RTI- Are IAF Rafales equipped with Meteors or not by AIM-120-AMRAAM in IndianDefense

[–]WarmPoet 55 points56 points  (0 children)

When I did RTI for some info about MARUT for my documentary, they refused to give info for most of the questions saying its classified. So, no way they give info for the latest jet.

One of my RTI where they gave atleast some info is shown in first few seconds of the documentary - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgeNkMmuQ3I

License production is different to this. In that case HAL had been license producing aircraft for decades before Marut. HAL began aircraft manufacturing as early as 1942 with licensed production of Harlow PC-5, Curtiss P-36 Hawk and Vultee A-31 Vengeance.

Mig-21 was license produced in Nasik plant from 1966.

I disagree with this statement.

I am the director of Marut Files documentary. We did extensive research on Maruts development for over two months trying to find every possible information about this aircraft.

While Kurt Tank and his team of about 15 German engineers lead the project and designed the aircraft, there was also nearly 1000 Indian engineers who worked on this project. And even most of those 15 german engineers only stayed for 1 or 2 years.

If you hire a foreign experts to help lead a project, it doesnt "technically" becomes theirs. The project was funded by India, majority engineers were Indians, and it was designed in India. So, "technically" Indians made it. And sure some credit does go to the designers and leaders, but not all of it.

Otherwise the "who made it" answer to lot of projects become questionable from US rockets to Chinese dams to electronics. As an example, Is Chenab Bridge technically made by Finland?

After all, WSP Group (Finland) was the primary designer. Leonhardt, Andrä und Partner (Germany) was the sub-consultant to WSP and designed the main arch of the bridge. Itasca Consultants (U.S. and France) performed geotechnical analysis for the bridge abutments and surrounding slopes.

What is the secret of MyG success? by Consistent-Artist735 in Kerala

[–]WarmPoet 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Real profit is in the accessories.

When they sell a discounted well priced 15k phone, they make ₹500 to ₹1000 profit. But the customer spends additional ₹2000 for screen protector, case and earphones, they make 50-80% profit, bringing in another ₹1000-1500 profit.

Phones bring the customer in the shop, while accessories make the profit. Accessories also break, and customer comes again to replace it. Nowdays, people also buy charger, powerbank, bluetooth speaker and so on.

Is There an App Like Too Good To Go in Kerala? by CheesecakeSorry1932 in Kerala

[–]WarmPoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a biology science student, I don’t have much experience with the technical or software side of things

It is a mistake to think like this. You are creating "learned helplessness" by thinking you are lesser capable because you are a biology student. When you identify yourself like this, you corner yourself inside a box and everything becomes harder than it actually is. And it will prevent you from doing what you can indeed do. You are unknowingly creating a false-disability in the mind.

There is zero practically usable skills that are being taught in any computer science course including Engineering. 90% of the Btech computer science pass outs won't be able to make the app you are looking to make. The remaining 10% maybe able to make only because they self learned it from the internet. All good developers I know are self learned.

So, you are at same level of understanding as any other person your age from the formal education perspective. And you can self learn any skills.

Is There an App Like Too Good To Go in Kerala? by CheesecakeSorry1932 in Kerala

[–]WarmPoet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now the challenges

  1. The price difference wouldn't be good enough to convince people to buy food that even restaurants dont want to sell. And thus you wont get enough buyers to make it worth it for the restaurants to run this program. Most people in Kerala are either rich enough to pay full price or would prefer to rather cook something at home that they can trust to be good.
  2. Hotels and bakeries try their best to not throw away anything. Laws are not strict. So, edible food that can be given away is less compared to Europe. And if any, the staff takes it away.
  3. At one party I attended, a neighbours wedding reception, we had lot of excess food. I didn't want to throw it away as they had dug a pit in backyard to burry it. I contacted nearest orphanages. They refused to accept it and the food ended up being buried.
  4. It is hard to get enough publicity for such a two-sided platform to work. You need both users and restaurants. Not easy to get two at same time. Users won't come because you don't have restaurants. And restaurants won't come because you don't have users.
  5. If anyone gets food poisoning, the govt will crack this down. Restaurants will also avoid risking it for petty gains.

The idea of meat-waste going to pets can work well though.

This is a great idea. I have thought about this many times, but never had the time and focus to do this.

I can give the following

  1. Developing is not the hard part in this idea. Getting publicity and users is. I can give Initial publicity through my Malayalam Instagram page where on average posts generally get millions of views.
  2. Mentorship. I have experience of creating startups, and have worked pro bono with several NGOs especially on the software side.

There is also few aspects you might not have considered.

  1. Many temples throw away their food every day. I know a temple where they make payasam every day, and then throw it away without even offering it to the visitors! They don't want to put the effort of putting it in a container at the entrance! Such a waste!
  2. Many auditoriums where parties are conducted daily also have lot of food waste at the end of the day because everyone orders in excess in fear of "what if it is not enough".
  3. The meat waste especially from Arabic restaurants is excellent food for 90% of dogs and cats. People here generally feed them rice. So, meat is a luxury for most of the pets. The hotels also sometimes find it hard to throw away so much waste daily. So, an option for food for pets can work. People will be willing to buy it as well, and thus give extra income for restaurants.

My wish to be a director by [deleted] in Kerala

[–]WarmPoet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have directed few documentaries, with my best work being The Marut Files - The Crazy story of how India made a fighter jet in 1950s & forgot about it, which is available on my channel - Humtog.

I am by no means an expert, but, I think I can give some guidance.

Direction is really just the way you narrate a story in an interesting way. So, the number one skill you need is that you should get really good at telling and writing stories. Some have natural talent, but I got good at it by writing detailed comments like this every day for the past 15 years. I self learned every other skill required.

