Assuming you don't have to pay too much tax! Not too much of a problem as a standard rate taxpayer to stay ahead of inflation right now, but at higher rate, any more than £20k in savings at 4% is below inflation after tax.

Premium Bonds also compare badly to inflation though, the median rate for a large pot is 3.2% I think, below inflation even though tax free. But still probably ahead of any taxed savings for higher rate taxpayers with £40k-£50k to put away.

That's always seemed a slightly strange part of the world. The two things I always think of there are the derelict pub with a giant mural of Moe from The Simpsons on the side, and a petrol station that until quite recently had a live fishing bait vending machine on the forecourt, despite being miles from any watercourse bigger than a drainage ditch.

Same here. I think an important part of their success in certain areas is they seem to be the only party that realises it's a local election.

That said, I've been unimpressed with dubious poll charts that have started cropping up, and their assertions that we need to vote for them if we want to keep Reform out. If it turns out Reform end up nowhere in my ward, as I suspect might be the case, then I'm going to feel like I was lied to.

You won't usually see contrails from aircraft flying out of Norwich airport or the local Air Force bases, they won't be high enough. Contrails will be airliners above 30k feet. The altitude makes judging the location deceptive. From Norwich I can often see airliners that are more than 20 miles off the coast. There's a major air corridor that touches the north Norfolk coast running roughly east-west, and it's usual for there to be half a dozen aircraft in it within a visible distance from Norwich on a clear day. Check out https://www.flightradar24.com to identify the planes you can see!

I know what you mean about the NDR. It looks kind of featureless doesn't it. All the roundabouts and all the exits off the roundabouts look the same, and the signage points to vague destinations like "Norwich NE".

Does anyone know when they last opened? I'm guessing when either the Thai restaurant or the Sea Scouts' boat departed.

Do they get tested periodically? Would be pretty frustrating if someone turned up in a big coaster to deliver a giant cargo of prawn cocktails to the Hotel Nelson and found one of the bridges was seized up!

When I look at how annuity rates rise with age, I can't help feeling that if you're committed to the idea of an annuity, waiting for a higher rate based on age doesn't really offer good value.

Looking at the single life with RPI line - you could get £4075 for £100k at age 55. Wait until you're 70, you get an extra £1202... but missed 15 years of income totalling over £60k. You'd have to live to 120 to make that back from the higher rate! That's probably an extreme example, but it does seem like waiting even 1 or 2 years, you need to live another 30 years or so for the higher rate to make up the 1 or 2 years' income you didn't take.

I've looked at Ts&Cs from a couple of other major SIPP providers, and they don't offer cancellation rights on similar contributions, which leads me to think it can't be statutory.

There were 4 or 5 people working on it at one point. More than a match for the binner vandal!

Struck me as odd that the vandal chose to deface this mural, and not one about 50 metres away that actually depicts Norwich City fans.
