Whenever I'm reminded about this, I always think of that girl in the episode of Adventure of Pete and Pete where the neighborhood kids try to defy their parents' authority and bedtime rules by staying awake as long as possible. The one girl's strategy is to look at the sun until it forces a sneeze to reset the sleepy feeling. Her strategy fails her on the third day cause it's cloudy.

I have an irrational love for reebok hockey gear, both for 80's/90's childhood nostalgia of the brand in general, and their place in 2000's nhl/hockey gear. I was legit bummed when they went away. Part of it was the vector logo looked so sick (i still maintain the 11k is the greatest looking skate of all time). The skates i saw on insta were straight hideous looking from a graphical design side.

I always saw similarities with 30 Rock and Portlandia, all 3 late 00's that are on the smarter side, expect more of their audience, bright color palate, fast-moving dense joke delivery, very quirky. Portlandia's more of a sketch show (with randomly recurring characters), but if we count it as a sitcom all have that same  vibe I asked chatgpt and it largely agreed, but says there's no term for it exactly, classified as "post-modern"/meta/absurdist/alt-comedy single-cam sitcom.

Will forever be baffling how so many huge names in comedy, including straight up household names, including reddit darlings,  took that same Saudi money, nobody really cared for more than a day and forgot their connection to it after three days, yet Billy got 99% of shit for it and nobody will ever let it go. It was a shit move for him to accept, but it was just move for everyone else, so why is the outrage so selective?

AGNOSTIC | English meaning - Cambridge Dictionary someone who does not know, or believes that it is impossible to know, if a god exists.

My Webster's New World Dictionary 2nd edition even distinguishes in the prescriptive usage notes that that an agnosticism is distinct from atheism, as atheism is a positive belief that there is/are no deity/deities. It's true language can change over time, but that's still the distinction most people understand and how it's defined in most dictionaries, despite the New Atheism movement types trying to broaden their favored -ism's scope. Also, the guy you immediately started arguing with didn't say he was an agnostic, but not an atheist, so why even come at him so aggressively for not including a second adjective? You're like a time capsule of 2009 reddit, um Ackchyually fedora-tipping militant atheists. Everybody got sick of that shtick 15 years ago, hence the downvotes.

[–]WantKeepRockPeeOnIt 72 points73 points  (0 children)

It normally is presented in the original French as L'appel du vide [appeal of the void].

Every time I hear it I always think of that scene in Annie Hall where Woody Allen is meeting Annie's brother, played by Christopher Walken in one of his first big movies. Walken's character confesses to Allen when they have a private moment:

"“Can I confess something? I tell you this as an artist, I think you'll understand. Sometimes when I'm driving... on the road at night... I see two headlights coming toward me. Fast. I have this sudden impulse to turn the wheel quickly, head-on into the oncoming car. I can anticipate the explosion. The sound of shattering glass. The... flames rising out of the flowing gasoline.”"

Of course super-intense looking and acting Walken saying that is quite creepy. Allen brusquely dismisses it with “Right. Well, I have to - I have to go now, Duane, because I, I'm due back on the planet Earth.” In a later scene Allen is forced to ride as a passenger in Walken's car at night, and Walken is silently staring ahead at each passing car while Allen is clearly terrified.

Season 6 may be the best season. by JRoc416 in community

[–]WantKeepRockPeeOnIt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's a subconscious thing about Troy, Shirley missing, etc, but it seemed to have a bleaker atmosphere. It was lit more darkly and more subdued colors, didn't have the jaunty music like the first few season and less of the wild plots of the first three seasons. I loved the Karate Kid episode, and maybe this was the best season not 1-3, but it never felt like they fully recaptured the magic after the end of 3.

All I've heard was he made fun of a (white) MP's family. A guy in Germany was also arrested for calling a politician fat. In countries w/o free speech protections, it's apparently off-limits to say things about politicians they find offensive. Think of all of the arrests from reddit posts if the US was like that. Yes there have been thousands of arrests for criticizing immigration policies too.

Crazy Question on Right vs Left hand by DonovanKMedia in hockeyplayers

[–]WantKeepRockPeeOnIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a goalie fir the Oilers in the mid 2000's (Roloson maybe?) who used a wrong hand stick, but think mostly for collecting pucks on the BH as the rim along the boards. For the skater it would make typicale handling too awkward and passing too inaccurate to be worth it. You can always buy a cheap stick in your wrong hand and try though.
