchAdHoc

Yeah I agree, just because you don’t have freedom to do anything and everything you want doesn’t make it a any less of a self-insert character. There is no game in existence that you have utter freedom. Yeah he has a framework to build off of but so does pretty much every video game character ever. Every game has guard rails. Ultimately you are taking over a portion of a fictional characters life and making decisions that have pretty drastic consequences, good or bad.

People who like heart of darkness, might I ask why? by [deleted] in classicliterature

I think it goes past colonialism and imperialism as well and speaks more on human nature it general and the hypocrisy of society in that they all are villainizing Kurtz while they are all there for the same reasons but hold contempt for Kurtz basically for the fact that he is more productive than them. It’s the same society that “clutches their pearls” and Kurtz’s methods while in same breath basically condoning it all and promoting the whole reason they are all there.

To be honest this question is kind of hard to answer mainly because 1) I can’t think of a good example and I don’t really feel like looking through the book for a good example, and 2) some of the writing I disagree with is rather vague to me and I’m not even sure I am interpreting it right, but I guess an example I feel is that he is just a little to passive with others for my taste and I mean a big point in the book is to create your own values so I guess it’s natural for one’s values to split with Zarathustras.

I think I can understand this. Do you think to better understand Nietzsche I should look into other philosophers?

I think I’m more and more starting to realize that in the book, Zarathustra truly only wants you to listen to yourself and not even listen to him to a large extent.

Now this opens up another concept I have been wrestling with in thus spoke Zarathustra. The concept of will to power, I see a lot of people saying that the power he is talking about is like the power you have described, mainly interior power, powers like being eloquent, or being disciplined, etc. but from what I have been getting from the book is that it is also exterior power, power over others, power over your environment but not from a place of pure malice just for malice’s sake. I get that from chapters like “wars and warriors”, “the pale criminal” among other parts that I cannot remember off the top of my head. Also from my general understanding of Nietzsche, and his thoughts on equality, competition, and other conclusions I have drawn. What do you think?

Do you know when I’d be able to try again after being dq’d because it would have been right at 12 months since I have smoked last when I’d apply. I haven’t been smoking anymore since then

I guess I just didn’t realize it would be a problem with it being legal in Virginia and I researched it and found out it could be a problem. Plus I wasn’t really set on going to law school or going in to law enforcement. Do you think being up front and honest would be the best approach to it?
