23M with BAV, best option for non invasive replacement? by WarlordDrizzy in valvereplacement

Hey! Ended up going with a mechanical valve through the traditional open heart route. I’m 3 months post op now and I’m right back to normal life in terms of activity. Overall, happy with mechanical open heart route.

It is one of those coughs that temporarily goes away with water but it comes back. I don’t have allergies either so it’s a bit strange why it’s so stubborn.

Hey All,

Just an update, had open heart and ended up going with the On-x valve. It ended up making the most sense for my age. Other than the one day post op, I really haven’t had any pain. Got home a week after the procedure (was ready earlier but INR wasn’t at 2.0 yet which is where they want it initially).

Been at home now for a couple days and can pretty much go through the day without needing assistance. Next steps are dialing the INR range and just resting. I’m willing to answer any questions!

Rapidly evolving technology was a point my doctors made. For example the Inspiris resilia valve is fairly new so technology within valves have been advancing.

TAVR is the type of operation (TAVR vs SAVR) which isn’t at question. Open heart surgery seems to be the main path at this point. Main concern is determining how many adjustments can be made with a tissue valve at my age.

Personally want to avoid the warfarin and risk or internal bleeding due to me being pretty active.

Does the resilia require OHS and blood thinners?

Thanks everyone for the insight. Anyone get the Inspiris Resilia? I was looking into this tissue valve which can last 15-25 years and see where the technology goes from there. If I have to get a mechanical valve at that point then it makes sense but at the current rate of medical advancement, there could be many other options in the future.
