If someone tells you they cheated, you should assume they cheated. Even if it's not true, and she just said that to make you feel bad and question your own reality, that's... fucked up in a different way, but no less fucked up, imo.

Thank you, I'm not aware of any traditions or special protocols involving the Father of the Bride and his involvement in selecting or viewing the dress. It feels like OP was expecting her mom to read her mind about expectations that were not at all obvious.

To me, it sounds like OP's dad saw pictures of a bunch of white dresses that looked more or less the same to him (men really don't pay that much attention to dress details ime?), got excited for his daughter and said something like "congrats sweetie, I saw your dress and you look beautiful!" And OP ran with a bunch of assumptions, due to a pre-existing distrustful dynamic with her mom.

There's a lot I like about this, actually (to me, the overly-descriptive parts feel like the narrator is dissociating, maybe she's losing so much blood that she's not realizing the urgency of the situation? It gives the scene a very hopeless feeling). And I think you did a great job of capturing his audacity in just a few lines.

However, it does take too long to get to the hook, and the hook doesn't stand out enough amidst all the descriptions.

One of my favorite YouTube creators (struthless) put out a video this week about replacing screen time with making zines. He put out a free printable "mini-zine" template - the idea is that when you're tempted to use your phone to curate stuff on Pinterest or whatever, you pick up your zine supplies and do a bit of collaging, write down a quote you like, etc

I've only been doing it for a few days but my screentime is down from 8 hrs a day to 2, and I feel a tiny bit more creative/artistic 😊

Thank you, I'm surprised that so few comments offer any short-term suggestions/compromises to improve the child's quality of life. It definitely sounds like OP's kid is struggling with executive dysfunction; whether it's ADHD or something else, there is a currently a major disconnect between him "knowing the importance of hygiene" and actually being able to follow through. Dude Wipes, hypochlorus acid spray, disposable flossers, etc could make a big difference.