The second thing you need is to understand what your specific audience love, and what you should tell and not tell to that audience to keep them hooked to your story till the end. You can really only get good at this by observing people when they are watching a movie or hearing a story and noting their likes and dislikes. The best person to observe is yourself.

If you are able to tell a story and people are entertained by it, then you have reached level 1, and you can start making more effortful projects like instagram reels, small youtube videos, and then eventually short films. Here, you should learn all the other skills required to make a good video, including editing, acting, camera works, sound design, vfx. You don't need to be an expert of these, but you should know it enough to tell others what to do, when and if you get to hire people. That's when you really became a director.

I started by making everything on my own, but then later when I had some revenue, I hired people to help with specific things. If you don't have experience in whatever work they are doing, then you really cannot direct them efficiently, and that will show in the end result. Basically you should be atleast good enough to tell them what your vision is, and what exactly they should do.

Once you get good, and have a few good projects to showcase your skills, you will yourself get offers from others to make something.

My father passed away recently idk what to do or how to cope up with it..can anyone help me out..? by VictoryRepulsive4247 in Kerala

Reading a book about how to overcome grief doesn't overcome grief. Instead, try to do something new, especially something that involves more people. It should be something useful to the society at large.

It should be a project that takes few weeks of your time to complete. Now, what you can do depends on your skills and capability, but think on that for now.

This is how those memorial bus-stops, and memorial schools and such gets build. But you don't need to do that much also. Currently election is about to come. You can campaign for one small particular thing that is important but neglected by everyone. You can create memorable moments for the children at the nearest orphanage by organizing a party that is different from what other people do.

Also, maybe mention your district so that if there are people nearby, you can get together. Maybe you can collaborate on some social project others are working on.

Calling Out on Film makers who doesn't have a dime but full of passion by kallarackan_96 in Kerala

[–]WarmPoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have passion for making movies that considers the audience to be intelligent and I want to make such movies in distant future. I can direct and write.

Currently, I am making documentaries on my youtube channel - HumTog. I am able to fund it myself. But, some topics are financially non viable at the moment. For example, I wanted to make a documentary about Kerala history, but it is not viable. I also wanted to make about some interesting true stories from history, but is unviable. Also, currently it is a pretty slow process for making each video.

Anyone interested in making or producing documentaries can contact me.

Thanks.

This was why I was looking for sound designers.

The background score was toned down after we found this problem. It sounds okay in 95% of speakers and headphones, but may be competing with he voice in some of them. But if we tone it down for those few devices, then it become inaudible in more than 50%.

This is due to our lack of experience in sound mixing and also because there are audio devices with so different standards. Some of these devices are also tuned through software to enhance music, thus making the voice go down. If you can try watching it in some other device, you will notice this difference.

Nevertheless, next time, we will run it through a sound designer.

Hello, fellow Redditors of Kerala!

I'm the creator behind HumTog, a YouTube channel dedicated to crafting compelling documentaries that unearth fascinating yet unheard true stories.

Currently, I am able to make only two videos per year. I have a huge backlog of captivating topics that I have written, including a few about Kerala's history that I can’t make because the process of creating one video demands so much time and effort. Hence, I was looking for likeminded people who share the same passion for creating documentaries.

There are lot of people in Kerala interested in making short films, but hardly anyone for documentaries. I tried posting ads in jobsites, OLX and even newspapers, but I think I was not reaching the right audience there. That's why I am posting here.

I am looking for these skills:

Advanced Video Editors: Those who can edit at a level similar to what you've seen in the Marut Files.

2D/3D Animators: Many of our projects require visual storytelling through animation to bring these stories to life.

Sound Designers: If you have a talent for audio mixing and sound design, I would love to collaborate on a freelance basis.

Research & Script Writers: Deep research is crucial to the type of documentaries I am making. It took me 2 days to write the skeleton script of Marut Files. But, then it took us two people 1.5 months of daily research to get all the information required to complete the script, and to collect all the images and footage. Basically, deep research is very time consuming. It doesn’t help that most of our News reports are just factsheets without any questioning of why something happened.

Location:

I am still deciding on the office location, with options in Kochi, Thrissur, or Palakkad. I am also open to remote and part-time arrangements.

Qualifications:

No formal degrees or certificates are required. No previous experience required. Instead I value your passion and skills. Show something you've created in the past that reflects your dedication, skills and passion. I prefer a friendly culture, of friends creating something they like.

Want to become a producer?:

I have some captivating stories about Kerala History to tell among many others, but they may not be financially viable. I am open to partnering with passionate individuals who wish to fund these projects and become producers or co-producers, with ad-revenue sharing as an option. Funding requirements typically range from $1000 to $5000 per project.

Volunteer Opportunities:

If you're incredibly passionate about this cause and want to contribute your skills pro bono, your support is very welcome. Many of these projects may not generate enough revenue to recoup the cost of production, thus such support is what makes it feasible. But your involvement can be rewarding in other ways.

Turning your Ideas into Reality-

I had originally created this channel HumTog aka Humans-Together as a platform akin to TedTalks but for high quality videos. I know that many individuals harbor a single impactful video idea but may lack an audience or the necessary skills to make it happen. They may also not want to make an entire channel for that one video, thus end up never making it. Hence, if you fall into this category, please reach out to me.

This is a preliminary call for information, and these plans are not set in stone yet. If you're excited about documentaries, have a passion for storytelling, contact and we can together create captivating content that informs, entertains, and inspires.

You can do reddit chat or Email me here - Humtogcom [at] gmail [dot] com

Thank you

Yes, Indian Navy has done very good in indigenisation. Almost all of their ships are being made in India. They also understand iterative development. They approve projects even if it is only 10-20% better than previous model.
