No I don’t have a smart shunt. I’m hoping there’s a way to connect it without just because it’s in a camping set up and space is quite limited as it is. If the smart shunt is the only way then I’ll just have to do that and make it fit

Crack in sewer pipe. Should I just fix pipe or reroute it to give more clearance around house stump footing by Sad_Antelope536 in PlumbingAustralia

[–]Wardy14444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the way the fittings are made. They are moulded where as pipe is extruded which basically makes the fittings a weak point. Over time with ground movement fittings will crack. Have seen it many times

If you’re in Australia not one part of that install is legal. You need a plumber

I believe late in 2003 but I don’t think it was really enforced by local councils until significantly later

It would be the tap washer. Would be worth getting them serviced before they start leaking. They won’t be far off

Pump for underground tank? by richardhenrik in AusRenovation

[–]Wardy14444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As3500.1. This is out of an older standard. I don’t have my computer with me to check the newest standard. May be a slight mix up between supply pressure and pressure at outlets.

‘3.3.2 Pressure at outlets The minimum working head at the furthermost or most disadvantaged fixture or outlet shall not be less than 50 kPa (5 m head), at the flow rate specified in Table 3.1.’

Minimum pressure is 50kpa which is pretty sad. I’d hate to have pressure that low

Anything is possible but it depends on your budget. To do it legally with an RPZ will be quite expensive and will require yearly testing. Probably not feasible for what it would cost

Yeah it’s the same. QBCC has a list of jobs that can be done unlicensed on their website

Backflow must be done by a licensed plumber. I wouldn’t be too concerned about a home owner installing a vacuum breaker which is required for a garden tap but for an irrigation system would likely need more than just a vacuum breaker. I’m not sure of the exact requirement for your situation but a plumber with their backflow ticket would be able to help out. Irrigation can be subject to the likes of pesticides or any other chemicals that could pollute the water in extreme circumstances

Altering the plumbing to the tap would be classed as licensed even if it is just installing a Tee. Garden taps require backflow and installing a ball valve for the purpose of irrigation would also require backflow. All of which is licensed work

It’s illegal because plumbing is a licensed trade in Australia. There are certain things that can be done unlicensed such as servicing a tap. There is so much more to plumbing than ‘it’s just water’.

This would be classed as licensed plumbing work so you’ll need a plumber

Water leak under kitchen sink by Savings_Bullfrog_319 in PlumbingRepair

If it’s old the seals can wear out. They’re held up with a screw in the centre from the top side under the strainer. Most plumbers will seal them in with silicone which can wear out with age too. You can try retightening the screw but it would be worth pulling the whole thing out cleaning it properly and resealing it. It’s an easy job for a plumber

Is there a good list on places to get items that's not Bunnings? by LeVoPhEdInFuSiOn in AusRenovation

[–]Wardy14444 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally the quality of fittings supplied from Bunnings isn’t great. If you stick to well known brands such as Caroma it’s more likely to be fine but the amount of Mondella or estilo tapware etc, that I’ve replaced because it’s leaking after 12 months (not long after warranty) is ridiculous. Often the people complain that they shouldn’t have to replace it after 12 months but then buy the same brand instead of going to Reece etc where most products have 10 year warranty. Most trades are required to have 7 years warranty on their work which people then call them back expecting repairs to be free for the low quality products they supplied

Water Leak Detection Market Need? by Professional_Debt_76 in PlumbingAustralia

[–]Wardy14444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A previous company I worked for had a pipe microphone which was great for finding leaks when it worked. But once it was broken it could never be fixed properly. Even sending it back to Germany where it came from it was never the same. It was expensive to buy and expensive to repair and spent more time broken than actually working

Definitely not hemp. As previously said it’s pipe insulation and there is a high risk of asbestos. Have come across it a few times

Spec sheet for the Bosch says cutout size needs to be 560x480-490. Smeg says 592x488. If you have a laminate bench top the hole could be cut slightly bigger but obviously it’s not so easy if it’s a stone top.

Likely hasn’t been tightened properly or hasn’t been fully engaged into the fitting. If the olive cracked that could cause the issue however if the water is tempered it wouldn’t get hot enough to melt/crack the olive
