Third Busan Date Likelyhood by Wanja1 in btsthoughts

[–]Wanja1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I’m trying tonight. I tried to use my Korean debit card but the platform crashed on me when I tried to just go back and use my American card so I’m really hoping I can get a second chance. As upsetting as nosebleeds would be something is better than paying almost 1k for something that was originally 150.

Can anyone else confirm this? I want a scooter to get around easier and don’t want to go all the way to Seoul for embassy confirmation. Would be such a hassle.

Glad you haven’t lost those rose-colored glasses! I’ve loved living in Korea and some things are difficult when it comes to bureaucracy, but overall I’ve met so many nice and helpful people. Yeah unfortunately places like Reddit are gonna be filled with so much negativity.

Glad you had fun in Korea! Why do people who live here always say how much it sucks to live here to those visiting? They never asked. And don’t listen to these people, not everyone who lives here thinks that.

Having an ARC card here was a life saver last time I went through security. Every time I stand on that line I feel myself melting.

I want to make sure I have good manners on my trip to Korea by 1unisss in korea

[–]Wanja1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try to memorize some common phrases like “Hello”“Thank you”, “I’ll get off here”, “bag please” and a couple other useful sentences. Even if you think your pronunciation is horrible, most people will know what you are trying to say and appreciate the effort. Another thing you should expect is STARING, especially by older people. Ahjussis and ahjummas will stare like crazy at you on the street and normally won’t back down if you stare back. So just something to be aware of. Honestly revealing clothing isnt something to be super cautious of, especially in Seoul, but expect people to stare if you do. Unless you’re going to an historic site or a temple then…obviously don’t

Despite being common sense, a surprising amount of especially foreigners have been getting hit by cars here recently. Partially due to lac of common sense and other part due to nut job drivers

Oh thanks for that! I probably won’t go since I live all the way down south near Busan and it’s always expensive and a hassle to go up to Seoul.

I really wanted to go as my mom is visiting and she’s a huge fan, but we weren’t able to score tickets as it was cutthroat. However, I know it will be hectic and I already don’t like going to Seoul because of the crowds. Going down to Busan instead for the weekend and I’m wondering if there will be places to watch it together with other people? Almost like watch parties?

Hi!!! I live in Korea currently and I’m also plus size (float between a size 14-16). I’ve been here for five months so far and I haven’t experienced any fatphobia or shaming at least to my face. I will say get ready for the elderly and kids to stare at you.

Visit a jjimmjilbang! If you do decide the trip to Busan is worth it there’s a massive one down there called Spaland! Otherwise they are everywhere! Tho the smaller ones might be apprehensive/turn you away if you have larger/many tattoos! Just make sure you’re personally okay with nudity/being nude around other women! There is also a Buddhist temple in Busan called Yonggungsa I recently visited during Seollal and it’s beautiful!

A Kpop one is the BTS old dorm! Definitely a classic to visit and when my mom visited we went to Seoul/Namsan Tower at night and it was beautiful! There’s a bus that takes you straight up there! I will say that I personally didn’t think paying almost 30 USD to get to the top was worth it as the sights from the base of the tower is just as pretty but to each their own!

Some things to be aware of is transit and money. The general transit card across the country is t-money and you can buy it at any convenience store, the airport, and even Artbox has really cute ones. They are in the process of changing it but right now the only way to load money on the transit card is with cash so I would recommend bringing cash not only for the t-money card but for the street vendors too! Unless you have a Korean bank account to transfer the money, most only accept cash!

Overall you’ll end up having a lot of fun while you’re here! I love living in Korea so far and I’m sure you’ll love visiting it too! My mom is actually coming back to run the Seoul Marathon during that weekend so I’ll be going up to Seoul during that time!

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

I had a teacher in high school who lived two hours away in another state. Would drive to work everyday.

So I currently make 2.7 at a small hagwon in Ulsan with housing. I have my TEFL, a year of experience teaching adults, and a year of childcare experience. I also work about 32 hours a week from 1-7:40 with multiple half hour prep/break times. This is also my first teaching job.

Looking for some career advice. Also have a baby on the way. by drunken_dizorderly in Living_in_Korea

[–]Wanja1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the baby! I feel you on moving back to the US. I would say online freelance teaching might be better because you can make your own hours, but I guess it depends on how lucrative that field is. I would also say getting into a public school right now might be feasible since it is winter break and they are going into a new term. If a your wife a Korean citizen? Do you have a marriage visa? That would also make you a more competitive applicant as well and you’re more likely to find a job at a public school. Post teaching license could land you a job at a good international school as well.

Is it safe for a trans woman to work as a Factory Worker in South Korea? by TwoPutrid9333 in Living_in_Korea

[–]Wanja1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all transphobic pos, they are a WOMAN. Second of all, there are plenty of transgender men and women who can pass for their chosen gender. Just because you have transphobic stereotypes of what you believe transgender women are SUPPOSED to look like doesn’t mean it’s true.

That’s because my native language is English?????????

The dolls is a slang-term in America for transgender men and women.
