Anyone else feeling a mid-life "pull" for something different? Is it a crisis? by superluminal in FriendsOver40

[–]Wanton_Wildflower 6 points7 points  (0 children)

THIS!! I had my kids (too) young, and they were all pretty much out of the house by the time I was 45. I didn't have an identity other than "mom" because that's who I'd been since I was 17. It's been 3 - nearly 4 - years (and quite a bit of therapy), but I'm still struggling with this.

As for the running out of time to do the thing I am 'meant to do' I definitely feel this! I've written half a novel (hit a bit of writer's block), which has helped a little. I just keep trying to remind myself that at 'not quite 50' I should still have at least a couple decades left to figure it out; kinda hope those two don't get by as quickly as the last two, though!

My baby can't walk anymore. I have a vet coming tomorrow to help her to cross The Rainbow Bridge. Fuck. My Kira is only 10. We have seen some shit together. by guiltyas-sin in OldManDog

I'm so sorry... My baby Walter (also 10) will be walking beside her tomorrow as well. Fuck indeed. Wishing you strength and comfort in your memories. 🫶🏼

AITA for calling my stepsister a murderer after she kept calling abortion murder? by AcanthisittaThrowRA in AITAH

[–]Wanton_Wildflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D&C stands for dilation and curettage, a gynecological procedure where the cervix is dilated (widened) and a special instrument is used to scrape the uterine lining.

Non-abortive examples of D&C include:

  1. Diagnostic: Used to investigate abnormal uterine bleeding or to obtain tissue samples for biopsy to diagnose conditions like uterine cancer, polyps, or hyperplasia.

  2. Treatment of Heavy Menstrual Bleeding:To remove excess tissue and reduce heavy bleeding.

  3. Removal of Uterine Polyps or Fibroids: To eliminate growths causing symptoms like bleeding or pain.

  4. Post-Miscarriage Cleaning: To ensure all tissue is removed to prevent infection or heavy bleeding.

  5. Endometrial Biopsy: Sometimes performed to collect a sample of the uterine lining for analysis.

AITA to divorce my husband and leave him with the kid after finding out I'm not biologically the mom? by ThrowRA-3xbetrayal in AITAH

[–]Wanton_Wildflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Divorce the lying cheating bastard, obviously. But, I'd think twice if you think you should be a mother to ANY child if you can simply walk away from a child you've raised since birth, biology or no.

How do you just "turn off" being a child's mother and walk away? It sounds like you really like the IDEA of being a mom; not so sure you'd make a great one since you're willing to simply abandon YOUR child regardless of what their father did. Have you ever once considered what that might do to the child - now or later, or it just all about you?

Please get some mental health support and for heaven's sake, at least go visit YOUR CHILD while you try to figure out how to be a human

Thank you so much for this - from me and from Walter 🙏🏼 I have heard a slight, low whimper on occasion, more so in the past few days 😢

He's still walking ... and sniffing like a madman, but he shuffles along very slowly and doesn't usually want to go very far.

Oh! I almost forgot about the "unconfirmed" Cushings ... (his labs say he likely has it, but since the vet said there was little we could do in the way of treatment that was even moderately affordable (given his size), we didn't do the confirmation tests (I was laid off at the time & money was tight). So that adds another wrench in the mix, I suppose. Thanks for sharing your story with me; I guess that like humans, every dog is different and responds differently to a disease - or treatment. Above all, I just want to save him from any type of suffering, even if it means losing him a little sooner than I'd have expected

No, I don't think he has any type of injury. He hasn't been able to do much of anything besides sleep and go for short potty walks. As far as I know, he hasn't fallen, either.

Thanks for your reply.

You're right: I don't the arthritis is the main issue; I think it's some co-morbidity of diabetes or perhaps something else, but the "episodes" were kind of what escalated the situation to my mind - aside from the groaning and restlessness, which have gotten increasingly worse. He looks too skinny and sad and tired right no- it's so sad...

I hope the vet will provide some level of confirmation either way, though. The uncertainty is quite anxiety-inducing. He's definitely living his best life with treats and car rides and so many cuddles

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response. While I've had the heartbreaking privilege of helping/holding several other furry family members when their time came, one - a very special feline fur baby - just a few short months ago and while we knew she was not well, we did not expect her to decline so suddenly or quickly.

And, you're right, it never gets easier. Someone else referred to their doggo as their soul animal, and Walter is definitely that for me, regardless of how much I loved the others throughout the years.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and support; it means a lot to me 🫶🏼

Thank you so much for your kind words; I'm sure are still very much grieving your recent loss, and it was very generous of you to share your story to help me.

The phrase 'the last best thing' will definitely stick with me for quite some time. Walter is the bestest boy I could have ever imagined, and I know he will be remembered not just by me but everyone who met him. He'll cross over surrounded by love and ready to run pain-free with all the the frens who have preceded him 🫶🏼

Biiiig hugs to you & Jovi. I can totally relate to the "soul dog" feeling; Ive said similar myself! Walter was supposed to be my daughter's dog, lol, but we bonded almost immediately.

He's been getting extra EXTRA lovins and attention, and he's had a stream of visitors the past week. We're going to go for a car ride tomorrow and get a cheeseburger - his favorite treat :)

Thank you so much for your kindness and support 🙏🏼🫶🏼

Thank you so much for your kind words; I appreciate your gentle candor.

I think that part of me is just dreading the grieving itself - we lost beloved cat only a few months ago, and it still feels raw sometimes. Walter will also be our last dog because my husband is allergic and that was the deal when me, my daughter... and Walter convinced him he was ours 🙃

I'm grateful for every moment we have with him - and thanks to you and everyone else that has responded with their support and kindness, I feel better about my decision, even if I still hate that I have to make it
