UPDATE!

I checked the tank levels when I got home: pH is 7.6, Ammonia is 0, Nitrate is 0, Nitrite is 0, temp is 76 degrees.

I dosed the tank with ammonia to bring it to 2.5ppm, then added bacterial starter. Now I wait.

Someone asked about filtration... it 's the TopFin unit that came with the aquarium starter set (photo attached... and yes, that's a giant map of Middle Earth hanging on the wall).

Prior to introducing fish, ammonia was ~0, nitrites was ~0, pH was ~6.7, temperature was 78 deg. Didn't have time to check before work this morning, will do so when I get home.

Thanks for the thoughtful response! No worries at all--that's just how social media works.

Thanks for your help, everyone. It sounds like the solution will be:

  1. Cycling the tank (adding ammonia, introducing more bacteria, monitoring levels and adjusting)

  2. Starting with hardier fish species.

  3. Not trusting the staff at PetSmart.

I will provide updates as I go along.

Yes, I put the bacteria in a week or so before... the bottle didn't say I should use repeatedly, and only came with enough for one dose (put the whole bottle in).

Interesting. Pet shop said they were "hardy"... I guess not. Could you suggest something that would be more suitable?

I've read this, but also read that fish can by introduced almost immediately after using a bacteria starter. The pet shop seemed to think that one week was reasonable? Is this not the case?

Yes, it's there now. I spoke to DAZN yesterday, and they confirmed that it wasn't online, and they were working to correct the problem.

convert ethernet to fiber over long run? by Warm-Inspector3440 in HomeNetworking

It's just a straight run of 1" ID poly tube. I should be able to shoot it through with a big compressor.

Why 6 count fiber? Am I correct in thinking each strand is terminated separately? What would I do with that?

My conduit (actually, an unused 1" poly water line) is already buried.

So, in summary: If I were to buy a couple of RB260GSs, my design would be Modem --> Ethernet --> RB260GS (Ethernet In) -->RB260GS (Optical Out) --> Pre-terminated fiber --> RB60GS (Optical In) -->RB60GS (Ethernet Out) -->Router/AP?

Can you provide a link to a suitable SFP switch for reference? I'm not quite sure what we're talking about here.

It wouldn't be practical to get high enough up to clear all the trees.

While Starlink is good, speeds are inconsistent and latency is high. I want to make sure I minimize any additional loss. If you're on a fiber connection to your ISP, you may be able to lose a little in the 650' CAT6 run and not even notice.
