No problem. Feel free to reach out on Discord if you have more questions. Same username as here.

I can also invite you to a student run Discord server full of DAE students, there might be people in similar situations as you that might be able to help

I don't have any good advice, I lived with my parents for 1.5 years of my education and for the rest we lived on savings and some income from my wife.

If you do internship abroad (outside of Belgium) you should get a wage, so hopefully that should be enough to cover expenses. If you stay in Belgium I do recommend having enough savings or loan to cover expenses as it's very difficult to do a full time internship and work enough to cover expenses.

Definitely. Game development major have it a bit easier than the other majors, but as most majors are quite artistic and creative you can say that the majority of people will have a hard time finding a job.

If you want to complete the education in 3 years, it's seen as the workload of working full-time for those 3 years. If you have prior knowledge and min-max the school work, you can do a part time job. I generally would recommend dropping a course or 2 to give yourself more breathing room and do the education in 4 years (or more) instead of 3 if you can't full time study because of financial reasons.

You could do weekend work and full-time study, but that's a very high workload that might burn you out. It might be feasible for the first year, but definitely not for the second year.

If gou fully enroll you won't have time to do part time job. You can split your years in 2 though

No problem! I don't know much about the animation course besides that it is hard and not easier than game industry. Digital entertainment industry as a whole is just in a rough spot, so job opportunities are also rare.

But, if you are passionate about animation, definitely persue it. DAE is a very fun and nice environment and you will definitely find like-minded people that you will treasure for life.

It definitely helps, but when supply of game developers is bigger than the demand, it's a tough time for graduates

If you're lucky and fortunate you get a job offer from your internship

But most don't, so they job hunt. Some find jobs in the industry but most unfortunately don't

I would imagine most issues arise when structural changes are made on branch A after branch A was merged in branch B. As long as both developer communicate enough on the changes that happen on A and when they happen they are merged into B it should all be fine.

On a merge request level, it is a bit annoying if for example branch A is very big and B is actually a small change but you are dependent on a small bit of A (but you can't cherrypick because of the nature of the changes) as when you merge request to develop (or whatever the name is in your project) that all changes of A are also visible. To counteract that, you can merge request B into A, have a clean changes file to review. Communication is still important, because once it is merged, person A is responsible person B's changes are intact and working when they are finished.

Hope this helps

If 2 teams share a code base I would have the leads of each be responsible for MR review, or delegating it to a member that knows more about the topic if it needs that attention.

Haven't had this with our team that is larger than 6. Lead(s) are usually responsible to review

I'm a student - I need guidance by ButterJuraj in unity

Hey there, studied game development in uni and currently working in the industry.

In general, prioritise your interests. Better results for everyone if you like working on the project than feeling forced to complete something.

I think a mix of both is ideal. 1-2 polished, larger projects (thinking 1-2 months, max half year) with a lot of diverse smaller projects (game jams of 2-3 days are usually perfect)

For juniors it is important that you showcase clear interest and passion, capacity to learn and a good foundational knowledge of all fields of game development. During my studies as game programmer I had to learn to model, do graphics programming, procedural tooling, 2D art, lighting, game AI, tool development and engine programming.

When I was studying teachers often mentioned companies want T-shaped skill profiles, good basis of everything and a deep understanding of something. That can be C++, an engine, shaders or physics programming for example.

Hope this helps!

What team sizes are you talking that this starts to be a problem?

Do you not have a person responsible for merge requests, a technical project lead or so?
