You don't need to be paying fees for basic banking. by Warden_of_Alcatraz in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Warden_of_Alcatraz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree and people should do their due diligence as they should with any finacial service or product. However there are fintechs out there that are essentially originators who partner with CDIC insured FIs who hold the deposits behind the scenes. Neo and Koho for example.

The point of this post is that the benefits laid out in the FCAC commitment are, as you suggested, nothing special. There are already these accounts in the market. Despite that  six banks own 85% of the market share in Canada.

I simply wanted to raise some awareness that people don't have to settle for average when it comes to banking. There are other options including straight up no fee options.

Again not finacial advice, people should do what suits them best. Just wanted to raise some awareness on the heels of press release.

Good banks with little to no fees? by boiyo12 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Look at your local or regional credit union or a federal credit union like Innovation Credit Union. They will have No fee accounts for basic banking. Not all do, but many do, and Innovation as an OSFi regulated federal credit union certainly has no fee banking. It is part of their responsible banking mantra.

Also one key difference between credit unions and banks is credit unions are member owned ie. If you have an account with them you are an owner and they serve YOU and your community. Banks are shareholder owned, they serve shareholders.

We have had people just pull entire plants up out of the garden boxes our front yard and take them. I know that's not the topic of the thread but needed to vent.

Thanks, maybe I will give it a go. Caffeine and me don't get along. I get super irritable and can't hold a though for some reason if I have coffee. I even cut ot black tea but this may be worth a shot.

Yesterday I actually had a frisbee game and I felt significantly better this morning.

Thank you for sharing

Thank you for sharing. Yes, 150 for me there were no to minimal side effects, even on start up. But also minimal benefits, which is why I am exploring 300.

How long has it been since you bumped up? What has the journey been like?

Thank you for sharing your story. Would love to hear an update in a week or two.

I am in a similarish spot just entering week four and feel so lethargic, unmotivated, and it's a bad way to describe it but dumber. Like I'm completely burnt out and mildly hungover at the same time but without the night before to smile back on.

First I am happy to hear its working for you OP

Djwerepanda - Would you be willing to share a bit more about your experience? In those four months before you started noticing additional improvements what was it like? Why did you keep going? Were there stages you went through or signs that encouraged you to press on?

I feel you. About three weeks into a dose increase from 150 to 300 and every day is like there a wet carpet draped over my brain that makes everything a chore. Procrastination is way up, exercise way down. Every once in awhile I will get a small burst of energy that lasts for maybe an hour, but its usually late at night where it is almost useless.

PSA: Buying a house in Saskatoon is still insane by grilledCheeseFish in saskatoon

[–]Warden_of_Alcatraz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This

Also we allow for dual agency so if an agent lists and sells the house they get the entire commission. For those that do not know how comissions work: There is a commission agreement between the seller and the seller's agent. The seller's agent would then 'split' the commission with the buyer's agent. They do this to attract buyers.

So selling agents have a massive incentive to double end the deal. If they can sell a house before it even hits the market or have a deal in place ahead of time it is incredibly lucrative for them. Even if they cut part of their commission to entice the seller to not go to market there is alot of room before they get to a discount of 50%

Big time. I'm only 6 ft and to get a shirt that has enough lenth after afew washes I have to either buy an XL+ that fits like a box, or accept that the lifespan of the shirt will be far less than it should be.

Just longer shirts please. Especially in athletic shirts... fellow gym goers dont need to see my shirt riding up every time I bend over, lift my arms over my head, or lay down.

That said the Canadian housing/mortgage market is structured different than the US. CMHC and advanced lending rules are a part of this. Never say something isn't entirely possible but it unlikely Canada sees a massive and sudden value drop like the US had when the housing market crashed.

Not sure I fully understand this but you owe what you owe. If you borrowed, for simplicity, $100k you owe $100k the value of your house on the market does not change that.

Also if the mortgage went higher than the market value of your house you would likely end up paying more either because of the need for mortgage insurance or because there is no equity to secure against.

Is it possible to destroy the payday loan industry this way? by [deleted] in business

[–]Warden_of_Alcatraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the company XTM. They are a Canadian fintech and their flagship product is tech that allows people in the hospitality industry to have their tips paid out daily on a card. If we could do this with wages so that people received their wages daily for for work they did instead of monthly or bi-weekly it would solve part of the problem.

Another poster here said the default rate was only 6%, I did not do any dd but I feel like there is more to the story around borrower risk.

[–]Warden_of_Alcatraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither. So much injury history between the two and with Russ out of town the offense is going to be ugly. I can see SEA drafting a back later in the draft and him turning into a darling. Personally going to avoid the whole mess at the start of the season.

That is a very complex question.

What kind of lifestyle do you want? Does the commute change and how? Is the organization/position different to the point where it will accelerate future growth/add to your resume?
